Brúnskjóna born 2008 - not bred by us but her sire Sjarmi is, Síða x Þorri from Þúfum. She’s expecting her third foal but she already has a two year old filly after Vonar frá Eystra-Fróðholti and a yearling colt after Biskup from Brúnum - both offsprings are pinto. Brúnskjóna was never trained and probably never will be a riding horse but as she is sired by Sjarmi and we only have one mare after him, we bought her as her owner was going to put her to a blood mare herd. She comes from a herd owned by breeders that don’t train by themselves but sell foals and young ones. So she has very minimal experience of man handling like for example she has never been inside a stable, had a halter or anything. The herd is sturdy and mostly takes care of themselves but know the tractor as the hay bale bringer 🚜 🌾. But even though she’s not used to humans getting that close except once a year when they take the foals, she is still such a sweet curious girl and now has found the courage to come say hi and smell our hands a bit and we can even give her some scratches on a good day! Its very likely that she is “arfhrein skjótt” which means she will always give pinto foals. We’re not sure what the future holds but her being a blood mare was just not an option we thought. We might get a couple of foals from her just to continue the Sjarmi-blood behind her. She is expecting a foal after a half blue eyed buckskin pinto who has now been castrated. I see so much kindness in her eyes.
I got a Snapchat from my boyfriend while he was working and he had a couple calves over eat so he used antitoxin to help them. What made me really happy was that antitoxin was made at the serum company we take our horses to! Which gave me an idea to tell what our horses are used for since I got new followers!
We buy and sell our horses (depending what they want draft or riding horses) continuously to a serum company....The serum company uses the horses to draw blood (kind of like how we give blood to Red Cross to help someone who is in need of blood) then the blood is used to make vaccines! Serum company products include serum antibodies, bacterins, toxiods, bacteria-toxiods, antitoxins, spore & modifies live vaccines. NO HORSE IS HARMED unless there is a transportation problem! We will receive the horses a few month later!
The serum company uses all livestock including equine, bovine, swine, goats & sheep!
Some of the veg is a little worse for wear after all of the rain we’ve gotten (with more on the way tonight!) but the onions are still going strong 💪 Fingers crossed for abundant sunshine in the days to follow, followed by a small amount of rain to save us from having to water, and then lots more sunshine. You know, if I could just control the weather then I think we’d be good. Who’s with me
