REVIEW: Crooked House - Agatha Christie. Eeek! Imagine me clutching this book with both hands and squeezing tight, I absolutely loved it! This is one of those books that reminds me why I love crime thrillers.
A big five out of five. I powered through this in two days if that’s any indication to you of the level of page turning writing! It’s got everything, red herrings GALORE, three generations of an ultra-rich, highly dysfunctional family living under one extremely palatial, yet crooked roof, murder of the patriarch by poisoning, a secret diary and a detective for a fiancé. Everyone has motive and all had the opportunity, so I was guessing until the very last chapter. It’s twisted, it’s dark but punctured with wit and characters that all make a lot of noise on the page. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you don’t trust my review, Agatha Christie said this and Ordeal By Innocence were her favourites! Have you read it Did you guess the ending!
@wydawnictwoliterackie #bunda #fiction #blackcat #cat #instabook #bookblogger #bookblog #bookporn #booknerd #bookfreak #booklover
“OF TEMPESTS AND TEACUPS (TALES OF THE CAPTAIN DUKE #4)” BY REBECCA DIEM ✨ TW: kidnapping/violence/abusive spouse/death of a parent/sexism (if you’ve read this book and can think of any other potential triggers, pls let me know!!) 🚫 3.5/5 stars!! 🌟 THIS SERIES IS OVER 😭 i’m gonna miss these characters so much but i’m so happy i finally read all the books! this was a pretty good conclusion. i’m satisfied with where the characters ended up, but honestly, i just wanted a lil more action and higher stakes. i didn’t feel much urgency, and when it comes to the final book in a series, i’d really like some. but like i said, i was happy with how the characters were written and that’s also important to me. i was ready to just give this a flat 3-star rating but that epilogue made me bump it up a bit 🥰 maybe it’s wishful thinking, but i’d also love a lil novella following my queer babes nessa and marie in their adventures following this conclusion! 😍 overall, this was a really fun series and i fell in love with these characters more than i thought i would. if you’re a fan of feminist, steampunk adventure stories, you need to pick this series up! 📚💖
Tiernan Rivers is another ghost from my WIP, however he doesn't live in Ryder's mum's house like the other ghosts I've introduced. He's one of three spirits that live on the area surrounding.
On the outside he may seem soft and gentle, but Tiernan isn't someone to be messed with. He's fiercy loyal to those he cares about, and won't hesitate to defend them in any way he can.
📚Book Review📚 – My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwite 🔪🔪🔪
Set in Nigeria, amid a corrupt system of law and order, Korede is forever coming to the aid of her beautiful, but kooky, younger sister, Ayoola, who has a bad habit of killing her boyfriends. She always claims self-defense, but she’s never injured, and her conscience never seems to suffer.
This was a read in a day book for me and I loved it. I wish it was longer because I was invested in the characters and didn’t want their story to end. Korede and Ayoola’s characters are both complex and neither is particularly likeable but for some reason this works. I love how Braithwaite explores all the facets of their relationship from loyalty to jealousy to past trauma. Oyinkan Braithwaite is a phenomenal writer. Her humor is outrageous in the best way. I wasn’t quite ready for this to finish when it did.

“SERPENT & DOVE” BY SHELBY MAHURIN ✨ TW: gore/violence/fantastical violence/sexism/misogyny/toxic religion/sex work/graphic sex scene/abusive family/estranged family/self-harm (if you’ve read this book and can think of any other potential triggers, pls let me know!!) 🚫 4.25/5 stars!! 🌟 WOW. this book really surprised me. i read this for the @indigosherwaygardens YA book club (this was our first pick ever!) and I had pretty high expectations going in. at first, i was a lil disappointed as i really wasn’t the first 50 or so pages. but then the story picked up and i was enthralled. i love the main characters (lou has my whole heart), i thought the plot was entertaining, and i enjoyed the writing style! as well, i had heard that there was a sex scene in this, which i was honestly ready to be disappointed by but it was definitely the opposite lmao 🥵😍 the only reasons this isn’t a full 5/5 star rating for me is 1) i thought it reminded me too much of other YA fantasies i’ve read and it wasn’t entirely unique, 2) i had a hard time remembering who all the side characters were, and 3) the overall stakes didn’t feel particularly high (like i was worried about lou but the reason why she may be harmed didn’t really matter to me lmao) 🤷🏻♀️ overall though, this was an awesome read and i am so excited to pick up the sequel when it comes out!! i need more lou in my life 🥰 if you’re into YA fantasy and the whole enemies to lovers or forbidden love trope, i definitely recommend you give this a shot. 📚💖
