I just wanna carve a pumpkin right now. Get my hands all gooey and roast some pumpkin seeds. But it's still a bit too early for that. Maybe I'll just buy myself a pie pumpkin and bake some bread or something.
It was too bright to open my eyes! Haha! But who cares, because look at those dahlias! This amazing bucket o' blooms and a few others are bound to delight our flower CSA members this week. And I've got even more buckets headed toward farmers markets this weekend! Come on out to @stjosephfarmersmarket and Fulton Farmers Market @neighborhoodrootsmn and get your flower-fill, along with some amazing, colorful cauliflower, salad mix, cabbage, radishes, broccoli, and so much more!
This week has felt abundant, spacious, and joyful, and we've gotten a ton of work done! After some big transitions on our crew recently, we had a couple weeks of adjustment, but now we've found our groove and are rocking out! It's just so clear on this side of that hard and shitty situation, the right team is everything, and makes anything possible, and the wrong team can take you down. Many thanks to @cuir_queer and @samantha.villella for being thoughtful, fluid, and dynamic people--y'all, Sam can harvest like a thousand basil bunches in twenty minutes, in the rain, and with a smile. And Dylan can sweet-talk ornery pigs three times their size into doing just what they want them to do. These two are amazing! It's a joy to work with you both. 🌱
Plus a little shot of my home team. ❤️

Merel took a flower shower today. Maybe there are more enthusiasts for a flower wash 🛁🌸🌺
Today she’s Burgundy! Diva will be setting off blush pinks and whites for this Saturday’s Homegrown Wedding.
We farmers have this disease where we are eternally optimistic and really don’t let much get to us. Experts at pivoting, problem solving. Still toiling away and tossing our expectations into the elusive ‘next year’
It’s served me quite well in wedding floral land too. If you aren’t flexible, you are gonna have a bad time.
The only way to improve is through experience and experiments....lots, and lots of experiments 🧪 🧫 🧬
Next year that will bring us better dahlias, more May/June flowers, caterpillar tunnel crops (I’m still afraid of high tunnels), lavender farming, sweet pea trialing, delphinium forestry and more Remember when I said we are optimistic
We’re busy hauling out literally every bloom we can from the field today and tomorrow for @thepurplepaintedlady festival! Come check it out this weekend (the 21st and 22nd) in Palmyra on Yellow Mills Road!
Stop by Greene Street Market tonight from 4-8pm for a fresh bouquet! We will have dog treats & honey as well! ✨🐾🐝 #brosemerfarm .
Don’t forget to grab your “A Walk Through The Dahlias” invitation when you pop by! 💚
We have some giant Cosmos in the garden this year! Glad we get to enjoy them before frost!
Another DIY bucket headed out the door. The first frost is coming soon, if you want some beautiful Fall flowers it’s now or never... pictured here: zinnias, celosia, love-in-the-mist, feverfew, scabiosa and foxtail millet.
Delivery this week for an all white wedding. Can’t wait to see the magic they make with these beauties!
Location: northwest Ohio, zone 6A
Flowers: cosmos snow puff, zinnia Oklahoma white, scabiosa snow maiden, and gomphrena pastel mix.
This time last year, I had just started my search for land!
Early on in my search I found a piece of land that I was in love with. It had a house, barn, and a massive corn field. The house was adorable on the outside, and would’ve been a perfect place for me to start plants in the winter.
It was listed wrong on the MLS. You could either purchase the land, the house and barn, or the total package. I could’ve picked one or the other, but I could afford them both. So that was a no go.
After that, I at least drove by (if not walked) every available piece of farmland 2 acres or more (in my budget) within an hour of me. I searched the MLS daily for cleared land, and found nothing!
I remember feeling discouraged the day I found my property. I had overlooked it because the picture was of the woods, assuming it was 15 wooded acres. I didn’t have high hopes for it, everything that looked promising online turned out not to quite be what I was looking for.
I didn’t realize until I got close that this property was on the same street as another farmer friend of mine.
I immediately loved it when I pulled up, and couldn’t believe I over looked it. Surely there must be something wrong with it, because it had been for sale for almost a year. Farmland goes quickly here!
Sure enough, there was a quirk. The front half of the property won’t perk. Meaning a septic tank can’t be put there. There’s a very nice buildable spot in the back that will perk, but might need a mound system. Which would be an extra cost for someone looking to build a home. It’s not big enough for a corn or soybean farmer.
A little over half the property is wooded, but the cleared space was already more than I needed. The perk issue isn’t a big deal, I can make due with a porta potty until building a nicer building in the back with an actual toilet is in the budget.
If things had worked out at the first farm, I wouldn’t have the help and support that I do where I’am now. What felt like a blow, actually turned into a blessing. I can’t imagine being any where else!

Look at these colours! Had a great morning yesterday with new friends! ♥️ @cloverhillflowers
Pic of the scabiosa from last season as the bed is not as photogenic the same time this year due to the deluge of rain we’ve had. We’re going to end the season with 2 more weddings the first weekend of October and my fingers are crossed we get a bit more sunshine between then and now. I also likely broke my little toe yesterday so I’m sitting here contemplating whether or not to even go into urgent care as I’d like to avoid expensive deductibles for something they probably can’t do much about. .

The flower field is teeming with pollinators! I am happy to see so many monarchs this year. I’ve seen their whole lifecycle - I am growing a variety of milkweed this year, and have left the majority of it for habitat/food for the monarchs. It’s wonderful that they have such a safe place to start their life.
Do you sell succulents in your shop These ultra-popular succas will have you seeing green 💚
We are taking a couple weeks off between the Summer and Fall CSA seasons to rest, spend time with family, and plan for the rest of the year (including our upcoming open house at the farm 🌼). But we just wanted to say thank you to all of our subscribers, brides, and other supporters of the farm. We love getting to share our flowers with you 💐💐💐
