The Canadian Food Guide has been updated! 🇨🇦🥗 I see 0 dairy products on this example and I’m loving it. After all the research I have done on nutrition and the human body, I am happy with this new guide. Its a step in the right direction! 
I have been fully vegan for almost 5 months now (wooh) and I am so proud of myself for the decision I have made for my health, my well being, the environment and the animals.

I stand by what I believe in and I’ve discovered a whole new world when I went vegan. I’m cooking more, I’m experimenting with delicious foods and am inspiring many people. I’m medication FREE and my gastrointestinal disease is, to not make claims and jinx myself, hibernating. I’m proud to see our Canadian Food Guide evolve, as we all do. The way we eat has always been a big part of our evolution. Times are changing and I’m proud to see our guidelines change as well, with us, for us. Even the last note about marketing influencing our choices makes me want to send Health Canada a bouquet of broccoli and give them a big bear hug. 🥦🐻 Nothing is perfect. Everybody and every body is different. There is still a lot of progress to be done and a lot of exceptions, I know.

But hey, no one is gonna make it out of this place alive, so let’s at least take the time we have here now to come together for the greater good of our kind, our planet, our animal friends and for the generations to come. Your health is your wealth.

The Canadian Food Guide has been updated! 🇨🇦🥗 I see 0 dairy products on this example and I’m loving it. The NEW Canada Food Guide is now available!

Overall, I am quite impressed! There are a few things that stand out to me and I have concerns about but as a whole it is a great improvement.

Here are a few things I don't agree with: ~Recommending low fat yogurt as a protein source - staying away from low-fat foods is super important as there are often added ingredients including sugar and other additives that do no good for your health.
~Fortified foods - often fortified foods have nutrients added back in (such as vitamin D or A for example), however, a food in its original state would have these nutrients. You will often see this in low-fat foods. Also, the quality of the nutrients getting added back in (fortified) may not be in their natural state causing issues with absorption. If we eat whole foods and variety we will get the nutrients we need!
~Margarine should not have a place on the food guide and should not be recommended as a heathy fat.
~There are some healthy oils recommended but we need to focus on quality and how processed they have been before consuming them. Corn, soy and canola are heavily processed foods.

Okay that may seem like a lot of dislikes, but there are many good things I like about the new food guide. Here they are: ~Focus on protein from plants
~Make water your beverage choice (replace sugary drinks with water)
~Eat plant-based foods regularly
~Bringing awareness to plant based foods
~Eat less sugar
~Eat a variety of foods ~Dairy is no longer a food group
~Beware of food marketing!
~Limit highly processed foods
~Recommendations for grains include gluten-free
~Read food labels so you can make healthier choices - educate yourself
~Mindful tips to help you create healthy eating habits
~Creating healthy habits around eating and cooking.

At the end of the day a diet full of VARIETY and WHOLE FOODS as well as listening to your body and develop healthy eating habits will lead you to great health! And remember this is just a guide. Everyone has their own dietary requirements. 🙂

There are so many more changes that need to happen in order for us to be free to choose our course of health, our course of healing. From insurance coverage and what it will and won’t cover to how our kids are being educated, to government choices based on the government in power and theirs party lines. 🌿

As you can see, they’ve completely done away with “milk and alternatives” AND “meat and alternatives” and instead have a “eat protein foods”. people should know they can acquire more bioavailable amino acids from plants than from meat, dairy, etc.... we’re not outta the woods yet, but this is a great step towards a greener way of living 🌱💚🥬

Sweet potato is grated and combined with coconut, pumpkin, cinnamon, and other seasonings, then wrapped in a banana leaf and boiled in water. The result is a subtly sweet and dense tamale-like dumpling, a delicious contrast to salt fish, a common partner on the plate, seen here. The new Canada's Food Guide was released yesterday and they made some pretty great changes!🎉 The guide focuses on 4 main food groups: 🌽Veggies
🍓Fruit
🍞Whole grains
🌱Plant based protein sources

With the drink of choice being... you guessed it! Water!🚿 As you can see the meat 🍗and dairy🍶 categories are gone!

It also emphasizes the importance of preparing meals from whole foods and avoiding processed food and beverages that often have significant amounts of sugar and sodium added to them. 
The updated guide discusses the importance of "food skills". This not only includes cooking and food preparation skills, but also the need for Canadians to read AND understand food labels so that we are fully informed about what we are putting into our bodies!

Zhajiang Noodle originated from Lu Kitchen (or Shandong Kitchen) and was/is very popular in Northern China.

The three treasure of Zhajiang Noodle are 炸酱 (the soybean paste), 菜码 (vegetable topping) and 手工面条 (hand made noodle). In summer the noodle will be blanched with cold water and be drained. We call it 过水面 (noodles wad across water). In winter we usually eat hot noodles and it’s called 锅挑儿 (directly from the pot). For vegetables the choices are different and seasonal: cucumber, Chineses Toon, soy bean sprout, garlic, green soy bean, and radish sprout etc.. The soybean paste can be fried with diced pork and egg, or for vegans with aubergine and fried Tofu. It’s characterized with its rich but not greasy taste.

This tiny and cozy bistro 方砖场69号炸酱面 (Fangzhuanchang No. 69 Zhajiang Noodle) is located in the old town of Beijing. They only serve one dish: Zhajiang Noodle. That is pretty simple then for diner having Zhajiang Noodle for the first time: no other choices. Comparing to many other restaurants where the soybean paste is fried with minced pork, the paste here is with diced pork and tastes definitely better. Vegetables are cucumber, Chinese cabbage, radish and soy bean. The hand made noodle tastes especially strained and chewy.

There are always new theories as peddled by those with a cookbook and program to sell. But in terms of actual scientific consensus this seems to closely align with it. Mainly plant based. I find it insteresting that they have abandoned serving sizes in favour of a ratio. 
Way to go Canada Health!!! Here's hoping this positively impacts the waistlines and life spans of the nation.
Specifically it makes it easier to enforce a water only policy in my classroom.

YES! Canada's Food Guide has been given a long overdue overhaul. The guide recommends eating more plant foods such as a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds. It recommends making water your drink of choice and even recommends cooking more meals at home and eating mindfully. Wow. Great improvements. Drizzle on a daily dose of healthy fats and the guide is looking much more balanced than the old rainbow version. It’s a step in the right direction.

Cheating my way through life- I just assemble the stuff! 😂

This heat and eat range is ideal for moms on the run.

I got these savories from my fav @shameem_ally1 
I place the tray in the fridge overnight. In the am, I heat for bout 40seconds in the air fryer or or microwave. Cool on my cooling rack. Once cooled pack into lunch boxes.

I use to line their boxes with paper towels but the paper towels stink now, and tried almost all brands. My kids love a pretty serviette in their boxes, so these character ones are ideal. I wait for specials and buy a whole lot. I got this PJ Masks pack marked down for R7.99 at PnP.

These little food picks were gifted to my son by @lilyandlace_sa and really make the food look super cute.

The lunch boxes are Sistema. I purchased them at a really good price from Toyzone. Not sure if they still have stock. PNP, Edgars, takealot and Just Plastics stock them.
