I love getting out first thing for a run, the weather and cold is less of a problem than cycling and the scenery can be amazing.
Variation is an important part of my winter training and running helps top up my training load.
I think all endurance cyclists (whatever age) need to be aware of injury risks of highly repetetive training in the long term. Studies have shown that endurance cyclists are at risk of low bone density particularly as training volume increases or under a calorie restricted diet. Running and weight training are good ways to avoid this as well as fuelling properly. Variation in activity can also avoid injury by maintaining fundamental movement skills, balance and coordination.
