Since we are in the midst of our August Abs Challenge and this week is the plank series, I had to share this mini band exercise!! Yes, I’m sure you guys missed my mini band series 🤣

I’m using a medium resistance around my ankles; you can always start with light resistance and work your way up. As always, form is key here. Maintain a neutral spine, elbows shoulder width apart and right under your shoulders, draw in your abs and tighten those glutes. Planks are a great way to engage your entire body. By adding some plank jacks and resistance you challenge your body, which in turn leads to changes in your body creating more lean and toned muscles. • • •

🧲 Dips 🧲

If you’re trying to build some horse shoe action, dips and weighted dips are a great movement for adding mass to the three heads of the tricep.

When I started my fitness journey, I was unable to muster a single body weight dip. If you are like me, it’s important to stay true to the compound lifts - movements like the bench press will build accessory muscles and stabilizer muscles for your chest and triceps. If you’re starting out heavier like I was, by the time you shed fat while strength training, dips will become easy eventually - just keep pushing.

Some other accessory movements I recommend to strengthen your triceps on your Push days, if you can’t do any dips yet are:
- Cable Rope/EZ Bar Pushdowns
- Seated/Overhead Dumbbell Tricep Extensions
- Assisted Dip (with resistance) Machine
- Close grip bench press
- Bench dips
- Eccentric (Negative) Only Dips - Lower yourself slowly and once you reach the bottom of the dip, place your feet on the platform and repeat.

Swipe left for the the form:
- 2nd post = body weight dips
- 3rd post = weighted dips (25 lbs/11.3 kg)

Lean forward slightly (30°) and on the eccentric (downward), make about a 90° angle with your elbow and explode back up. Keep your ankles crossed to stay balanced/tight and avoid too much swinging. Keep your reps slow and controlled.

Dips are also a body weight compound movement, working many major muscle groups and stabilizer muscles. Muscles worked are your triceps (long head, lateral head and medial heads), your anterior delts, and your chest (more so depending on how far forward you lean). Add dips and weighted dips to your push days to put on some serious mass to your triceps. I currently do body weight dips on my first push day (3x max reps) and weighted dips on my 2nd push day of the week (3x 4-8)

i’m home now from a three week beautiful adventure to the arctic with students on ice!
after the arctic expedition, i came home to weigh myself and see i lost 4 pounds; but that was a week ago and since then i made a tad too many unhealthy food choices. my skin and body hate me.
i started my morning today with an arbonne chocolate shake and a teami blend skinny tea; i’m praying today is the day i get my groove back because i’m honestly so done feeling sluggish mentally, physically and emotionally.
