In Linda R. Hirshman’s book ‘Get To Work,’ she lists a strategic plan that outlines the changes that will bring women to positions of power. The final bullet point reads “Get the government you deserve. Stop electing governments that punish women’s work.” To that, I say YES PLEASE. This book was first published in 2006. I first read it in a Women’s Studies class in 2008. It’s definitely a book I need to re-read at this point in my life as I’m figuring out how to best be involved in issues that matter to me, and as I unlearn a lot of the things I’ve been taught as a white cis woman in this society. #dothework
Do the work to unlearn your sexism. Choose to see women as subjects, not as objects. Recognize your sexism, then work everyday to undo it. What that actually looks like can be several things. The language you use to talk about women, the jokes you tell, the way you address women, the weight you give to a man's opinion vs a woman's, the expectations you place on women, your entitlement to a woman's body. I speak to men all the time who do not recognize their position in this sexist society. You do have a position.

I’m tired. I’m not exactly sure why. But it’s probably because I’m letting myself be tired. This is not a matter of physical exhaustion, but mindset. I’m really just #faketired.
As you can see in my stories today, I’ve been chillin’ in my sweat pants. It’s a big no-no for me because it makes me feel unmotivated. My mantra is “Get up. Get dressed. Get to work.” I have done none of those things today.
One of my greatest fears is that I will let me dreams slip away because I am “too tired” to get things done. I large part of me would die if I saw someone else killing it at my dream. Not in a competitive way, but in a “damn. she put in the work, when I was too lazy” way.
So now I’m going to get up, get dressed and get to work (cleaning my house because it’s a disaster). I’m hoping this productivity will spill over to my mindset and help me feel more motivated this afternoon.

Don't be afraid to get creative with your workouts.
This is a great exercise for your lats and triceps. If you want to target more triceps, hinge at your elbow and allow your forearm to be the moment arm. If you want more back focus, hinge at the shoulder, and allow your entire arm to be the moment arm. Either way, make sure your arm is getting behind your back to ensure a full contraction. You'll notice and improvement in your mind-muscle connection with both muscles after this.

Today was a good gym day! PR my back squat by 20 # (thanks @kay_jonesss for helping me!!) and then had a workout with rowing and kettlebells, two movements i’m pretty proficient in. I wanted to be under 17 minutes so that was good! ———
I’ve been writing down all my workouts the last few weeks and I’ve really been enjoying it. My gym has an app to track things but the ritual of taking pen to paper has been nice. It’s been nice to keep track of everything I’ve been doing too. It’s easy to forget the little details.

Try this workout for your next upper body day:
Video 1) Bicep curl to front press: choose a weight that allows you to fully extend your arm on the down movement and curl back up in a fluid motion. Lift weights just above head hight and repeat. 👈🏼 Try 12-15 reps, 4 sets •
Video 2) Narrow grip lat pull down: I like the narrow attachment because it targets the lats but also the rhomboids (small back muscles between the shoulder blades). 👌🏼
Make sure you get a good flex on the down motion and hold for a second or 2. On the up motion, control the weight and keep your shoulders down and away from the ears. (This video would demonstrate this better if it was taken from the back). Try 10-12 reps, 5 sets. •
