Got some more gluten free beer reviews for you! This pilsner from @bellfieldbrewery is nice and crisp but at £5.95 a bottle at @ubiquitous_chip it felt steep!
My friend Alan is a craft beer aficionado and he sent me a review of the Whychwood Gratis gluten free beer - which I’d never come across. He found it in @pieandbrew on Bath St in Glasgow. ‘A lager style golden ale, not outstanding but fairly drinkable. Well worth consideration and a reasonable addition to the GF beers offer.’ Friends who review gluten free beer together, stay together! 👍🏻 More and more gluten free craft beers are popping up which is brilliant, do you think it’s worth paying more for a quality GF beer And how much is too much... #glutenfreeglasgow
Gluten free dumplings.... FOUND! @nonyaglasgow had some brilliant gluten free options on their south East Asian inspired menu, lots of attention paid to explaining the menu to me and swapping ingredients in and out to make the dishes gluten free. We had asparagus and bamboo shoot dumplings; aubergine, boiled egg, fish sauce and herbs; coconut chicken satay; and jungle curry - which was the spiciest thing I’ve eaten in a long long time!! We had delicious creamy mango glutinous rice (in texture only!) for dessert. To be honest at the end of the meal I started to feel quite unwell, and I was worried it was the beginnings of coeliac-ness (what else do you call it!) however it passed and I felt fine the next day. So I am personally putting it down to the spice really not agreeing with me but I thought best mention it to you guys as I know some of you are lots more sensitive than I am. I would still highly recommend and I personally will be returning soon though maybe not getting the curry 😂🔥😂🔥😂🔥 #glutenfreeglasgow
Pies continue.... this time with haggis neeps and tatties and a cheesy crust on top. Finally managed to bake them just right and they tasted good!
Found a pack of @simonhowiebutcher gluten free haggis in my freezer - knew my burns night hoarding back in January would serve me well!
The pastry recipe was tapioca flour, corn flour, plain flour, salt, hot water and ...... lard 😳. It’s quite an important ingredient to give the pastry that chewy texture but if I’m completely honest the thought of eating lard again gives me the boak. I think I am going to have to find a recipe that uses an alternative so... pastry exploring continues still! #glutenfreeglasgow
Anzac biscuits! Thanks so much to @glutenfree_morag for the lovely recipe! So mine did not turn as perfectly as hers did, I didn’t leave enough space between each cookie so they emassed together to make one giant cookie which I then had to cut into squares 😂😂 These guys are the sugar hit you are looking for and taste delish💥 made with granulated sugar, golden syrup, self raising flour, desiccated coconut, butter (I used trex), and gluten free porridge oats. #glutenfreeglasgow
Friday night plans.... slippers included! No night on the tiles for me tonight, I’m staying in to do some cooking and drink some beers. I love Estrella Daura Damm gluten free beer, I picked up this 4-pack in @morrisons
Recently I’ve started to think that Caesar Augustus (my fav GF beer) makes me ill and not in the usual hungover way!! So I’m going to stick with alternatives for a while and see if I can figure it out.
In other news, I’m eating out TWICE tomorrow (yas). I’m trying @elenastapasglasgow for lunch (loads of GF markers on menu) and @nonyaglasgow for dinner (have contacted and they say they cater well for GF). Really excited and will share how it goes.
Who is all eating out and gluten free this weekend Bring it on! #glutenfreeglasgow
Summer in a pot - this rhubarb compote was the easiest thing to make ever and so delicious! It’s now my favourite porridge topping... sweet, tangy and a brilliant colour. I used a Delia recipe which was basically just chopped rhubarb and sugar baked in the oven for 30 mins. See recipe here - https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/collections/delias-summer-collection/rhubarb-compote Another great idea for rhubarb is to infuse your own gin! We did this for our wedding favours a couple of months ago, it was so easy and tasted brilliant! #glutenfreeglasgow
Beaut of a brunch at @lagom.kitchen last weekend! Chorizo and potato hash with avocado crema and all sorts of other delicious bits and bobs. Have to say though, I went especially for their gluten free pancakes - but they are no longer serving these as GF! Absolutely gutted. And they didn’t have any GF bread in either 🙉 (though they usually do). They did however have lots of tempting GF cakes which looked delicious! #glutenfreeglasgow I think @singlendcafe_garnethill is still one of the best shouts for a gluten free brunch in Glasgow, did you know they have a Merchant City branch now @singlendcafe_merchantcity
Found my new favourite shop! So many gluten free finds in here, including a ton of GF flours, GF cereal, GF soba noodles and tamari sauce on tap (so you can bring your own environmentally friendly container!) Think this place is going to come in mega handy - particularly now that whole foods in Giffnock is gone! @locavore_cic is on Victoria Rd in the southside - very close to Queens Park train station. #glutenfreeglasgow
Last night we went to @tgifridaysuk for dinner. I packed so much into yesterday that by the time I went out last night it felt as though morning yoga was days ago!
I thought I'd been to TGI's recently so didn't check the menu before going, rookie mistake! The menus are presented well, I love that there is a lactose page and a gluten page but there is hardly anything on them! If you like steak I guess it's ok but if you're like me and hate steak it's not the best! I got a burger, standard gluten free option when there is nothing else, and the burger itself was amazing but I was really confused why there was no lettuce on it, just tomato 🤷🏻♀️ I just found it all so boring compared to what my husband and son got.
I'm not convinced this is the best place for some free from food however I do think they take preparing free from food very seriously, a manager was brought over to take my order as soon as they knew I needed the separate menu. I just think more options are needed.
Paleo/Keto gingerbread loaf! Sold out completely at my last two pop up shops! Yum! 😍 Tap to order. 👌🏼
