This resonates on so many levels... grad students can be extremely savage and live to make others feel shitty. Why Because they’re insecure and feel the need to project that onto others they see as competition. It’s unfortunate that I’ve experienced this every time I’m in class with a particular person. I am trying to remember that even if they think I’m an idiot and continue to make me the butt of their jokes, the problem is with them, not me. I find the #phd community on Instagram very accepting and inviting and can only hope my current situation changes in time. It’s quite upsetting but I’m doing my best to let it roll off my back and keep moving forward. One (or several) major takeaway: 💥If your a human being you already have the pre-requisites needed to achieve whatever you want. You just have to make the decision to do it. 💥If you *think* you work hard, sacrifice, and suffer for what you want to achieve. Think again. There’s probably more you could do. 💥LEARN how to suffer. Embrace suffering. (This was my biggest take away. There is so much growth to achieve in suffering. Especially if you get to dictate the terms of the suffering.)

So #funfact : I am a huge fan of scheduling non-negotiable self care activities into my already busy schedule. Why If I don’t, I will literally have a nervous breakdown (trust me, I know from personal experience 🙃).
It is really easy to forget about YOU during those busy moments at work, school, and in your personal life. But, you have to make take care of yourself and finding healthy-ish ways to de stress on a consistent basis is 🔑.
So today, I want to share one of my non-negotiables. I go to the gym every single day except for when I have class (Monday/Wednesday). I work the gym around my schedule - which is chaotic at the moment, but I make it work. Sometimes I workout at 5 AM, sometimes I workout out at 6 PM, and sometimes I workout at 8 PM. Either way, it gets done. My time at the gym is my ME TIME. I zone out and forget about every single thing that is on my mind, and just focus on sweating my little booty off and lifting heavy 💩 for 1-2 hours. I also started powerlifting about 2 years ago and I literally fell in love with the sport and is one of the main things that helps me feel amazing even if I was having a crappy day.
I know life can be crazy, but make sure to schedule some consistent YOU time. It can be taking yourself out for lunch/dinner, taking a walk at your favorite park, or getting a mani/pedi. Whatever it is, just make sure it helps you relax, because if it doesn’t it kind of defeats the purpose 😉.
