Getting real about Body Positivity
When I came to college, I gained 50 lbs (I guess I’m too much of an over achiever to settle for the typical “freshman 15”). Why Because I started eating more than one meal a day. And it rocked! I love food.
And the funny thing was, when I was thin in high school, I couldn’t see it. I saw myself as huge, too much in every way. When I gained the weight, I was able to finally find my grounding, learn to take up space and demand respect. And yet, I cringe both when I see the pictures at my lightest and my heaviest.
All this to say: to me, body positivity is about loving yourself at all times. Throughout your life, your body will change. We will all get wrinkles and begin to sag. But even if my body isn’t what I would like it to be, I now promise to nourish it, give it grace and love, not punishment and judgement.
This body is strong. It has carried me through all of my hardest moments. It has been by my side for all of my biggest triumphs. Right now I have pneumonia, and it is working hard to heal and help me feel better.
On this beautiful journey of life, our bodies support us through it all, and for that, they deserve unconditional love.
