For @quantamag: New Exoplanet Search Strategy Claims First Discovery
Definitely want to make our bad bunny, Sir Finn Hopsalot, into an enamel pin! I'm getting quotes from my manufacturer about the other designs I want to release, and then I will release a kickstarter. The kickstarter will have multiple levels to unlock... 👀
@procreate time lapse video of the B&W portion of a recent painting. Created for @quantamag's article about a new exoplanet discovered via radio signals coming from the planet's host star, a dim M dwarf. As with Jupiter & its moon Io, the activity between this planet and its red dwarf star triggers auroras.
Secrets: process videos are addicting, but deceptive, too! They convey this false notion that these things happen perfectly in one go, super fast, and bypass all the time it takes to check references, etc. In reality, I'd drafted a number of thumbnails and compositions, only two of which became final artworks, and only this one was selected to publish.
Also, I'm very rusty with landscapes/spacescapes and Procreate is still super new to me, so I'm fumbling with things like brushes and layer modes that I wouldn't even think twice about in Photoshop. It was supposed to be speedpainting/concept practice but uh... my "speed" painting takes ~ 12 hours. 😂 Some of that WIP is frankly too embarrassing to share, but I'll post some of it later! Anyway, a reminder that "Rome wasn't built in a day", etc. etc.

Lately I have been especially susceptible to these moods of compulsive creation, where I cannot focus on anything else until the thing is properly out of my head. It becomes a really cool flow state when I lean into it, but I admit I’ve had to deny myself of that a few times lately. Sometimes I think this impulse comes from a desire to avoid what I really ought to be doing.
But I don’t really like feeling like I ought to do anything.
