Spent yesterday afternoon lettering my first bus and what a beauty she is. Bertha has got her mojo back and is being restored to how she would have looked way back when in 1990. If you remember Liverpool in the 90s you'll probably remember these knocking about.
I painted four logos onto the bus based on a trace from an original panel. The lettering is pretty crazy and the F is a thing of beauty with strange flicks and oddly placed shadows. From photos it seems that all of the Fareway fleet had slightly different lettering dependant on the bus and presumably the signwriter. Rumours has it that these were painted by an old boy with the surname of Ball and his daughter.
Whilst I was doing the logos another chap from the bus yard was slapping on the numbers and lettering in his own style casual using no lay out, no stick, a tiny little brush and coach paint. Bit rough and ready but for someone just having a go I was pretty impressed.
Obviously I had to have a photo in the driver's seat! 🚌🚌🚌
Thank you to absolutely everyone who made the London Letterheads event 'London Calling' what it was - we had an amazing time and would do it again in an instant (after a sit down and a cup of tea!) These are just a few of our favourite photos - see the rest at the link in our bio or follow the #LondonLetterheads tag which has over 1,000 images now and counting!
This summer, signwriters and lettering professionals from five continents congregated behind the OXO Tower for London’s first ever Letterheads ‘meet’. The event was open to everyone, with a feast of visual treats in the free public areas.

Painted my first canal boat last week. ✨✨ Bacchante✨✨ Emily, the owner, just wanted to keep it minimal with an art Deco style so we kept all the lettering on the front gunwale. I drew out a pattern beforehand but it didn't fit the curvature of the boat so I scratched it on with a stabilo and went for it. Spot the glaring error in the third photo.
Thanks to Keith @urbancabinliving for the photo - I've never seen so many scowling photos of myself.
Anyway Bacchante relaunches today so she'll be back afloat in the Salthouse Dock (the one next to Albert). Happy Wednesday ✨✨
First job of the day.... Supporting the local postman by adding a little number 91 to the fascia of @marayliverpool.
Drawn out directly onto the fascia board to match their branding and painted on with a coat of craftmaster flat then one shot. Jobs a goodun.
Back in the unit for the rest of the day working on some big signs to be fitted this week and next.
Signs. Signs. Signs.
Yes I realise it's only September 1st but Christmas planning is well and truly underway.
