It’s time for the High Falls Holiday Stroll: this Saturday 4 to 7PM with our neighbors and friends @oldeyorkfarm @meadowbloomcoffee at the barn by the 🔥 to warm you... so much going on at each business. A few facts about what happens when you shop local:
1. More of your money will be kept in your local economy
For every $100 you spend at locally owned businesses, $68 will stay in the community. What happens when you spend that same $100 at a national chain Only $43 stays in the community.* 2. You embrace what makes your community unique
You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. So why would you want your community to look that way
3. You create local jobs
Local businesses are better at creating higher-paying jobs for your neighbors. When you shop locally, you help create jobs for teachers, firemen, police officers, and many other essential professions.
4. You help the environment
Buying from a locally owned business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation and less packaging.
5. You nurture community
Local business owners know you, and you know them. Studies have shown that local businesses donate to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.
6. You conserve your tax dollars
Shopping in a local business district means less infrastructure, less maintenance, and more money available to beautify your community. Also, spending locally instead of online ensures that your sales taxes are reinvested where they belong— in your community!
7. You create more choice
Locally owned businesses pick the items and products they sell based on what they know you like and want. Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own individual markets.
8. You took advantage of their expertise
You are their friends and neighbors, and locally owned businesses have a vested interest in knowing how to serve you. They’re passionate about what they do. Why not take advantage of it
9. You invested in entrepreneurship; Creativity and entrepreneurship are what the American economy is founded upon.
Do you become “kitchen Santa” during the holidays We bake all kinds of goodies...(you know the ones we only make once in a blue moon)...and for whatever reason we NEED them ALL at Christmas. It’s like Thanksgiving...we buy a months worth of groceries to eat in one day!😳 I think we all have Christmas food memories!! If you think hard enough you can even smell them. My mom has a great Christmas bread recipe she would usually make on Christmas morning. It has a wonderful glaze on it and tastes like a fabulous pastry. I can smell it now. There’s also the smell of cookies, cakes and pies baking! And then there’s my granny’s peanut butter, chocolate fudge! It’s the absolute best. In fact it’s the only fudge I like! We could just savor in the aroma of all these goodies.
Do you know that you and I are a sweet aroma to God when we share Christ What a wonderful thought! Our fragrance is sweet...because it’s the fragrance of Christ!! I’m sure there are days I plum stink...but my desire is to be a sweet aroma to those around me...just like the smell of my granny’s fudge! Let’s all take a big sniff...if your aroma isn’t very appealing...you can’t just light a candle like we do in our home...we need to spend time with Jesus. The more we are with Him...the more we will smell like Him! So today...smell sweet my friend...smell sweet!!
For we are unto God a sweet fragrance of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish...2 Cor 2:15 #christmas #christmaskitchen #christmasdecor #vintage #ironstone #breadboard #sweetaroma #kitchensanta
When we first looked at our new home, I told Chris I didn’t like it because a tree wouldn’t fit in the dining room. He was brave enough to inform me we shouldn’t buy a house just because of Christmas. What! Needless to say, I figured it out!
We had a ball at @wholelottalovebar on Saturday night. Great bands, awesome people and plenty of Christmas spirit!! It was the perfect way to finish our 2018 gigs.
"What matters - what will matter most to you in the end - is the feeling that the people you love consider home and education to be pleasant, peaceful, and life-giving... Your goal is to string together (like pearls on a necklace) moments where you can say, 'Today was a good day together and we learned something too.' When these accumulate, life starts to hum." --Julie Bogart
