#OnThisDay in 1988, the Music Made in LA Festival of Music Made in L.A. came to a close with a program devoted to the music of Schoenberg and Stravinsky. As Peter Heyworth wrote in the festival’s program book, during the period in which both composers lived in Los Angeles, “L.A. was the home of a greater concentration of musical talent than existed in any other city at that time.” Incredibly, despite both living in Los Angeles for a decade, these two 20th Century masters only met once. #LAPhil100

One of the exciting moments we’ve had along our journey was the opportunity to work with @laphil on some custom graphic t-shirt designs. 🙏 This one, titled as “Noteworthy” came about as an abstract reinterpretation of classical music notation. It’s all about pushing boundaries and creating new points of view - something that the LA Phil does frequently. Garment designed by @veniacollection. Women’s and men’s shirts are now available in store and on laphilstore.com 🎶🎼👁🗨 - - -

Seeing the Walt Disney Concert Hall being transformed by the various visuals was truly mesmerizing. Definitely a creative way to transform a building and allow for some play with architecture, especially at night.

#OnThisDay in 1986, Mario Machado hosted a free Thanksgiving concert at the @musiccenterla, with a program Ernest Fleschmann described as “inspired by the diversity and vitality of the American spirit.” The orchestra, which was conducted by Heiichiro Ohyama, performed Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony, Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story,” Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Two Dance Episodes from Copland’s “Rodeo” for an audience that reflected a broad cross-section of Angelenos. #LAPhil100
#OnThisDay in 1984, a 26-year-old Finnish conductor named Esa-Pekka Salonen made his debut with the LA Phil, leading the orchestra in Mendelssohn’s 4th Symphony, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, and Lutoslawksi’s 3rd Symphony at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Eight years later, he’d be named the tenth Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. #LAPhil100
Christopher Thomas, Walt Disney Concert Hall II, Los Angeles, 2017. .
Last month kicked off the centennial season of the amazing @laphil who are lucky enough to call this architectural masterpiece home. Designed by Frank Gehry in 1991 and opened twelve years later, the concert hall is a defining feature of the downtown Los Angeles arts district. This large format print is one of many city-portraits captured by Thomas during the creation of his series "Lost in LA". On January 19, 2019 we will open an exhibition of Thomas' work as the second show at Galerie XII Los Angeles. @christopherthomas_photography .

The November 28 concert featured a trio of works by Stravinsky, plus Brahms’ First Piano Quartet in G Minor. The conductor was a young up-and-comer making his debut with the LA Phil. His name @mtilsonthomas. #LAPhil100

For the LA Philharmonic projections series, called WDCH Dreams, internationally renowned media artist Refik Anadol dug deep in the digital orchestra archives, nearly 45 TB of data, and applied Google Arts and Culture’s machine intelligence to it, which parsed the files into millions of data points that were then re-categorized and, with the help of deep neural networks, made new connections between LA Phil‘s “memories.” According to Anadol, the process awakes the metaphorical “consciousness“ of Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the result is a “radical visualization of the organizations first century and exploration of synergies between art and technology, and architectural and Institutional memory.” #refikanadol #wdchdreams #laphil100 #losangelespublicart
