Last night I picked up my charcoal pencils for the first time in forever and I’m so glad I did! An audio book I had been listening to pressed the question of what activities in your life have made you lose track of time, you completed without a goal or any expectations and made you feel completely free. Usually we haven’t done these activities since we were kids.
I LOVED to draw gymnasts or ballerinas in mind blowingly beautiful and impressive poses. I was very overweight and not athletic but dreamt of being able to accomplish those beautiful movements. So for the time being, if I couldn’t do it myself I could at least draw it, even if I made up the pose. Also, the amazing things our bodies can accomplish has always been so interesting to me.
So, last night I just scrolled through Instagram and stopped on the first picture that inspired me. Within 60 seconds I found a beautiful photo posted by @acrobuddhas
I didn’t put any pressure on myself to end up with anything that would be good at all. I just wanted to embrace time drawing.
When I was done, 2 hours had flown by and I was in love with the sketch. I was full of energy and felt so freaking good.
I am posting this because I hope to inspire you to tune into that inner kid. Do something because you love it, with zero expectations, goals, purpose, etc. Do it purely because you love it and let time fade away. Kids don’t do something because it can make them money or because they are practicing to become the best. They do it because they enjoy it. Adults many time lose the sense of doing something without purpose, everything has to be working toward a goal.
What if you are the worlds most ok-ish dancer but you LOVE how you feel when you dance. Do you make time to dance to try to get better at it or do it because you feel so alive and liberated during Sometimes doing something you enjoy but with a hard set goal, it sucks the fun out of it.
Maybe consider doing it only for the good feelings, unconcerned with the result
