POST WORKOUT LUNCH

Before I left the house this morning for another kick-ass @renegade_yyc workout (literally, there was a LOT of butt stuff involved) I whipped up this salad for afterwards. With a bunch of running around and Christmas shopping to do, it was very tempting to go out to eat or pick something up on the way home. Instead, this super easy salad and my apple were the perfect combination of carbs, proteins and a little bit of healthy fats after the workout.

- 4 oz lead ground sirloin (cooked with just salt, pepper & Worcester, excess fat drained)
- 3 ish handfuls of salad mix
- 1.5 ish Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tbsp salsa
- Southern style BBQ seasoning

Macros including the apple:

.
I find having cooked proteins ready in the fridge makes it easier to portion out meals and keep me on track with my goals. The holidays are in full swing, which makes it a lot more appealing to slip out of good habits. Try staying organized and on top of your diet by having easy to grab, nutritionally dense and minimally processed foods ready to go. That way you won't feel soooo bad when you have those Christmas cookies or eggnog 🤤🤤🤤.

These have been my go-to snack lately. They taste like a cookie! Unlike my other smoothie recipes, this one does have a bit of added sweetener. But before you pass on by, hear me out!⠀

It contains a tiny bit of blackstrap molasses to give it its signature cookie flavor. Molasses is actually an unrefined sweetener (the byproduct of boiling sugar cane), and contains beneficial minerals including Iron, Manganese, Copper, Magnesium, Calcium and other nutrients. Of course, it is still a form of sugar and by no means a health food, but 1+ teaspoons in a smoothie is A-OK. ⠀

Recipe (1 serv):⠀
1c almond milk (I use unsweetened vanilla)⠀
A handful of ice⠀
1/2 frozen banana⠀
1.5t molasses (blackstrap is best)⠀
1/4t cinnamon⠀
1/2t ground ginger⠀
1/8t cloves⠀
1.5t almond butter ⠀
1 scoop collagen peptides ⠀

Blend everything together and enjoy!

It’s been a bit and a few new friends have showed up in my little corner of the Internet, so I figured it would be a good time as any to introduce myself!

My name is Kay Cee Storley and run things here at KLSRegimen. I am a @precisionnutrition L1 Nutrition coach, CF- L2 certified, 64 kg nationally competitive weightlifter, a wife, a dog mom 🐾, a coffee lover ☕️, and so much more!

I grew up as a competitive athlete, where I eventually was a D1 softball player until I retired in 2014. .
.
Even though I was an athlete, I did NOT have a healthy lifestyle let alone know anything about nutrition. In fact I spent majority of my life over weight, with brief moments of crash dieting here and there. .
.
The worst was when I was in college. I had such a bad relationship with food and myself that I turned to alcohol to help with anxiety and depression issues. I also developed an eating disorder around this time as well. .
.
After a lot of scares and tough experiences, I started to climb out of the hole I created for myself with the support of my loved ones. Thank goodness I have such a stubborn family that would not give up on me. I know most aren’t as fortunate as I. For that I am grateful. .
.
My path eventually lead me to finding my passion for fitness and nutrition. It had such a positive impact on my life that I wanted to help others experience the same thing.
.
.
Thus leading to some of the best people and opportunities of my life. Found the love of my life, earned a certification as a nutrition coach, became a full time weightlifter, and started KLSRegimen.
.
.
I truly love what I do. It brings me joy to help others to live their best life through movement and nutrition. I consider myself very fortunate to have people behind pushing me to chase after my passions. 🤟 guys. .

Puppy chow has always been a FAVE of mine. 😍I remember my sister making it a few times when we were growing up and I would eat it without a second thought. DELISH! ….Aaaaand then my food rules took over and I avoided anything sugary like the plague. 😖 I was trying so hard to achieve that #cleaneating life.

SO HAPPY my food rules ain’t got nothin’ on me no mo’ cause this ☝️Christmas Puppy Chow (AKA Muddy Buddies!) Is. Uh-MAZE!🤩

We had this in a container on the counter for a solid week and I was able to have some when I wanted without feeling out of control and there were also days when I’d legit forget we had it because, well, just didn’t want it. 🤷‍♀️THAT is #foodfreedom. It’s shocking what happens when you get rid of your food rules!🙌🏻

I made this delish, powdered sugar-y goodness with @sunbutter [ #ad]. This is a FAB option because A.) it’s so tasty and B.) You never know if someone at the party you bring this too might have a food allergy.😬

I mean really leading.
.
Willing to make the time, carve the space and be present in the things that you believe in.
.
You’re an awesome person. If you’re following along here I know that you have the desire to change and the drive to do it.
.
But are you doing it?
Are you showing up in the areas that show your loved ones that YOU matter and that YOU love yourself?
.
During pregnancy I vowed to keep my fitness a priority. To straighten out my binge-eating habits and to show up for this wee girl in the ways that would encourage her to always take care of herself.
.
And I think I’ve done a pretty bang up job.
.
Sometimes I feel guilty— there’s no shortage of asking her to stay off the mat while mama is lifting weights and “don’t touch that”s and “Kate, stop it”s.
.
I let her play iPad games while I prep my food if she doesn’t want to help me.
.
I make compromises.
.
But at the end of my efforts is a girl who wants to squat. Who wants to set up her own barbell (a broomstick 🤣) and play in the gym with me instead of be with her toys.
.
Ultimately, a girl who SEES her mama taking care of herself.
.
I know she’s going to be a force to reckon with. She will run, kick, swing and lift her way through this life. 🌎

Are you leading by example 💭 I mean really leading. . Willing to make the time, carve the space and be present in the things that you believe in. . You’re an awesome person. If you’re following along here I know that you have the desire to change and the drive to do it. . But are you doing it Are you showing up in the areas that show your loved ones that YOU matter and that YOU love yourself . During pregnancy I vowed to keep my fitness a priority. To straighten out my binge-eating habits and to show up for this wee girl in the ways that would encourage her to always take care of herself. . And I think I’ve done a pretty bang up job. . Sometimes I feel guilty— there’s no shortage of asking her to stay off the mat while mama is lifting weights and “don’t touch that”s and “Kate, stop it”s. . I let her play iPad games while I prep my food if she doesn’t want to help me. . I make compromises. . But at the end of my efforts is a girl who wants to squat. Who wants to set up her own barbell (a broomstick 🤣) and play in the gym with me instead of be with her toys. . Ultimately, a girl who SEES her mama taking care of herself. . I know she’s going to be a force to reckon with. The other day I shared how important methylation is for a healthy body & that those of us who have the MTHFR gene mutation or who's genes are acting up, don't methylate as well as people without the gene mutation which can lead to a whole host of health conditions⁣

So I wanted to share some tips to help⁣

1️⃣Your mum always told you to “eat your vegetables!” Did you know this simple advice stems from important molecular mechanisms that link your genes, nutrition and health? Green leafy vegetables are one of the richest sources of folate, an essential vitamin that you must get from your diet to stay healthy.⁣
⁣
Common symptoms of folate deficiency include:⁣
⁣
Fatigue⁣
Grey hair⁣
Canker sores⁣
Red, swollen tongue⁣
Anemia⁣
Problems with pregnancy or concieving⁣
⁣
2️⃣ Avoid foods that are fortified with folic acid or supplements containing folic acid. Folate is the active form of folate and so when we have too much folic acid it binds to the receptors where the folate would be and blocks folate entering our cells and doing its job. People with MTHFR gene mutations or who's MTHFR gene may be acting dirty cannot convert folic acid to folate properly and the folic acid can then accumulate in the body & can be hazardous. Check your packets as LOADS of foods are fortified with folic acid⁣

Greens & veggies don't have to be drab....I ♥️ to roast Brussels with curry spices and garlic or to cook cauliflower rice in coconut oil and spices. Try it and see that veg is not boring!! It's what your doing with it!! Think about pasta or rice....without all the sauce and flavours you add... IT'S DRAB!!! Treat your veg like your pasta or rice!! Make it TASTY !

One of my biggest struggles as an entrepreneur is posting consistent content to share with ya'll. And I know I have been majorly slacking in that area. I also know that I have soooo much value to provide you with.⁣

Simple dinner tonight, packed with flavour. @bluedragonuk tofu, pressed for a couple of hours to remove excess moisture, then basted in reduced salt soy sauce, fresh ginger and lime, and a pinch of chilli flakes. Baked on high in the oven with a tin of chickpeas coated in Chinese 5 Spice. SO good. This would make a great midweek meal prep.

📌Simple curry sauce: I heated Trader Joe’s organic coconut milk and added ✔️curry & ✔️turmeric powder to the coconut milk.
🔥I drizzled sriracha on top for some heat 🔥
