How to recover from eating out all weekend

It’s Sunday, and maybe you ate a little too much this weekend 🍦🍕🍔🍩, or had one too many drinks 🍻🥳 Your first thought may be to restrict your food today by waiting until dinner to eat, or skipping out entirely (fasting 🤯), and/or exercising a little longer and more intense than usual.

This doesn’t work *for most people* and overly restricting / over exercising after a day or few days of eating differently (notice how I refuse to use “badly”... all food is fuel 🍩🍤🍔🍓🥬🥓) will only increase the chance that we’ll fall into a food binge.

I can’t even tell you how many times I used to skip breakfast & lunch after a weekend of an over abundance of delicious food (tied with beautiful memories 🤗), or how many times I spent an entire hour on the stair master doing intervals to burn off however many calories I exceeded for my goals. 😅

What did this all lead to?: Uncontrollably stuffing my face with more food later in the day, or eating DOUBLE the next weekend when I was out to eat with friends or my fiancé.

Overly restricting food makes food even more salient, or tempting. Saying “I’m not going to eat a single cookie 🍪 today because I had 5 yesterday” will probably increases the chances you’ll eat another 5 today.

Two suggestions after a weekend of eating “off” or “different”:
1) Return to normal & comfortable eating habits: don’t excessively restrict food but don’t force feed yourself if you truly aren’t hungry either. 
2) Be forgiving: shaming yourself or feeling bad about how you ate can lead to binging as well! Stress/shame + Food can lead to a cascade of chemical reactions in the brain that only make it harder to resist binging on high-calorie/salient food

I've seen these floating around IG for ages but never seen them in store here until last week. These are originally Korean but it appears the Chinese market are also getting on board with these Turtle Chips. Ggobuk in Korean means turtle so hence their name. While I was doing some searching online it appears these chips have won an award for how popular they are.

These are SO light and crunchy, very airy and packed with flavour. There is no mistaking that smell as you open up the bag, a strong corn soup floats quickly to your nose. They're so light to pick up yet they seem rather firm, however, on the bottom of the bag plenty got crushed.

Corn Soup seems to be a flavour that pops up in Asian snacks more and more and I'm totally okay with that 🙃

What I'm completely over is the extra sweetness that these chips come with. Yes, that same sweetness that I usually complain about when trying chips from Asia. I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like it therefore I'm probably going to stop reviewing chips from Asia for a while. Don't worry as there are still ones I need to post. IF they don't include a certain ingredient then I might possibly try them though but for now I've had enough 😓

Recipe 👇⠀
1-2 tablespoon grapeseed oil (or butter)⠀
1 large clove garlic⠀
8-10 oz of your favorite mushrooms (e.g. shiitake, chanterelles, button, oyster)⠀
Salt and pepper, to taste⠀
~1/3 cup Creamy White Bean Spread (recipe below)⠀
4 slices of bread (gluten-free if desired)⠀
For garnish: Chopped parsley⠀
DIRECTIONS⠀
Mince the garlic and slice the mushrooms. If you haven’t already made the white bean spread, go ahead and prepare it. Set aside.⠀
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, scatter the sliced mushrooms into the pan. Stir to coat them in oil, then let them cook for ~4-5 minutes (without disturbing) until golden brown. Add the minced garlic and flip the mushrooms. Let them cook for another ~4-5 minutes until brown on both sides. If they start to look a bit dry, add another tablespoon of oil. Season well with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.⠀
Toast bread and layer on the White Bean Spread. Top with seared mushrooms and garnish with parsley if desired.⠀

White Bean Spread Recipe 👇⠀
1 can of cannellini beans (19 oz / 540 g), strained and rinsed*⠀
1-2 cloves of garlic⠀
2-3 tablespoons lemon juice⠀
2 tablespoons olive oil⠀
1/2 teaspoons lemon zest⠀
1/2 teaspoons salt⠀
For garnish (optional): Lemon zest, Chili flakes, Chopped Italian parsley⠀
⠀
DIRECTIONS⠀
In a food processor, combine beans, garlic, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, olive oil and lemon zest. Pulse until mixture is smooth. Taste and season as desired. Add extra lemon juice (if required) and salt to taste. Re-pulse mixture to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.⠀
Garnish if desired, and serve alongside you favorite fresh vegetables, crackers and / or bread. Store extra dip in an airtight container.⠀

If you haven’t already made the white bean spread, go ahead and prepare it. Set aside.⠀ In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, scatter the sliced mushrooms into the pan. Stir to coat them in oil, then let them cook for ~4-5 minutes (without disturbing) until golden brown. Add the minced garlic and flip the mushrooms. Let them cook for another ~4-5 minutes until brown on both sides. If they start to look a bit dry, add another tablespoon of oil. Season well with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.⠀ Toast bread and layer on the White Bean Spread. Top with seared mushrooms and garnish with parsley if desired.⠀ ⠀ White Bean Spread Recipe 👇⠀ 1 can of cannellini beans (19 oz / 540 g), strained and rinsed*⠀ 1-2 cloves of garlic⠀ 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice⠀ 2 tablespoons olive oil⠀ 1/2 teaspoons lemon zest⠀ 1/2 teaspoons salt⠀ For garnish (optional): Lemon zest, Chili flakes, Chopped Italian parsley⠀ ⠀ DIRECTIONS⠀ In a food processor, combine beans, garlic, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, olive oil and lemon zest. Pulse until mixture is smooth. Taste and season as desired. Add extra lemon juice (if required) and salt to taste. Re-pulse mixture to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.⠀ Garnish if desired, and serve alongside you favorite fresh vegetables, crackers and / or bread.
