Self-care Sunday: The truth of mental illness.
So you guys know how I like to master my emotions, I work on my hang ups, issues and trauma and I work and work until they're resolved. I try to control my emotions and how theyre impacted by people and my environment and I'm getting much better at it but I think it's important to make a massive distinction.
Bad mental health or depression and anxiety that is situational and is resolved when that situation is removed is not the same as being mentally ill. It's not the same as having a flawed brain chemistry.
So I have clinical depression and anxiety. When I have symptoms of this I immediately analyse myself, has something triggered it Is my thought pattern irrational Can I think my way out of this That's great and I'm a pro at this point. But there are days I can't. This isn't a failure or lack of effort it is that I can't because the chemistry in my brain says so.
During this time I do everything right, I show up when I don't feel like it, I smash my gym goals, my food goals and do what I have to do but my creativity (which I need for on here) is zapped, I don't feel like I've got words to say and can be very unproductive.
This isn't because I didn't try hard enough or that I'm not a master of my emotions, it's because I'm mentally ill. Usually it doesn't go away, everything in your life could be going as you dreamed, home life, career, purpose, relationships and it will still randomly rear its head some day.
I believe in the law of attraction but I don't believe you irradicate mental illness through it. I think bad mental health yes totally but not diagnosed mental illness. When I have an anxiety attack I'm not viewing things from a place of fear, I have a chemical reaction in my brain that bypasses my cortex and there is nothing that has triggered. (This is the first thing I do, look for a trigger because if its general anxiety I can shift it with shifting my focus, amygdala pathway anxiety I can't do this yet although am reading books on it, it's not an emotion it's physical)
So for anyone misunderstood, I see you, you aren't failing, you are trying your best. We've got this🦋💛

I recently did something I don't normally do: I posted something controversial on Facebook. ⠀
Of course, it opened up a debate, after all, everyone has their own opinion. However, what struck me was that there was a clear case of confirmation bias going on within the conversation. ⠀
People, myself included, were simply finding and reporting evidence that only served to confirm what they already believed. It was a case of "I'm right, and I am going to find evidence to prove that". But what if people had taken an opposite approach, such as: "What if there's something I don't know What if I am wrong about my beliefs" ⠀
It occurred to me that the need to prove 'I know the truth' only served to keep everyone further away from it, because it meant that any evidence that contradicted our beliefs was instantly dismissed - just like whenever any great scientist has ever declared a radical new theory - it was instantly dismissed because it was totally contradictory to the understanding at the time. On the other hand, simply a willingness to be wrong about what we believe opens the doorway in our mind to new information, new beliefs, and new futures. Du musst nicht gegen den Regen kämpfen oder einen Weg finden ihn abzustellen, du kannst auch einfach entscheiden einen Regenschirm zu öffnen und weiter zu gehen als gäbe es den Regen nicht.
