Finally deciding to get serious about getting the postpartum weight off was the easy part. Trying to balance eating in enough of a deficit to lose fat while also eating in enough of a surplus to keep him fed and happy is the tough part!
There’s so much dang confusion over how many extra calories you need per day to maintain a good milk supply. Even more confusion over how much you can be in a caloric deficit while maintaining enough of a supply. Hell, I researched and researched and finally got so overwhelmed I said “to hell with it”! You see, the easy part about tracking macros CONSISTENTLY is that if they don’t get you the forward progress you want, you adjust them. It’s seriously that simple.
I started this week at ~1,800 calories. I tell you that because a lot of you follow me on MFP and I’ve talked very openly about my personal numbers on stories. Not for you to copy them and think they’ll work for you, but just to remain super transparent.
If, by the end of this week, I’ve made forward progress and am still hungry consistently each day, we will increase my caloric intake. If I make forward progress and am feeling satiated, we will leave them as is. If I make no progress...well, that’s where it gets tricky! My coach and I discuss where to go next. As of now, 4 full days in, I’m down 2.8lbs and really hungry around 3-8pm each day. I’m sure we will be adjusting for week 2. And I’m HELLA comfortable with that.
So see, tracking macros doesn’t have to be so scary. You just have to remember what your numero uno goal is. For me, that’s maintaining my milk supply for Leon. For you, that might be to maintain a healthy relationship with food. Or having a glass of wine every night. Or maybe to simply get stronger!
My point is, remember why you started and what your intentions are during this process. Because it’s so dad-gum easy to get wrapped up in the wrong goal. 🤘🏼
On Monday I mentioned in my post that I couldn’t get to 2 minutes running with my interval of 2/1 without dying. I was defeated wanting to throw up with a 15:46 mpm and just wanted to make myself comfortable by changing my interval to 1/1 but I chose not to. On Wed I ran my 2/1 interval feeling amazing for 6 rounds at 12:03 mpm and this morning I pushed myself in the rain for 7 rounds and ended with 12:30 mpm. I’ve been doing my meditation right after my outdoor workout by a lake and it’s been the most magical thing when I close my eyes and it’s still kinda dark out and when I’m done and open my eyes the day is brighter. Truly feeling like a new damn day. When it started raining this morning (12 min into my workout) I told myself I would just meditate at home so I don’t have to do it in the rain but I realized that was my mind trying to keep me comfortable and quickly shook off that thought. When I first got married, we didn't have two sets of fitted sheets for our bed. So, I would wash and dry the sheets during the day and hopefully had made the bed before I was too exhausted. 💕
When we bought an extra set of sheets, I had no idea how to fold a fitted sheet with elastic all around. So, I would honestly roll the fitted sheet up and call it good.

in some ways, this was one of the most stressful trips of my life. it took three days for my banks to refund me my stolen money. since my new physical cards will be waiting for me when i get home, i’ve had to get through the rest of this week using #applepay, which is great, but still not every place accepts that form of payment. so there have been a few places that were on my original itinerary i had to pass up on because of that. it’s not the worst problem to have but last night it finally put a damper on my spirits. however, looking back on these pictures i kind of stopped in my tracks and realized that i am lucky to even be here and seeing these views. some people aren’t brave enough to travel because they’re fearful that what happened to me would happen to them. or that locals will be unwelcoming, they get lost, or even worse, kidnapped. i guess that’s just some of what makes traveling such a vulnerable experience, especially with kids. but in the grand scheme of things, the world is a relatively safe place. we don’t just belong to just a small corner of it. this entire planet is our home and i believe it is not only a privilege but a duty to explore it and take care of it. i was so focused on how traveling can shape my kid’s world views. in the end, it’s still challenging and shaping mine.

There are things going around about how we should be celebrating our bodies instead of working hard to change them after baby... and while I believe part of that is true, it pains me to see women settling by feeding themselves these lies. 😞
YES WE SHOULD CELEBRATE! You made a freaking human!!! 👶🏼 but the best way to celebrate and love your new body, is to love it enough to treat it well. To workout daily. And to fuel it with healthy foods because a healthy momma means a healthy baby.
So, here is a reminder for your Friday - It doesn’t have to be pretty. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have the perfect space. You can push the coffee table out of the way. You can do it while the baby is awake or you can do it while the baby is sleeping. You can do it early in the morning. You can do it late at night. You don’t have to have fancy workout clothes. You don’t even have to have weights.
BUT YOU DO... You do have to have love and respect for your body and mind. You have to accept your body at whatever stage it’s in. You do have to recognize that YOU deserve 30 mins a day. You do have to commit. You do have to prioritize.
But YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FEEL GUILTY. You don’t have to feel guilty for wanting to fit in your ore-pregnancy jeans. You don’t have to feel guilty for wanting to look good in a bikini. You don’t have to feel guilty for wanting to be confidant. YOU DONT HAVE TO FEEL GUILTY FOR WANTING TO BE FIT.
Rant over... Have a great weekend! Eat your greens, drink your water, and get in a sweat. But also... eat that cake, enjoy that drink, and kick back and relax. You’ve earned it! •
