🌎 Throwback to my trip out west and seeing the dreamy Moraine Lake! So many people wanted to have a photo on the log so it was super slippery and I nearly fell but somehow ended up looking decent! Have you been to Moraine Lake It’s full of tourists but it’s really stunning.

Apr 14 2017 -- Here at 15,000ft, the cold, harsh landscape has us holding the ones we care about a whole lot tighter. Even if that's someone we just met today. And that someone is a dog. And he's literally just not having it.

On my trip to #Canada this year I was able to see a couple glaciers. On nearby signs, you could see diagrams of how massive the particular glacier used to be and along the trails there would be markings with specific years showing how much they have #receded over time.
This is the #AthabascaGlacier—but really, it’s a small piece of what it used to be. The section with all the dirt is the #moraine, which is an imprint of how wide and extensive the glacier was.
#ClimateChange within recent years has especially been detrimental to our #glaciers.
Remember that you can lower your #CarbonFootprint by changing your #diet.

Signs of past glacial activity are present in mountains across the world and include glacial cirques (vast hollows among mountains slopes), moraines, U-shaped valleys and many more. Here: a beautiful cirque in Karkonosze #mountains, #Poland, which are far too low (~1,500 m) to sustain glaciers under modern climate, but were just fine during the last Ice Age, some 20,000 years ago. The vegetated ridge at the cirque floor is an old, but well preserved terminal moraine.

Epic landscape going up to Cautley Spout, England’s highest waterfall, near Sedbergh, Cumbria. Actually though it’s also in the Yorkshire Dales, just to be confusing. Amazing place, it has the remains of an Iron Age village and I got all the vibes, so I highly suspect the site was of huge ritual significance. In fact I had a panic attack half way up the mountain (well it was treacherous and I wasn’t wearing proper footgear) but once I calmed down, I felt purged of something bad! It’s a great place for geographers and geomorphologists too, just look at that moraine! P.S. after that I bought some summer climbing frog shoes, so don’t worry. #cautleyspout #sedbergh #yorkshiredales #geomorphology #moraine #screeslope #glaciated #ironage #britain #england #uk
From peaks to troughs. Camp had to be set up in strategic points to avoid being too close to the glacial run-off river, and out of harm's way from the frequent rock falls. Since temperatures were reaching some of its highest, glaciers were melting at uneven rates. The river could swell to 200x within a few hours. The summer heat also brought in an abundance of mosquitoes. The record heat in the Arctic increased freeze-thaw weathering, which made the rockfalls from the vertical edges far more likely to put our lives in danger. It often took us hours to find a good spot.
