Renovations are no joke guys! I’m seriously so stress over our bathroom project. I know it will be worth it in the end. It always is but oh my, the getting to there is just awful. I did take a break from the reno mess to spend some time with this sassy lady. She loves all things girly including getting into moms makeup and jewelry. So she was so excited when she received her very own earrings from @sistersandidesigns. I shared a little about this amazing brand in stories today and will share some other fun styles tomorrow. Jackson checked out the house today...he really likes the mudroom 🐶
Just installed the mudroom bench made of reclaimed wood to match the beam in our kitchen. We asked our carpenters to leave the raw edge exposed and we love the way it came out! #customhome #customhomes #farmhouse #modernfarmhouse #mudroom
the vision continues to unfold!
on the plans this area was a coat closet and I knew pretty early on we weren’t goin that route!
& then a couple days ago I told my handy man 😜 we should install the shiplap vertical ... he instantly gave me the same look he gave me when i told him i’d like to paint the doors black 🤨 but i think he’s starting to trust me 😉
this spot isn’t finished! more to come!
Beadboard. Once considered a lowly material used to decorate old cottages or basements in the 70’s. For project King City’s mudroom, we resurrected it by painting it and using it in a horizontal application for a modern take on durability. @miriammanzo_interiors
I love seeing this mural peeking out through the doorway into our mudroom. You can see all about it on our blog this weekend via our link in profile. It came out just as I hoped it would! The black and white floral pattern is fun, a mudroom is the perfect place for a large pop of pattern that might be too much elsewhere. Now can we talk about that black side on our refrigerator It irritates me, the fridge came with the house so we had no choice. Anyone have a DIY way to fix it 😉 🤷🏼♀️ #mudroom #floral #mural #wallpaper #diy #organization #newhome #craftsman #walldecor #interiors .

Tackling another item on our DIY Reno to do list today - new basement windows are going in!
We have a 100 year old home, and the original wood windows were still in the basement and were long overdue for replacement. I refer to our basement as “the dungeon” as it’s old, unfinished and definitely has a creepy factor to it. You can imagine how excited I am for our new laundry room addition so we can move our washer and dryer out of the dungeon!
It is still an ongoing construction zone over here as we work on our DIY addition, renovations, garage build and exterior work, but hey the sun came out today, the snow melted, and check out that amazing blue sky! I looked back in my phone and found some older photos of the addition/renovation process which started April 2018. So very thankful for my husband who is tackling this larger scale DIY project and all the help we have had from family and friends. It is exciting to compare progress photos and see how far our home has come in the last year!
It’s just the right thing to do...
Synthetics are unnatural, as indicated by the term itself.
Therefore I’m encouraging my clients to return to natural carpeting options for boats and mud rooms.
In my own boat, pictured, Champagne, and sand, and food, and Champagne, and at other times, Champagne, seems to spill on carpets.
But that’s what happens when one is enjoying life.
And while I adore the teak-and-holly floor, it’s better for acoustics, and style, to have carpeting.
Working now with @weaverandloom on natural fibre designs that are resistant to spills and moisture, just the way nature made them.
The bonus, other than the sustainable and ecological
It’s created in any pattern and colour we can design together, for you.
Consider a bespoke rug for all cottage and mud room uses.
It’s good for planet earth.

Back to working on the mudroom. Need to cut and stain a bench seat top and trim out the cabinets with base, side trim and some crown.
And, at some point need to decide on pulls/knobs - with a million options that shouldn't be hard...
Adding a drop zone area next to the front door is always a great idea! When your guests come over, they have somewhere to drop their coats and shoes! What’s really cool is that there is actually a story behind this piece of wood that holds the hooks. One day I was at my dads, and visiting his burn pile, which I do often. I always find good treasures. This is a great example of one of those treasures! This old piece of wood was in our barn for many many years, my dad was about to burn it. I grabbed it really quickly and took it home and plopped it up on the wall, added hooks, and here it is today! It was the perfect fit for this wall!
When we first purchased this 1915 home it had 3 exterior doors, but none of them really stood out as the “main” entrance to the home. So during the remodel we turned what was just a side entrance into a charming mudroom/main entrance. The space is small so we kept it simple with a custom made bench. We went with these gorgeous cement tiles to give the home an element of design right when you walk in. We want potential buyers to get excited when they first enter the house. What do you think #mudroom
