Hey friends! Going to focus on the spine & shoulders. A great way to relax before bed! I ❤️teaching this class- can’t wait!! 6 spots left so reserve yours now!!! #myofascialrelease #ilovemyjob #redlandsyoga
Osteoarthritis doesn't spring up over night 💯 Our bodies give us warning signs decades in advance that tell us we are on an unhealthy path. 🛣Muscle cramps and muscle knots in your shoulders and back are an indication something isn't right.
Tightness will lead to restricted movement which leads to weak muscles💪🏽 This leads to sprains and strains which becomes poor joint control and over decades, will become osteoarthritis. Myofascial stretch therapy is an effective way to release tight muscles and decrease tension. ‼️ V.O.M.I.T. (Victim of Medical Imaging Technology) ‼️
As we have discovered, pain is largely created in the brain. Now that’s not to say that pain is all in your head but there is a cognitive component that is influenced by your past experiences, behaviors, your environment, etc. The graphic above offers support to thi idea. For each of the studies above, researchers took those with pain and those without and compared their imaging. Interestingly enough, there was little difference between imaging of those who had pain and those who did not. •————————————————————•
Take low back pain, for example. The study showed that lumbar disc degeneration is present in 40% of individuals under the age of 30 and present in 90% of those between the ages of 50-55. That’s a very high percentage for both age groups, yet 40% of people under 30 and 90% of people 50-55 don’t all have back pain. What does this mean You probably have a degenerating and/or bulging disc in your back as you’re reading this. Are you all in pain Probably not. Why PAIN IS COMPLEX!
And if you’re still not convinced, there was another study performed on professional basketball players where they examined meniscal damage, imaging and pain reports. They found that 48% of healthy professional basketball players had meniscal (cartilage) damage in their knees on their MRIs. •————————————————————•
This confirms the idea that pain is in fact a complex experience that cannot be explained simply by damage/injury to a structure or body part. YOU ARE NOT YOUR MRI, CT scan, x-ray, etc. After the age of 25, our bodies naturally start to degenerate slowly and arthritis appears in nearly everybody but how we experience it will be entirely different and largely based on the individual. DON’T PANIC, IT’S ORGANIC. Stop stressing about what your doctor told you they found on your imaging but instead focus on function because that’s all that really matters in the end!

FOAM ROLLING SERIES ✨〰️
Do you have a tight mid/upper back 🙋♀️ Don’t we all Am I right!
Here is a much requested video, and I’ll be posting more soon, because I love self-myofascial release 🤓💆♀️💃
(It also features Charlie for all of her adoring fans 🤩🐼)
Try out these moves on a foam roller, go slowly, breathe deeply, and keep your core engaged as you extend.
I would write out a description of who this is best for like; people who sit in desks, people who sit in cars (or planes, or trains, or automobiles...wait subways.) people who sit too much, people who use cell phones or computers, people who slouch, people who tax their bodies in the gym or in active jobs, people who hold stress in their shoulders/neck, people who hide when they walk down the street... the list goes on and quickly describes everyone in this day in age.
As you can see, we all need a little bit of posture love.
If you spend a lot of time hunched over, you body is missing that opposite range of motion and is getting stuck in a pattern.
Go to the other side every so often, because as we know and learn all the time, life is all about balance.
P.S. you can do this without a roller as well, every so often throughout your day out your hands behind your head and bend backwards ☺️👍🏻
Stay tuned for more foam rolling videos to come!

Happy Workout Wednesday!! IFT...I would say Mondays and Tuesdays have been some tough workout days. Would you agree If you've been attending both classes regularly...your body should be screaming! I know mine is and that's from demonstrating a few reps! All of this and then Pound on Thursdays...OMG!! .
I can honestly say....we do not spend enough time stretching in class. Stretching really needs a class of it's own in our rotation! #comingsoon .
Until then let's focus on Self-Myofascial Release aka foam rolling at home! Self-Myofascial is a way to give yourself a deep tissue massage. By slowly rolling over various areas of the body, as demonstrated by our girl Whitney, you'll loosen up tight areas such as upper back, quads, hamstrings and calves. .
Foam rollers allow us to use our body's natural response to pressure. You know when you've hit a tight spot, you can apply more pressure in a effort to release the tension from your muscles! #brutalworkouts Foam rolling is great for improving range of motion, decreasing muscle soreness and improving exercise performance. .
Get your roll on today to help soothe your muscles!!

The practice of yin yoga is a wonderful counter to the overstimulation and overactive life that many of us lead. We live in a world where we are bombarded with stimuli that is available 24/7. Yin yoga is a pause, a reset to this. It encourages us to find stillness both in the physical body and the mind. As we start this practice we learn to be ok with the gaps. Instead of filling the gaps with mind chatter and stimulation we allow ourselves to remain empty. We learn to become ok with these gaps, allowing ourselves to just be. This can be a more challenging practice for many of us but so beneficial. Yin works on our connective tissues and removes blockages in the myofascial meridians in the body. The connective tissues stretch when they are stressed in a slow, steady fashion which is why we practice longer holds. Join us on Tuesday evenings at 6:45pm for our traditional yin and myofascial release class. It’s suitable for all levels!
Regeneration has a new class time! It will be starting at 8:45am. Start your Saturday off right!

Is this a common place of tension for you 🍃
Here I'm concentrating on releasing the fascia of the mandible (the jaw). I'm sinking my fingers into the tissue of the inferior digastric, located under the jaw. At the same time, the thenar eminence of both thumbs are very lightly engaging the tissue of the masseter muscles on either side of the face.
My intention here is to release as much tension in the facial fascia as I can. With the tissue of the masseter muscles engaged, I slowly encourage it towards the jawline and at the same time I'm sensing for a simultaneous release of the inferior digastrics, allowing my finger tips to be "sucked" up into the tissues underneath the jaw. With my fingertips "sunk" into the tissue I slowly start to move along the mandible towards the corners of the jawline.
This technique, when used with other techniques around the jaw/head, is very good at relieving TMJ issues, tension headaches, sinus issues, to name but a few issues.

People often ask me "what do you do with people in their 50s and 60s" or "how do you have people with so many injuries performing those exercises" So, here's the "secret" to turning back time, reclaiming your body and living your best life .....
For our members, #wednesday is active recovery day which includes #softtissuework to release trigger points and adhesions, #yoga to correct #muscleimbalance issues and #pilates for spinal awareness and core work.
Pushing more weight and having good looking "mirror muscles" (you know, the ones responsible for looking great naked) is great but our group training members know #myofascialrelease and #stretching are the secrets to looking great AND increasing muscle strength QUICKER, eliminating back, knee and shoulder pain and improving performance in any sport !
Active recovery is imperative if you want a pain free body that looks, feels and performs it's best, it's as simple as that! .
Is active recovery part of your #workoutprogram or are you skipping one of the most important factors in optimal performance and just plain feeling better
Be sure to keep your eyes out for our Hot For The Holidays Challenge starting Nov 5tj! Pre registration is opening soon !
“You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.” ~Oprah Winfrey
This woman is one of my biggest inspirations. She is a light-worker and a master manifestor.
She has always believed fiercely in herself, her vision, her intuition and that she is worthy. Knowing you are worthy of what you want, whether in your personal life or the world stage, is key. You, more than anyone, must believe you are worthy of your desires. And then be brave, be vulnerable, and ask for them honestly.
Your desires, your dreams, they are divine whispers! The Universe helping you align with purpose. It’s not some cosmic joke or ploy to pull the rug out from under your feet, it is your truth! YOU, just as much as anyone in the world (including Oprah) are worthy of your dreams, of your heart’s deepest desire. <•>
Is there something you have been wanting to do for a long time but are afraid you will fail Or be judged for doing Is there something you need from a partner or loved one you’ve been too afraid to ask for <•>
Be brave, dear heart, ask for what you want and need. The Universe has your back. And probably so does Oprah.💖 <•>

Great Post by @achievefitnessboston on fixing your Push Ups while protecting your shoulders from any extra stress! Try these slight adjustments for better shoulder health!
ARE YOU MAKING THESE COMMON PUSHUP MISTAKES
What’s up Achievers! laurenpak22 here with some pushup tips for you! As you can see in the top photo, I’m shrugging my shoulders and allowing my elbows to point straight out at a 90 degree angle from my body. This not only over-engages the upper trap muscles, which tend to be overdeveloped already, but it also puts the shoulders in a vulnerable position. If you ever experience shoulder discomfort during pushups, this positioning error may be the cause!
In the bottom photo, you can see that I have “anti-shrugged” my shoulders by creating space between my upper traps and ears. This helps to engage the lat muscles and relaxes the upper traps. I also have my elbows closer to my body, pointing about 45 degrees away, which helps to keep my shoulders in a more optimal position! This is a general guideline and there’s definitely some wiggle room with the elbow angle, but somewhere in this vicinity will be ideal!
Share with a friend who’s working on their pushups, and give this post a double tap if you found it helpful! Until next time, peace, love, and muscles!✌️💙💪
