I usually press it for 60 seconds or into the pain is reduced. You need a good sense of touch to feel a trigger point nodules within this taut band. •

Taut band is a taut strand of fiber in the muscle that feels like a cord or small cable forms subsequent to the trigger point ( swipe pic 3 ). •

It can be mistaken for tendon. A taut band can be the most troublesome part of the problem because it restricts range of motion by limiting the muscles ability to lengthen.

Let’s see a raise of hands who is hunched over a desk for majority of the day and then by the evening your shoulders/neck are sore just begging for a massage? Me too! 
Here’s a simple way to open up the chest to get those shoulders back where they belong, all while you are getting your 5 minutes of daily self-care. 
All you need is a large yoga bolster or a 36” foam roller. Go ahead and lie supine (on your back) on the bolster/foam roller with knees bent and roll your shoulders up and out, letting your arms drape to the side with your palms face upward. Lie here taking at least 5-10 good breathes of inhaling through your nose and exhaling through the mouth. Make sure your belly rises and lowers on each inhale. Close your eyes and feel the chest open and melt into the prop. If you’re on the foam roller you may begin to roll from side to side laterally in a slow pace to give your back and shoulders a little myofascial release. 
You may stay in that position for your entire 5 minutes of your Five to Revive of self-care time or add additional time to make it 8 minutes of self-care time. As I like to call it Eight to Rejuvenate.

Starting my week so strong, boys and girls! Today was bitter-sweet... I have a lot of reports on re-x-rays today, which is always amazing and sad (sad is me being selfish). Starting my week so strong, boys and girls! Today was bitter-sweet... I have a lot of reports on re-x-rays today, which is always amazing and sad (sad is me being selfish). Even though we have the same hardware,(our nervous system 🧠) our software programs, (which is how your nervous systems function) are very different. •

We see many patients who have pain due to injury, however we see other patients who come in because they are in chronic pain and some of them have no injured tissue at that point. They think they do though. •

Many patients have stated, “my body hurts even if I think about moving it.“ This is completely understandable. You are not crazy if you’ve experienced this. Your brain is so complex and advanced that it has learned to be very efficient at protecting you from anything that might be dangerous to your tissues. Your nervous system is considered to be “sensitized” and adapted over time to become much more sensitive.•

Even fear of re-injuring yourself or thinking that you might be damaging your tissues (even if they are completely healed) can cause you pain. These thoughts and the fear of certain activities, or a fear of re-injury, can increase your pain.

It is common for patients to think, “I am in pain, so therefore, there must be something harmful happening to my body.” ...Or... “I’m not doing anything until all the pain goes away.“
•
•
Th first step is getting patients to understand why this is happening, and if it’s related to an active injury or if their pain is from their brain being hypersensitive or (overly protective). •
•
The next step is educating the patient how to help remodel their nervous system. This entails showing you how to change your “software program,” so that you can get back to your normal. •

Find a spot on muscle not bone roll slightly around until you find a tender spot, once you found one STOP! (Don’t keep rolling) as you push more pressure hold for 30-60 seconds or until tender spot has become not as tender. ⁣

You can lift arm for more pressure ⁣

Everyone who sits at a desk typing all day during work or school should do this in order to release tension from lats to avoid tight muscles closing in chest and protracted head/neck causing you to sit more hunched or forward. ⁣

If done before workout you may notice a wider range of motion during chest press ⁣

Also if you have done squat test and arms lean forward this is another way to reduce the forward lean and form a better squat position ⁣
