Number 0 for #WrittenInNumbers with @bernice_lettersandthings @inkfurie @lililettering -
It was developed in India around the fifth century A.D., perhaps a couple of centuries earlier. Before then, mathematicians struggled to perform the simplest arithmetic calculations. Today, zero — both as a symbol (or numeral) and a concept meaning the absence of any quantity — allows us to perform calculus, do complicated equations, and to have invented computers.

Getting on the Penang ferry to mainland Malaysia, this morning I looked up and saw it was nearly 11.11am so had to stop to take this snap at 11:11:11.
Was already feeling chirpy to be on the next phase of our adventures, but I love spotting angel numbers so this blessed our journey with extra auspiciousness! 🧚♀️
Another little gem in the #synchronicity #treasurechest. I keep seeing repeating numbers, like #111 and #1111. Jung associated repetitive numbers with the #phenomenon of synchronicity, and I have long found this subject fascinating (you can find his book on the subject here: https://amzn.to/2Td8U0D ). It has become a familiar and sometimes entertaining occurrence and often lets me know I’ve been working in the right area(s) for my #development and #transformation. Keep an eye out for it. What synchronicities have you experienced

🔊⏱In mathematics speed isn’t always the number one concern, process is extremely important in understanding current problems and future ones. We all know how to add numbers in a list like the ones shown and this isn’t a difficult one to tackle. However there are still strategies that you can use to decrease the amount of time such a task will take.
From the Latin con meaning with or together and venio meaning I come, CONVENIENT numbers are those which combine to make easy sums to work with. If we can group these numbers into pairs that go together to make 10, 20, etc. we can get through the bulk of these numbers very quickly. Convenient numbers also may be doubles or any other sum you are familiar with.
The point is to attack this set of numbers with mental math. To enter all of these into a Calculator would be tedious mistake prone and would take too much time. To simply add these numbers vertically like we would if there were only two of them might also be more work than is necessary.
For me it’s all about numbers that are partners to make 10 and the multiples of it. In this particular set I have an 18 and a 2 which make 20, a 19 and an eleven which make 30. Now for doubles: 12 and 5 make 17 plus the other 17 make 34. This brings us to 20+30+34 or 84 then we simply add the remaining 11 to get the sum of 95.
You might have done this a different way which to me underscores the beauty of mathematics. There is structure inherent in all the math we do and you can almost always get there another way. Part of what distinguishes strong students from others is their ability to model multiple solution paths. Open your mind! 😀➕➖✖️➗
