Yes, one calorie is a unit of energy and the physical definition of a calorie stands true across the board, but eating 300 calories of cake and 300 calories of a healthy snack are going to effect your body's composition and health very differently. For example, when we eat 300 calories from processed junk and sweets, that sugar is thrown into your bloodstream which can cause a massive insulin spike, a hormone needed to bring glucose into your cells for use. Your blood sugar levels drop relatively fast and you end up being quite hungry again in an hour or less which can lead to overeating throughout the day if this is repeated and could also eventually lead to insulin resistance. Furthermore, those processed foods are void of any nutritional value which means your cells do not get the nutrients they need to perform their functions and thus you feel lethargic and could develop nutrient deficiencies, both of which can effect your performance in the gym and throughout the day which has indirect impact on your body composition. On the other hand, opting for a healthier alternative like fruit and some healthy fats leads to a significantly more controlled and healthier glucose release into the bloodstream and insulin response which not only provides your body with the energy it needs in a very sustainable and prolonged way, but keeps you fuller for longer which can prevent overeating. Business as usual.

Whom among us has not heard the saying "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips?" We all like food that tastes good and in all fairness I think we all deserve to enjoy eating our food.

Unfortunately, what the majority of us are eating is NOT food.

It's chemicals masquerading as foods. So many of the processed foods we consume have been painstakingly designed to make us crave more.

While I have to tip my hat off to the fast-food industry for their research and attention to detail. I detest the way they have destroyed the American diet.

That's right I said destroyed. Have you ever heard the acronym for the American diet? It is SAD (Standard American Diet). The unfortunate truth is that it is SAD. We as a nation are slowly killing ourselves and to make matters worse we cannot figure out why new diseases seem to be popping up like wild flowers in the spring.

I cannot stress this enough pay attention to what you eat. The foods we consume dictate what our bodies can do and make.

Make sure you give your body the fuel it needs and not the poison designed to make you want more!

If I was lucky, whomever made it put sliced water chestnuts in it...I’m drooling even thinking about it. So, I thought I’d make the dish myself but I couldn’t just let it go with a few simple ingredients. ⁣

Two cups of Lundberg Farms wild rice, 32 ounces Swanson Chicken/Parm Brodo (that’s just Italian for broth), 1 can whole water chestnuts, 3 green onion stems, 1 package white button mushrooms sliced, 2 Roma tomatoes sliced, 2 roasting pimentos peppers, 1/2 head fresh cauliflower, 1 fresh broccoli crown, fresh rosemary and sage (just a bit), dried oregano, Himilayan salt, black pepper, garlic powder, 1 bag of shredded Colby Jack, 1/2 bag shredded Mozzarella, 1/2 tub fresh grated Parmesan. Cook on 375 for 45 minutes covered, raise temp to 400, uncover and cook another 30 minutes or until rice is tender, stir to incorporate as it cooks. ⁣

The person on the left was desperate and miserable, with zero to no motivation to step into a gym, because I was afraid people would look at me like I didn’t belong there. ⠀

A common misconception with hip thrust is only that females perform it to better build their glutes. 💥

Often neglected by guys, this is why EVERYONE should hip thrust. Plus if people stare you can just 😉 at them. 💥

Hip thrust will actually help your lower body perform better as you incorporate them into your workout regimen. They will target your lower back, hamstrings, and core muscles 💥

For me personally, I’ve notice my weights go up drastically for deadlifts and squats once I started using the hip thrust. 💥

As you’ll notice, i really like to focus on form for this exercise so that I can feel the burn in my ass and hamstrings. It’s a good burn I promise! 💥

If there was a birthday coming up, I would literally be on a complete HIGH the day of because I was finally going to have an excuse to eat more of it!!⠀

Then, if you tried to speak to me while I was indulging, I would literally be annoyed by you. 🤦‍♀️Every moment of my focus HAD to be on whatever sugary high I was getting. ⠀

Then I would not stop going back until I literally could not taste sugar any longer. (PLEASE share with me if you've experienced that phenomenon so I don't feel as pathetic). ⠀

But the highs were not worth the lows. ⠀ ⠀
My relationship with sweets was obsessive and damaging to me health. Good gawl the insulin spikes I had in those moments were SINFUL! ⠀

3) Do the majority of your shopping on the outer aisles of the supermarket. This is where you will find real wholefoods. ⁠

4) Read the ingredients on your packaged food, not just the nutritional label. The ingredients are just as important as the nutrition panel. If you don't recognise an ingredient, your body won't either. ⁠

5) Buy fresh seasonal produce where possible. Supermarkets these days often have some fruits and vegetables available all year round. Know what's in season. Shopping for your fruit and vegetables at local farmers markets will allow you to shop for only what is in season. While fresh is best, frozen vegetables are still okay to have on hand for a quick easy go-to. ⁠

While alcohol is obviously bad for your liver, studies have shown it can actually be a factor in preventing heart disease.⁣⁣

Also, red wine contains an antioxidant called Resveratrol, which reduces inflammation and bad cholesterol in the body.⁣⁣

Kinda crazy huh?!⁣⁣

Alcohol, when overdone can seriously harm your organs as you are all aware, so moderation is ALWAYS key.⁣⁣

I’ve found that my body is happy when I have a glass of wine usually once a week. ⁣⁣
