I see a lot of photographers posting about their frustrations in business. When you’re in business for yourself guess what, you get to decide who you want to do business with. I loved talking to this photographer this weekend, who has been learning who she wants to work with and who she doesn’t. It’s a process. I’ve done a ton a free shoots, but I always see them a valuable experience...I either learn that I don’t want that kind of collaboration or that we bring a huge value to each other. In all cases I’m grateful that they want to work with me. But in the end I decided whether it’s worthwhile or not. As a business owner, you have the power to say “yes” or “no”. One last thing you have to remember as a business owner in America, you’re in the service industry, don’t ruin your reputation, you want to vent or rant, do it with a friend, do it in private!
PS: @haitiangainz Is someone I always want to work with, he gets the value of photography and supports me as a creative! I’m eternally grateful for his kindness!

Today we pay special tribute to Agora Gallery's founder, the late Miki Stiles. Miki was a passionate and dedicated artist whose goal was to make a lasting impression on the New York art world. An actress, painter, sculptor and all-around creative, Miki studied at the famous School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. She found in New York an art scene that was inspiring, energizing, overwhelming, and, at the same time, very difficult to break into without the proper connections.
She struggled unsuccessfully to get representation at one of the traditional galleries. So, in 1984 she decided to open her own gallery both to show her work and to provide other artists, from all backgrounds, with the same opportunity to connect and exhibit their artwork in New York City. Promoting artists without a track record in a certain market is always a risk. Miki was not rich, and in order to sustain the gallery, she had artists pay a fee for which many promotional services, in addition to an exhibition, were provided. And the rest is history, as they say, and Agora Gallery has been doing just that for more than 30 years, functioning with the same passion and drive that Miki Stiles always had.
We are so proud of Miki's vision and honored to carry on her legacy!

I was recently asked when I knew I was an artist. Interesting question. I believe I was an artist for as long as I can remember. But times dictated that I get a “real” job and put creativity low on the totem pole. Practicality ruled. •
This morning after a couple of non painting days the urge, a craving actually presented itself. And so the answer about when I knew is answered. I can’t not create. It’s not what I do. It’s what I am- what’s in my soul. A calling of sorts to add beauty to the universe with color 😊 **************************************************
