It’s me Lauren! I’m 22 from slc Utah. I’m obsessed with my dog and my husband. I love playing games!!! I love tv shows (fav shows right now are... okay i can’t even choose because I have so many😂 but love The Office, Schitts Creek, and Scandal) I also work as an orthodontist assistant and in all my spare minutes I’m working on ModernYarn. I love art so much and feel so grateful I can create something so unique and special for people! •

1 inspiring ocean / 3 points of view 🌴🌊 These minis were the ‘brainstorm’ for some ideas I ended up turning into ornaments and larger canvas paintings over the past few weeks. It’s been lots of fun to step away from my usual (messy) resin process for a little while and just create freely without the gas mask & hazardous chemicals... 🙈
All Christmas ornaments (including these styles and my usual resin beaches) will be 20% off on the website this weekend! Happy holidays!

The Portugese Man o War: Physalia physalis, class siphonophora
The most incredible thing about these creatures is that while they superficially ressemble jellyfish (another one of their cousins), they are quite different in their actual anatomy. Infact, Physalia is not a true multicellular organism, but instead a colony of “zooids” or “polyps”. Each of these zooids performs a particular survival function, with the gastrozoids being in charge of feeding, the dactylozoids in charge of capturing and defending via stinging structures and the gonozoids ensuring the survival of the species through reproduction. Lastly a single zooid will become the characteristic bladder or float, which maintains the colony at the surface of the sea and catches the wind for mobility. What differentiates them from other colonial organisms such as corals is that each unit cannot survive without the other. So while a coral polyp severed from his colony might go on happily feeding, reproducing and stinging, these guys realy depend on the teamwork to get anything done.
Travelling the seven seas using their gas filled bladder, or pneumatophore, at the same time as a sail and as a buoyancy device, they are feared for their vicious stings. Like jellyfish and corals, they have venom filled nematocysts, which are mainly used to immobilise small fish. In extremely rare cases they can be fatal to humans as well, but, more often than not, they simply cause severe pain, and side effects such as nausea or fevers. These tentacles can be up to 50 metres long, and will still sting even if stranded on the beach or detached from the colony, so it can be tricky to avoid them before its too late. the arrival of one portugese man’o war can close an entire beach down. Since Physalia is mainly driven by wind and waves, they often congregate in the same windstill coastal areas, and often the sight of one portugese man o war is enough to close an entire beach down.

Salty Water joins my limited edition series, created from my origin painting. Resin art is unforgiving however my print range allows flexibility in size and composition. So much fun. 170cm x 90cm or custom sized to brief 💙💙
