When remodeling a kitchen, sometimes a good quality paint job applied to cabinets can produce beautiful results. These oak cabinets were painted and lightly glazed. New #granite, #tilebacksplash, sink, faucet, #woodflooring, cabinet hardware were added to finish the remodel.
Our house has 2 cabinets that aren’t painted inside. Interiors of cabinets are often particle board and laminate making it difficult for paint to adhere. The previous owners were nice enough to leave us the paint so I didn’t have to go color match. Yay! The first thing I did was take some liquid deglosser and let that sit on the shelves and interior. I also sanded any spots that needed it. Use your judgement you will be able to tell what spots need a little bit more elbow grease. Then a mixture of 1/3 cup cool water 1/3 cup of plaster of Paris and 1 cup of your own paint and you got yourself some chalk paint. I doubled the batch and put it in a mason jar (be sure to put it in something that seals well because it dries out fast) I did a couple coats of paint using a smaller foam roller in order to ensure an even finish. I also Used a small paint brush to get the corners where the roller missed. You can give a sanding in between coats but I didn’t because they are interior shelves and I don’t care if they are perfect. I opted for a water based polyacrylic because it’s inside the house and the odor isn’t as strong as an oil based polyurethane. I am only painting the underside of the shelves (the part you see) and using a high quality white contact paper on the top of the shelves. It will be more durable for any items I will place on them and it cut down on the time I spent painting. #benjaminmoore #sandyhookgray #DAP #plasterofparis #minwax #minwaxpolycrylic #makeyourownchalkpaint #chalkpaint #paintedcabinets #diy #watchpaintdry
Sometimes it's all about the details, and the organization is just a bonus!
We were featured on Houzz in the article "The 10 Most Popular Kitchens of the Week from 2018". Our very own Jennifer Gallagher had her kitchen featured in the number (3) spot. We remodeled Jennifer's kitchen last year. (See the before and after pics below) After all our fun on her project, she just couldn't get enough of us and decided to take a job with our company. She has been a great addition to our team. This week I am transforming my client's kitchen from outdated golden oak to updated two-toned gray. The cabinets will be Acier- a beautiful greige color & the island Gauntlet gray- warm slate gray color. I could not be happier with the color choices and it's all coming together perfectly! I'm about halfway done and can't wait for the big reveal!! .
Do you have an outdated kitchen that you would like to update to your current style
Daisy didn’t like the two-toned kitchen in my first attempt. She said it didn’t match her vision. So she made me spend all week repainting the cabinets *again* with a slightly lighter color. Man, I’m tired. But I love the results, so I’m glad I listened to my design pup. (Photo is of Daisy in the updated kitchen.)
