Excavating memories of the past through the lens of the present in these large wall pieces incorporating saved drawings and ephemera. This one is called “What Is Real”
Today I wanted to share some interesting knowledge regarding the use of mandalas in art therapy. It's called Creativity in therapy.
Creating mandalas as an art therapy can be a wonderful activity for centering, meditation, emotional expression and self-soothing. Many people find the process of drawing and filling in the mandala to be very calming. In addition to this, the structure of circle provides a sense of containment and decreases the anxiety. For some people, seeing a blank sheet of paper can stir up anxiety around expectations that they make a "good picture" or cause them to feel that they donot know where to start. The circle gives you a starting point. Creating a mandala is therapeutic and symbolic. The shapes and colours you create in your mandala will reflect your inner self at the time of creation. Your instincts and feelings should guide you through the process of creation.Ultimately, you will be creating a potrait of yourself as you are when creating the mandala. So, whatever you are feeling at that time, whatever emotions are coming through , will be represented in your mandala art. As with most art therapy, it's not about the final product, it's about the journey. When you reach your destination, you will have a representation of something meaningful and personal...a snapshot of you for a brief moment in time expressed through your mandala.
Feel free to express what are your thoughts about creating a mandala and how does it help to calm your inner storms 😊 And if you haven't tried it yet, give it a try and share your experience with me. 💜
