Happy New Year! It's been so nice to spend time with family & friends!! 💕We're back to our daily routines tomorrow when my oldest goes back to school. 🙌 He spent the last bit of his holiday fun gaming & drawing lots of Ninjago characters. I prepped as much as I could because who knows how our first day will be like...hopefully we won't hit snooze on all our alarms!! 😪
Anyways✏✔ Need to look for an OG super sharp silver pencil sharpener for him and a manual crank pencil sharpener for our house (for me). 😌 Don't you just love the smell of pencil shavings Happy childhood memories.

#thejanuarychallenge: Take a walk and pay attention to the sites, smells, sounds and textures around you. 🌈 It is raining here today. That wouldn't stop me from walking, it is actually really lovely since it marks the end of a heat wave. The constant drizzle and slight breeze is very calming as I sit in my drawing spot with the window open. I can hear the birds as always, they are pretty much a constant soundtrack to everything I do in and around this house in the day, it is one of the things I love about where I currently live, because that didn't happen in my old place. Walking in the rain would definitely be good in terms of sensory stimulation 🌈 But I went ahead with this idea that I already had because it fitted in with today's prompt in terms of being present with your senses and also because I had a #drawingyourownpath drawing bee first thing this morning so why not just jump into it I have this little white dish that I've been using to collect my pencil shavings. When I was a kid I used love using pencil shavings for shading and as I saw them starting to build up in the dish, I thought oh at some point I'm going to use those shavings! 🌈 You can see the process that I went through in the progression of images. 1) I pulled out the large pieces and put them on the page to get them out of the dish. 2) I picked up the large pieces and and put them aside again and spilled the small filings out onto the page and started to draw with them. 3) I was having fun but then decided to up the anti and put the large pieces back on the page and crush up the wood - A very sensory experience in terms of sound and texture! 4. Then I drew all over the page using fingers on both hands until it felt done. The outcome has a really soft texture which is hard to show using digital media. There are also a few circle imprints that came through from the drawing that I did yesterday. 5) All the while I was conversing with my drawing buddies who were beaming through wires to me from the other side of the world. #64millionartists #make365 day 6 #365insideoutside #pencilshavings #allofthecolours #allofthecolors #michellekayartist
