Today was a proud day. We had planned on running 7 miles, the farthest @theresadomenico4144 has ran, but with the rain and cold I wasn't sure what would end up happening. As we got to the crossroads I told T "it's cold, and it's raining. 5 miles is your go to long day. It's nothing to be ashamed of if you want to do 5 instead of 7." And it's true. We are ahead of schedule in her half marathon training. We could have easily skipped the 7, and worked on it next week. But what did she do She ran across the road, to the 7 mile loop.
With this kind of sport you have to mentally be okay with the idea that this will hurt, this will suck, this won't be easy; but it will give you life, and show you, you can persevere, you're worth the fight, and that the best views come with the hardest routes.
I don't consider myself a coach, a leader, or some know all athlete. I'm a fat dude that loves running, and I love sharing the joy it can bring. Today was a proud day. To watch a friend say they are worth that suffering. That the easy road isn't the right road. To see someone else find some happiness in this dumb sport I love so much. Proud of you, buddy.

"We are now in the mountains and they are in us, kindling enthusiasm, making every nerve quiver, filling every pore and cell of us. Our flesh-and-bone tabernacle seems transparent as glass to the beauty about us, as if truly an inseparable part of it, thrilling with the air and trees, streams and rocks, in the waves of the sun, - a part of all nature, neither old nor young, sick nor well, but immortal. Just now I could hardly conceive any bodily condition dependent on food or breath any more than the ground or the sky." - John Muir
It's crazy how 5 miles on the road seem to go on forever, but 8 miles in the mountains never seems like enough. Great to be camping along Cooper Lake. My @marmot tent didn't work as well as normal, breaking a tent pole and all, but luckily I had an extra tent spike, and some tape.

"concerning the message that was transmitted to me under a pine tree in North Carolina on a cold winter moonlit night. It said that Nothing Ever Happened, so don't worry. It's all like a dream. Everything is ecstasy, inside. We just don't know it because of our thinking-minds. But in our true blissful essence of mind is known that everything is alright forever and forever and forever. Close your eyes, let your hands and nerve-ends drop, stop breathing for 3 seconds, listen to the silence inside the illusion of the world, and you will remember the lesson you forgot, which was taught in immense milky way soft cloud innumerable worlds long ago and not even at all. It is all one vast awakened thing. I call it the golden eternity. It is perfect. We were never really born, we will never really die. It has nothing to do with the imaginary idea of a personal self, other selves, many selves everywhere: Self is only an idea, a mortal idea. That which passes into everything is one thing. It's a dream already ended. There's nothing to be afraid of and nothing to be glad about. I know this from staring at mountains months on end. They never show any expression, they are like empty space. Do you think the emptiness of space will ever crumble away Mountains will crumble, but the emptiness of space, which is the one universal essence of mind, the vast awakenerhood, empty and awake, will never crumble away because it was never born" - Kerouac
Amazing day to run in this beautiful fall weather.

I wish you'd take a chance to truly see freedom. A freedom from workloads, from due dates, from the constant wishing for the weekend. I speak of a true, innate freedom. One that comes with minimal money, and minimal things. A freedom that comes with coffee made from river water, built on tired legs, and burnt skin. On empty stomachs, and sore lungs.
It is in this state, the adventurers state, that true adventure happens. When the only option is the climb the mountain, to soak in the sun, and ingest true primal freedom. Only when you surrender to the land, and accept that you are nothing in the wake of everything will you find yourself at the foot of adventure, and with it freedom.
I hope you make a true effort to try and make this drastic change in your life at least once. To be an unapologetic romantic. To let the earth break you down, to let your body feel completely lost, and to focus only on the essential things in life, to breathe, to inhale the sweet clean mountain air, and to put one foot in front of the other. Live. No day is guaranteed, and no second should be wasted.
Yes I've been nonstop reading On The Road, Factotum, and Into The Wild this trip. I apologize for absolutely none of it.

Colorado... Wow. I can't believe the month is over. It breaks my heart to leave this place. Constant peaks, and new trails. Staying in possibly my favorite town ever, Fort Ballins. Meeting new people, seeing old friends, drinking river cooled beers, and even seeing an Uncle Ronnies sign at a bar. I love it here. I love the freedom and vast wilderness this beautiful state has to offer. I love the people, their willingness to just except new people, and to always offer a beer after a hard day in the mountains. My heart tells me I'll be back soon. But for now it's back home to Washington. To see what wilderness I can find. Thank you so much, Colorado. I'll dream of avalanche chutes, technical decents, and the cool 13,000ft air.
