This is the only time you’ll ever see me in this dress. ————————————
I bought it a few years ago. I remember thinking it would be perfect for that ‘not too dressy/not too casual’ night out (Even though it’s always a casual night out). It has stayed in my closet since – covered, on a padded hanger – where it was occasionally brought out for consideration. Each time, promptly returned. Determined to be ‘too dressy, not dressy enough, too fitted, or, my favourite - ‘I’m saving it for something better’ - it never made the cut.
Except for once. My one and only fancy photo shoot with the talented @heikedelmore .
I never shared this photo because just looking at myself leaning against the wall is - as my daughter would say - “cringey”. I’m certain Heike shares stories of the super uncomfortable 40+ year old that had to down half a bottle of wine at 10am - just to feel mildly comfortable in front of the camera (think deer in headlights). While my ‘come hither’ look makes me laugh at myself– it’s the only time I wore this dress. At least I have this photo to prove its existence.
Why share this story Because when I pulled it out this week, I discovered that years of hanging had slowly loosened the crocheted shoulder - leaving a massive crater (bit of an exaggeration) in its wake. It’s like the dress fell apart from neglect.
I suppose there’s a lesson here, but I’m at a loss for what it might be. I’ve narrowed it down to 4 possible reasons for your consideration;
1. Wear the dress. Don’t wait for the perfect occasion.
2. Buy clothes for your actual lifestyle. ie Jeans or PJs.
3. Get out of your style rut. Yes @sammartinnnnn – I know that I’m always wearing a turtle neck and jeans … or pjs. Stop with the judgey eyes please.
4. Don’t hang anything crocheted.
I hope, dear friends, that you’ll help me determine the take-away from this wardrobe tragedy.
Anxiously awaiting your feedback.
RIP #ByronLars dress.
Sunday’s are for PJs, crocheting, and Harry Potter marathons 🥰

No this title isn’t a cry for help. Promise. Today I was in the mood for something a bit different to read, so I started looking through my shelves and noticed this book I’ve had for ages staring back at me. Not literally. That would be terrifying. 👀😱 Anyway—if anyone’s interested in knowing more about this book I’m currently reading, here’s the back cover blurb:
‘Raymond Champs, an illustrator of assembly manuals for a home furnishings corporation, is charged with a huge task: to determine whether the world needs saving. It comes to him in the midst of a losing battle with insomnia—everybody he knows, and maybe everybody on the planet, is suffering from severe clinical depression. He’s nearly certain something has gone wrong. A virus perhaps. It’s in the water, or it’s in the mosquitoes, or maybe the ranch-flavoured snack goes. And what if we are all too sad and dispirited to do anything about it Obsessed as he becomes, Raymond competes an anonymous survey to submit to his unsuspecting coworkers—“Are you who you want to be,” “Do you believe in life after death,” “Is today better than yesterday”—because what Raymond needs is data. He needs to know if it can be proven. It’s a big responsibility. People might not believe him. People, like his wife and boss, might think he is losing his mind. But only because they are also losing theirs.”
Okay—it looks like although this might be a shorter book, it’s definitely not as, um, “simple” as I initially thought it to be. Sounds entertaining nonetheless.👍📖
