🇬🇧BACK IN THE SADDLE. I have been trying to work out for a while now how to proceed on the riding front after Bo’s recovery. After some very light first trials, it became clear that he was okay with it - so we are now restarting our journey under saddle, bitless and with lots of support from the ground. So exciting! However, I also realised that I needed outside support, as I sometimes get overthrown by worry and felt that I was holding him and us back. So I looked for a trainer who is specialised in bitless and soft, positive training, and she came for the second time yesterday and boy, did we ride. I might not have looked like much, but galloping on my unicorn horse for some strides after the last months was incredible. He is doing amazingly good despite the long break, his back is swinging and he is happy to do mischief with me (we had some quite funny moments as well). This showed me two things once again: First of all, the importance of groundwork for stability, fitness and communication, especially in times of recovery - otherwise, he would not able to perform this well already. And secondly and even more importantly: Sometimes, we need help to overcome our own worries or when we feel overwhelmed. This does not make us weak or undermines our own abilities - it’s strong and daring to stand up and say: “Can you help me” I have actually a whole army of people I learn from, turn to for support or training advice - @thewillingequine for training refinement, @stallgassen_design for double lunging, @pantherflows for movement science and @lisaiiir for constant and loving exchange about raising our youngsters, to only name a few. Not to mention the stable family we are so happy to live in, the Instagram community and also to a high extend my coaching clients, who allow me to redefine and grow my training skills with every challenge they bring on. Do you have support Or do you wish to find some Give a shoutout to those who inspire you in the comments, so others can find and learn from them as well! ❤️❤️ #coachingmitpferden #horsesofinstagram #positivereinforcement #perlino #quarter #equestrian #horse #pferd #pferdetraining #ponylove #caballo #bitlessisbeautiful
It’s really important that our little people feel GOOD about themselves & this can only happen when their big people project a positive self image - modelling healthy mind body and spirit & instilling encouraging messages - to ensure that our little ones follow in their footsteps. But these are simply ideals for many, and in the too hard basket for others. For many of us the struggle is REAL. We don’t feel good about ourselves; we have poor body image; and we’re financially stressed. Perhaps we’re going through a break up; the car needs new tyres; we’re drinking our sorrows; we’re sleep deprived; migraine; backache; toothache... I mean, there are a gazillion reasons for not feeling positive and motivated enough to inspire others; particularly our children. For many, life is a daily grind of making ends meet, holding down a job, whilst juggling family and all that goes with it. And even the BEST efforts are not nearly enough for the pressures of modern day living.
So it’s no wonder our children are so unstable. Insecure. Unsettled. Anxious. Non-communicative. Temperamental. Socially- Emotionally incompetent. Disrespectful, and unrepentant. But worst of all - no self belief. No will. Don’t want to try, need help, can’t do it, don’t like it... You do it!
This is an absolute trigger for me. This gives ME anxiety! It is a red flag flapping violently in the wind. Suddenly I am that child’s biggest fan - I’m their very own cheerleader - their number one supporter! I become fastidious in building that child’s self esteem, promoting self-love, positive reinforcement overload.. YOU do it.. I KNOW you can..I BELIEVE in you! Are you doing it ...Omgoodness, you’re doing it yourself...I KNEW you could do it! Were you tricking You said you couldn’t but you CAN! Were you joking! And what a turn around. What a shift. This sombre little unwilling soul, magically turning into a great big wonderful I CAN! It’s the transformation that gets me every time. The evidence so evident, that with the right nourishment, our tamariki can morph from caterpillar to butterfly, right before our very eyes.
These two will never stop annoying each other😂 I had stuff planned and then a massive storm rolled through! It’s currently taken down our power as well
What a great day with the crew @4rkids today!! They are a great group and I can’t wait to come back :) #4rkids #dogtreats
Part of what makes our team so special is the genuine love that we all have for our #k9companions.
Did you know that many dogs who aren't socialized or raised with small children often find them scary or overwhelming Some dogs, such as herding breeds, often struggle with their instincts to herd and nip small children. Where does herding instinct come from It comes from prey drive. And unfortunately, children tend to be loud and have erratic movement, which is similar to animals they would herd or chase. Sango is a little overwhelmed by small children and their fast, noisy movements, so we set up a very structured, controlled environment with my very dog savvy kiddo(she has been gradually getting built up to this point), who sat quietly on his tablet while we helped desensitize her to his quiet presence. Sango was rewarded for gentle investigation, and making the choice to take space on her own, and doing check ins if she felt uncomfortable. She was also given space and a food dispensing toy to give her a constructive, positive outlet for her energy and herding instincts(rolling the toy around to dispense treats). This is helping her gain confidence and learn how to be more settled around children! Good job Sango!

Dogs like Rebus thrive when practicing the MANY cues & tricks he knows. As you can see he has a very thick, sheep like coat. He over heats easily which makes walking in hot weather hard on him. So we visit different parks & woods so we can play games in the environment to physically & mentally stimulate him. He’s a pretty smart guy, so he learns quickly & loves it! Practicing this kind of training with him has only strengthened our bond. To say the least, he’s pretty awesome 🖤
Missie miss taking a well-deserves rest after our workout today. She was an absolute star! Right now I’m trying to help her understand that it’s okay for her to move *forward* while collected. I think she’s really enjoying this and comes to meet me at the gate❤️
Lil man is feeling much better after our clinic we attended over the weekend on musculature!
Found out his left side of his lower jaw was pushed inward and out of place! (And that’s he’s EXTRA flexible... lol he shocked the clinician/vet with how flexible he is 😂) After we got it popped back into place, I’ve never seen a horse act like him before. It was instantly opening his mouth as wide as possible, rotating it, playing with his tongue, sticking it out as far as possible, and constantly nibbling at EVERYTHING.
He was the mouthiest I’ve ever seen him, he just wanted to chew and bite on something lol. He then decided the crop I was hold was sufficient for his need to chew 🤷🏼♀️😆🤦🏼♀️
Just glad he’s fixed and feeling better! We also now know what else we need to start working on to help him develop more. Balance is going to be the bigger areas we will be focusing on next, he doesn’t have much of it 😅 lbh neither do I some days lol

This boi has been retired for almost a year but hasn’t skipped a beat.
It doesn’t matter how long they are out of work for if the training was consistent and precise it will stick with them forever; Good training really sticks 🙏🏻
How cute does he look in this neckrope from @judy_at_medinaa tho!! except his mane covers most of it up hehe
Milli! 💖 My dear friend’s pretty girl. A border collie x Aussie... so to say the least she’s got a lot of energy! We have to stay on leash as her recall around distractions is a work in progress. So we do lots of basic training (“touch” cue!) and urban agility to get this gal the exercise and mental stimulation she needs. So lovely to be introduced to you, Milli 💛💜
Sometimes we can forget how important it can be to have your dog sit when a person is approaching (especially when they are praising them saying how cute they are, etc.) great work and great reminder, @hallie.beth ! .
What other behaviors do you guys like to implement for stranger approaches .

My zoomies are all powerful! They cannot be contained! I laugh at your leash! Ha! ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM! #ohgordon #MomIsAMaypole
Part of the pet dog ambassador program is handling skills and teaching your dog to enjoy being handled all over. Sophie passed this part of her test with flying colors! We love seeing dogs that have learned touching their ears, opening their mouth, and being able to handle them for grooming and vet visits is just not a big deal and they’ll get something yummy like chicken after too 😉 #petdogambassador #positivereinforcement #phoenixdogs #therapydog #fitbark #beagle
When you become someone your horse relies on, when you can help his MIND and his BODY feel good, you help him find the freedom he’s always deserved. Because he no longer has to worry, he just gets to look to you as his favorite friend that knows all the best things to do ❤️
Come learn how to become this person for your horse this weekend and the Intro To Liberty clinic at @zumasrescueranchcolorado! One participant spot remaining and unlimited auditor spaces!
Do you reward yourself for good behavior R+ isn’t just for dogs! One of my high-value treats is plants. So, for example, after doing a pile of boring paperwork, I might drive over to @seedtostem for a new succulent. The positive reinforcement increases the likelihood of my doing paperwork again, maybe sooner and faster next time. (If you’ve seen my desk, you know this is a good thing. 😆)
Also, when I found this tin at @shopcrompton I thought “EVERYONE NEEDS MORE RAINBO CHIPS IN THEIR LIFE”. 🌈 #ammiright #canaldistrict #treasurehunter #worcester #vintage #buddha #positivereinforcement #shoplocal #shopsmall
AROUSAL: How do we manage it
Part One: The Shelter Playgroup Alliance (SPA) developed guidelines to allow safe, healthy play intended to enrich the lives of the dogs in shelters. The recipe for safe and healthy play can vary based on a number of circumstances, and as a result, the SPA guidelines were developed to be flexible for implementation at any shelter. Rather than set specific metrics for play, SPA organizes the guidelines around avoiding high-arousal and providing choice for continued play.

The storm that was brewing up around us gave way for a lot of spice during this session!⛈ This horse is simply incredible.🧡
Well my friends! Officially sent in my entry packet for the Miss Teen Rodeo Arizona Competition on Saturday. I have a feeling this is going to be a wild ride (especially now that my elbow is broken, hurdles are already being thrown my way and we've barely just begun!) but it's all going to be worth it. It's time to get out my shell, and show the wonderful world of positive reinforcement that you CAN do anything a normal horse person would do even if your horse is trained differently than most. Whether that's competing, camping, whatever. YOU. CAN. DO. IT!!! So it is time, to compete with a R+ trained horse!! Who's ready Also, if you're interested in supporting this wild journey I'm embarking on, I have to sell ads. And A LOT of them!! So if you're interested, please please please message me and let me know!!! Thank you to everyone who has made this possible!!
QOTD: If you were to compete using R+, what would you compete in
1. I was actually brave enough to post never before seen pictures of me in makeup on my business page
2. #missrodeoarizona here we come!!
3. I've never gotten as much sleep as I have these past few days than in the entire 16 years of my life.
#mygrumpytown I live in Toronto (if you are local, you drop the last "t" TO-RON+O) 🇨🇦 Over 51% of Toronto residents are born outside or Canada (2011 consensus) and over 180 languages and dialects are spoken. Even though Canada's official languages are English and French, we have dual-language street signs in Little Italy, Little Portugal and Chinatown as well. We have the busiest airport, largest zoo, largest continuous underground shopping mall and largest urban car-free community in Canada.
Some of our nicknames 1️⃣ Hogtown 🐷 Many people think we got this from the city's former reputation for cured bacon, but small towns in our province were using the term long before to reference how we dominated political affairs 😅 2️⃣ T.O/T-dot - Toronto, Ontario 3️⃣ Hollywood North 🎬 We hold TIFF every year in September, one of the biggest international film festivals in the world 4️⃣ YYZ ✈️ our airport area code 5️⃣ 416 📞 the city's original area code 6️⃣ The 6ix 🎶 originated from hip-hop, "the six" refers to the original cities of Toronto, North York, York, Scarborough, Etobicoke and East York .
Day 17 - #train20challenge I'm trying to learn front/back awareness and to put my paws on different target points at the same time 💪 This practice will help me to do tricks like pivoting and walking together with my hooman with my paws on her feet. I keep jumping on the target with all fours or just dangle my paw instead of putting it down on the target 😅
