Yesterday’s myth busting post got me on a language soap box, so let’s talk about some deleterious language this week 🤓 (I also was lazy this past weekend and didn’t record any new videos 😆🤷🏼♂️)
First up is the Nocebo Effect & Nociphobic or negative thought inducing words ☹️
While I’m not on board with the whole light-rainbow-unicorns #positivevibes only yoga (it’s so unrealistic and gives people false hope 🤷🏼♂️ I don’t fluff, nor do I like being fluffed #keepitreal) the nocebo effect is important to note because negative thoughts can negatively impact how you move & your health 😱
No surprise right 😧 it’s the power of imagination.
👉🏻Think you can do something and you’ll likely be able to in some way #fakeittillyoumakeit
👉🏻Think you’re going to fail and of course you’re going to fail! 😟
We in yoga and any movement oriented practice need to be conscious of these kind of words and the impact they can have on us and our students
Here are some examples of how we can nocebo ourselves:
💁🏼♂️“I can’t do Crow pose because I have a weak core”
💁🏼♂️”I’ll never get my knees to the floor in sukasana because my hips are so tight”
💁🏼♂️”I’ll never achieve mindfulness because I can’t meditate for longer than a minute”
Teachers 👨🏼🏫 can big time perpetuate nocebo effect too! Be responsible and mindful of what you say! The smallest negative suggestion can seriously have the biggest impact

Here’s a few more strategies too:
-Actively communicate risky movements/postures
-Create an understanding of the value of what you’re doing
-Coping - sure you may not be able to do this right now, but if it’s really your goal here’s how we can progress to it
-Be authentic & empathetic

Today was my last “official” talk with @mulcahyperformance before Nationals!! It’s amazing the confidence she has helped me gained. We finished our video chat and I felt as though I was ready to race right at that moment! The excitement is real 😊
It’s been really fun diving into the mental side of swimming and taking the things she’s teaching me and doing my best to apply it on a daily basis.
I can’t wait to continue working with her and learning more about ways to strengthen my mental game!

Quando a pessoa tóxica é você!
Na rede social encontramos diversos posts que se referenciam as pessoas tóxicas, muitos com chamados como: “ Fuja, delete, saia de perto das pessoas tóxicas “.
Para termos essa dimensão sobre o outro precisamos primeiramente nos conhecermos. Integrar partes nossas que rejeitamos, sermos menos críticos conosco e com os outros.
É imprudente essa proliferação do afastamento ao outro sem antes darmos conta das nossas responsabilidades.
Os contextos são complexos, não há como usarmos um tom imperativo sem antes conhecermos cada história.
Vou ter dar alguns exemplos de uma pessoa possivelmente tóxica, veja se atende alguns critérios, ou já atendeu:
* Exige demais de si e dos outros;
* Julga a si mesmo e aos outros;
* Se diminui ou diminui os outros;
* Manipula as situações;
* Fala mal de si e dos outros;
* Negativa em relação aos seus resultados;
* Uma pessoa irônica ( agressivo -passivo)
* Ciumento ou invejoso;
* Prefere ter razão ao invés de ouvir outros pontos de vista.
* Deixa de ser quem é para agradar os outros;
* Se importa com a aparência;
* Não suporta a felicidade dos outros e sabota a sua;
* Nunca é grato;
* Fixa no passado.
Você atendeu alguns critérios acima
Você é humano e essa lado que você esconde também precisa ser olhado, enquanto negar esse parte sua “o inferno são os outros” , como disse Sartre.
Colocamos o rótulo de “tóxicas” em pessoas sem considerarmos o lado delas na equação. Se são ações deliberadas ou se conseguiram entender o nosso lado na equação. Essa mentalidade de “nós contra eles” forma uma distorção perigosa para nossas vidas. “O problema é que, na verdade, não gostamos de ver as pessoas tóxicas como seres humanos.” .

It's 3 am and I'm still awake, wondering if you're awake too. I has never happened to in past two years, but today it happened. I cried. I cried when I saw you passing by my house. I wanted you back, I wanted you to look into my eyes like you would. I still wonder if you really did love me like I still do. In case, if you don't know, I still have your red shirt that you once left in the park because mud got spllaterd over it. I know how secretly I've taken it from the place and kept it with me since then. I can still smell you in it. I can feel you beside me.
These days I see you everywhere. Sometimes you end up in my kitchen, holding my favourite sandwich in your hands or I find you at my desk, reading my favourite novel or often you're there somewhere far far away from me, but before I reach, you're gone. I feel alone these day, I feel like death. I hear no sound, it's just air, pulling in and out of me. I'm dead, everything around me is dead. I just see your shadows circling me, I see you everywhere. I see you in me when I stand before the mirror. Today I cried, I cried like a child, I was too stubborn about having you, like a dead is crying over to have life for once more. Today I felt as if graveyard has itself come to my house, and it soon was gonna break the door when I refused to open. For a moment, i felt as if I was gone, you who was inside me was gone. Death was pulling me our of you & it was pulling you out of me. I was afraid that it will take me away from you.
I'm still awake, it's 3 am and there's is someone knocking on my door. And it's not just today, but everyday that someone knocks. The voice coils around my ear like a snake hissing. Sometimes I wonder if it's you, but then sometimes i wonder what if it's death. So, I don't open, but I'm too scared.
