You hear people say "sumo is cheating" "conventional is the only way."... come on man, where's the truth
When it comes to these two different styles of pulling, different set ups will maximally activate different muscles. However, when it comes to the main differences in muscle activity, according to EMG studies, there are mainly just two. In a nutshell:
Sumo deadlifts will put a greater emphasis on the quads (when puling the bar off the floor), compared to a Conventional Style DL.
Conventional deadlifts will put a greater emphasis on the erector spinae (when pulling the bar off the floor), compared to a Sumo Style DL.
Hamstrings/glutes activity results to be about the same.
Personally I think they both are amazing exercises, and that both should be trained. Also, none of them is "easier" than the other, since anatomical differences & differences in muscle strength would play a big part in
