Working with the elderly and Neurological patients has made me understand more why we need to use eccentric and isometric muscle contractions.

Basically, there are three muscle contractions. The three different types of muscular contractions are: Concentric contractions (shorten) Eccentric contractions (lengthen) Isometric contractions (remain the same)

Eccentric exercise focuses on working muscles as they lengthen, and is essential for balance, mobility and physical functions such as walking down stairs or lowering objects to the ground... If your looking for that summer body then you need to work eccentrically... there’s a lot of evidence to suggest it is more effective than typical concentric exercises to achieve a stronger and leaner physique in the shortest period of time!! TIP: Do each squat or bicep curl slowly... then come up slightly quicker.

Training shoulders and triceps. My shoulders didn't lose much strength compared to my tricep when I was unable to train due to my two lat tears and tricep tear. The isometric hold starts to get me in the second set. I have worked back up to 4 sets this week. Using lighter weight, because my tricep and forearm seem easily aggravated with certain exercises and this happens to be one of them. I will go a few more weeks with this weight and slow it down when it gets too easy. I just have to watch adding too much weight too fast. .

Happy Monday!!! I love doing legs on Mondays to start off the week strong- so I thought I’d share one of my frequent leg warm up routines today for ya! You can also totes use this as a leg circuit, certainly doesn’t have to be for warm up! See below to be sore af 🙃 and don’t forget to like + save for later!! Thanks loves🤸🏼‍♂️💕

💜 pose and admire your growing glutes 🍑💁🏼‍♀️ hehehe 💜 lunges with DB + split squat jumps // ouchhh one set is down and back one time // I like to increase the DB weight each set // for every 2 lunges , 2 split squat lunges! Here my d+b (down and back) is about 25-30 yards each way (don’t feel like you have to do that many😅)
💜 reverse lunges with sliders // 10-15 each leg // I use my sliders as much as resistance bands, they’re great for making regular exercises a little more challenging! You can find them at target or amazon, v inexpensive! 👍🏼
💜 sled training // here one set is pushing down and pulling back! // here I also like to increase the weight each set, I start with 25 lb plates and go up to 45 // this is probably one of the easiest ways to quickly burn your quads (in a good way ofc) 🔥🔥

Squat testing today: easy 300, then moved to 315 and lost it in the hole, twice... Didn't attempt 305 because that was my old max back before I started trying to regain strength. I knew I had 290, but nice to get 300 again, and have it be easy (I hit the stupid rack on the way up and I still made it). Shown as 300, 315, 285, 255. I go way too deep, and I need to fix that because I'm losing power... fun stuff 👹👼 .

If you ask anyone what the king of all exercises are, chances are you'll get one of two answers: squats or deadlifts. 💪🏻

Both movements are two of the most effective compound lifts because they involve almost every muscle in your body in some way. They also have a strong hormonal output that puts your body in an anabolic environment which can lead to some serious fat loss and muscle building (more muscle means more calories being burned which means more fat oxidation at rest). 👌

Aside from the obvious muscle building and fat losing benefits of the exercises, both are incredibly functional for overall quality of life. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

While the squats work primarily the quads and glutes... the deadlift works the glutes, hamstrings and back which means both exercises can and should be utilized in an exercise program. 🏋🏻‍♂️

With that being said, both are very technical movements. Please, learn the movement properly, keep your ego at the door, and do the movements with proper form on an empty bar or light dumbbells before adding some serious weight. Form>reps and weight any day. 🏋🏻‍♂️

Played around with a low & wide stance on the leg press & imma fan 🔥 Studies show by having a wide stance it will also put a greater emphasis on the VMO, the inner quad. Although a wide stance is great to engage the hamstrings & glutes, by being in a fixed position & having my feet low this lit up my vmo!

With this type of stance, be strategic & smart. I wouldn’t use this for an all out balls to the wall heavy type of lift but rather an eccentric lift. This way I can really engage & feel the muscle work & not have to use all the weights in the gym.

During the press, keep the knees aligned with the toes. Don’t let the knees get pushed out & away from the toes or pushed to far inside the toes causing the knees to collapse in. Keep it nice & tight & aligned with the toes. I really felt the vmo engage by doing this!

Played around with a low & wide stance on the leg press & imma fan 🔥 Studies show by having a wide stance it will also put a greater emphasis on the VMO, the inner quad. The Importance of Working Out Your Calf Muscles

Your calves consist of two muscles: the gastrocnemius and the soleus. The heart-shaped gastrocnemius makes up the bulk of your calf. Beneath this muscle is the fan-shaped soleus. The fibers of these muscles attach to the Achilles tendon, which connects to the heel bone. When these muscles contract, they lift your heels and shift your weight to the balls of your feet.

The Role of Calf Muscles

Running or cycling requires propulsion to move the body forward. When you use your calf muscles to lift your heels, it’s a key stage of propulsion. For this reason, athletes in aerobic sports aim to develop strong calf muscles. The calf muscles also play an important pumping role in venous circulation. When your calf muscles contract, they compress the veins within the muscles and force the blood to flow upward and toward the heart. When your calf muscles relax, the veins in the muscles refill with blood from surrounding veins. The calf muscle pump is often called the peripheral heart,
