A powerful proclamation in so many ways. I have had the experience on many occasions of sharing with a woman about aspects of her that I find beautiful and inspiring and having her really quickly respond with some version of, “What you see in me is just a mirror for the beauty that you are.”

Claiming yourself as a queen, claiming your skills, your talents, your quality of unique beauty, is not vanity.
.
Deflecting aspects of yourself that you actually hold very close to your heart, parts of you that are immensely important to you by pretending that you had nothing to do with them can result in a watering down of your blaze.

And it’s ok to blaze, to shine it bright, to share it, to allow yourself to be seen. And it is ok to claim it. Try it. Tell me how it feels.

It’s ok if loving yourself doesn’t come easy. It’s ok if it takes work. Lots and lots of work. It’s ok if sometimes it feels hard to be kind to yourself, let alone love yourself. It’s also ok to not try and fix yourself, because you - YES YOU - are not a “thing” that needs fixing. ⠀

Today, here’s what loving myself looked like:⠀
• spending too much time scrolling on my phone at 6am this morning, not wanting to get out of bed, and nagging myself about it and then gently recanting the harsh words and letting out a big sigh because dark mornings in the winter are hard and I’m only human⠀
• bringing lunch to work because I knew I had back-to-back patients from 8am-3:30pm and then getting hungry at 10:30am and eating all the food I brought, leaving me hungry (ahem, HANGRY) by 1pm - then nicely asking my co-worker if I could eat some of the homemade gf bread she brought to work, which saved my day⠀
• having an unexpected break in my afternoon and treating myself to a matcha latte at a cafe that is the “cool kids cafe” and feeling naked and lame because I didn’t have a book or anything with me “to do” and yet I stayed and took up space doing nothing and chilled the eff out for a while⠀
• getting a facial - bc pampering is sometimes the best medicine there is⠀

I signed up for a modern calligraphy class at this new art teaching space near me (@allhandsworkshops) and I'm so excited about it.
.
I've taken calligraphy before but it didn't click. This time it feels like it is clicking. The instructor (also the owner!) has this great permissive style. She's encouraging us to find the shapes of letters that we love, and then practice those shapes as our drills.
.
I has this moment in the first class, where I was like, "Wait, what? I can find my own shapes? I can find my own style?" Because my heart is always at war in this space.
.
I want to follow the rules. I want to be liked. I want to "get it right." But also, I want so much to do my own things, follow my heart, find my own joy. And as a mom and a woman, that's not something I feel like I get a lot of permission for. You might look at my life and think I follow the beat of my own heart a lot, but that path has been hard-won, and I still doubt myself a lot.
.
If you yearn for you own path, too, I just want to say - keep reaching for it. Find a teacher who will encourage you to try something different, and even if it is really uncomfortable, try it anyway. Be gentle with yourself when the safe path calls you back, but keep practicing that stepping off of it.
.
Just like a calligraphy drill to learn the shape of letters, you can't make your life into a different shape unless you practice, practice, practice..

I’ve heard many women over the years say that sex has hurt for them, and that “it’s normal” for it to hurt sometimes. 
THIS. IS. NOT. TRUE.

Why do so many women experience #painduringsex ?

Well, unfortunately there’s not a lot of research dedicated to this topic, especially compared to studies performed for male conditions (often 5-6x the amount of research dedicated to women’s health). Chronic conditions like #endometriosis #dyspareunia and #vulvodynia may eventually be diagnosed and treated. Yet, the average time to receive a diagnosis like this can be up to 10 years! Yes, often women experience chronic pain during sex for 10 years before being being properly treated for it. OUUUUCH. Aside from the research and lack of knowledge on providers’ parts, women are often dismissed in doctors visits, as these conditions are not in many providers comfort zones to treat or refer out to specialists. Women feel nervous to bring up such an intimate and uncomfortable topic, and then are often not believed. (((Side rant: I was recently told by a male urologist that I “must be making symptoms up” because my symptoms didn’t fit exactly into his box of #interstitialcystitis . Lord.))) Aside from chronic conditions, many women experience more mild or fleeting pain that can come and go with sex. This is very difficult to narrow down and is normalized in sex for women, because there isn’t much #sexeducation out there. 
Some things that may help with arousal, lubrication, and pleasurable sex:

The average amount of time it takes a woman to be fully aroused can be up to 35 minutes! This means #moreforeplay gentleman. Arousal fluid can be lower at certain times of the month, when estrogen is lower. Overall hormonal balance is key and women should be checking their hormones frequently. 
Arousal for women is also often mental! Slowing down, feeling control and choice, and having communication throughout may be what’s needed to navigate the discomfort as a team. 
Advocate for yourself if you experience pain during sex!! 💕

Had coffee this morning. Finally eating lunch at 1 today. Some leftover roast, two eggs, the teensiest amount of cheese, guac and some salsa. Scale went up again this morning. Trying to stay the course and resist the urge to cut my fats/calories. I think that’s part of the problem... I’ve been restricting my calories, the eating like an asshole and I think my body is just really confused. Going to try to avoid foods with added crap (sugar, general junk) even if they’re technically low carb and just stick with this for a few more weeks at least. It's okay for you to take up space. Make room for every expression of you. 
Have you ever been told that you're too <blank> ... much to handle
... sensitive
... bossy
... loud
... outspoken
... stubborn
... quiet
... weak
... emotional
.... (what else?) and you decided that it's better to not be any of these qualities? 
Have you ever had someone treat you in a way that you didn't prefer and you vowed to never be like that?

Maybe they were rude, inconsiderate, a jerk, a bitch, or they neglected you, abandoned you, or something else.

What you likely did was go to the other extreme. So not only did you decide that you can't be what you or others have judged as unacceptable, you strove to make up for it by being more of the opposite.

It's more that when you do things that are aligned and coherent, others may not like it and they will judge you. Can you be okay with that? Are you willing to continue to take up space and make room for you and what's important?

Now that that’s out of the way, what do you guys think of vitamins and supplements?

I’m generally of the belief that we have kidneys and a liver and a whole internal system meant to “cleanse” and “detox” us and that when you pump yourself full of vitamins and shakes and special tea that all you’re actually getting is really expensive urine.
•
However, since being drinkers does compromise our liver and other organs meant for #detox it makes sense to me that we might need to give them a bit of extra support during early recovery.
•
About 7 years ago I was having a massage and was told that the masseuse could feel my liver because it was swollen 🤨🙈. He recommended I start on milk thistle which I did immediately with good results. Not only was my liver less swollen when I returned but I also lost a good amount of weight.( I also stopped drinking and was very careful with my nutrition).
•
So I’m taking another round of #milkthistle now.
•
I’ve also read that drinkers deplete other important vitamins and minerals like folate, B6, thiamine, and vitamin A.
•
So I’m thinking after the milk thistle perhaps I’ll try to replenish some of those too.
•
Just another step on the road to recovery.

The sooner you implement these tiny but effective as f*ck changes in your daily schedule, you're not going to believe how much less pissed off / resentful / narked you feel by the end of each day. It's amazing how we think that powering through the HELLFIRE of each day, struggling & pushing through the pain of doing too much... is an achievement. It may feel like you're making progress in the micro, but in the bigger picture? You NEED a daily recovery & release from your jam-packed calendar to just breathe & reset your ability to hustle. Any employer that doesn't understand that, is a C*NT. But instead of blaming them, we can take control of our own sh*t and protect ourselves from their desire to munch through our time like it's cheesy fries. Because you're the only person who can stand up for yourself in life girl, so don't be scared to do that from Monday. It will be a hard shift to make, but it will serve you a new-found energy & love for your job. Immediately.

It’s what you do before (or after) you fight for people with less power than you. Before you redistribute your resources. After you’re done surviving a day in a society that tries to break you down. How long do people usually spend in each energy state, or ‘soul mode’? Well that depends on a couple of things. One of them is how much you’re able to give yourself what you’re craving at the time. Right now I’m cycling at one mode per day! It’s quite a ride. This pic was me last night, all sparkly but starting to turn a little wild. I’ve woken up at 6am with that wild energy starting to build. It’s all a roller coaster, but surrendering to the ride and letting yourself enjoy it, it feels so much better than clinging to the handle with white knuckles and trying to pull the cart in another direction. Partnered or not, today is a great to focus on self love ✨ Shifting the focus of Valentine’s Day to ourselves helps reframe this day in a positive way and helps us walk away from the negative feelings that can be associated with this day. Aiden and I were talking last night and deciding if we wanted to do anything special today, and instead of doing typical V Day activities we decided to each choose one big act of self love that we can do for ourselves. My choice? To meditate on and release all of the pent up anxiety, feelings of guilt, and worry about my business. With everything going on I haven’t been able to devote much time to blog writing, sharing here on IG, and working on my new website, and that’s been giving me alllll kinds of feelings. I’m absolutely guilty of attaching my worth to my work, so today is an exercise in release and self-love.

Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects of the day, I encourage you to turn inward and ask yourself what you REALLY need right now. It may not come to you right away, and it may not be the answer you expect. When you’ve connected to your intuition and have an answer, make a plan to give your body and mind what it needs today. That could mean:
✨ taking a walk on your lunch break to get outside and disconnect from screens
✨ cooking yourself a really good dinner containing all of your favorite foods
✨ sitting down and meditating for 30 minutes to release anxiety
✨ creating art in any form, there are no rules! Do what feels right
✨ unfollowing people on IG that make you feel like shit about yourself
✨ walk away from a habit that’s not serving you anymore
✨ ask for help and support where you need it
✨ buying yourself a new face mask and using it while taking a bath
✨ taking an Epsom salt bath to replenish magnesium and relax muscles

I’m so grateful for this community of bad ass people! Today makes me remember why self-love is so important; when we take care of ourselves we have SO much more we can pour into others. What are you going to do today to practice self-love?

I’m not really one to celebrate Valentine’s Day as I don’t believe that buying gifts and consuming for the sake of it is a good way to show our love to others. But - having said that - I think it’s a good opportunity to check in with yourself and those you love. Remind yourself how much you love yourself. And tell your friends, your mum, your partner, a stranger, just how much you love them.

What if everyday were Valentine’s Day and rather than reserving just one day of the year to celebrate such affection we devoted each day to more LOVE? Would that not be a radical act, if we claimed the intention to love everyday… Embraced a #LoveEthic … love your neighbor and your neighbors’ neighbors … no such thing as other people’s people, and all that LOVE means! AND what if that true affection actually began with loving ourselves, not just the smooth, pretty, socially acceptable parts that we think are lovable or that others praise us for. What if we considered, just for a moment, loving all parts of ourselves (I know, crazy, right?!)? Love is a big word. Loving is a big request. Self love seems even bigger still. I mean, where do we even start with that? What does self love even look like in the daily round and on your TO DO list? How do we put self-love into practice? Love is how we will protect ourselves from the virus of negative self talk and messages bombarding and cluttering our minds. Self love is like the protection of wonder woman bracelets, impenetrable armor, and your best friend by your side all wrapped up in one. In fact, your self-love toolkit is unique to you just like mine is unique to me. We have to discover what works for us individually, in all of our strange wonderfulness. This is that Mary Oliver style “let the soft animal of your body love what it loves” kind of love. It’s all for you and about you and only you know it because only you feel it.
The kind of self-love I’m talking about means loving ALL PARTS of ourselves and most especially the parts outside of other people’s comfort zones because this is your you-est, you-ness. This is your acorn, as James Hillman calls it. Your acorn represents your essential soul-self that has always been with you and is forever enduring no matter how scuffed and buried and neglected and abused and forgotten. This happens so easily in the accumulation of a lifetime of responsiveness and duties and roles, lost in the noise and detritus. (Cont. below. 👇🏽)

This is that Mary Oliver style “let the soft animal of your body love what it loves” kind of love. It’s all for you and about you and only you know it because only you feel it. The kind of self-love I’m talking about means loving ALL PARTS of ourselves and most especially the parts outside of other people’s comfort zones because this is your you-est, you-ness. This is your acorn, as James Hillman calls it. Your acorn represents your essential soul-self that has always been with you and is forever enduring no matter how scuffed and buried and neglected and abused and forgotten. This happens so easily in the accumulation of a lifetime of responsiveness and duties and roles, lost in the noise and detritus. (Cont. below. 👇🏽)

I’ve been taking care of me this week. I have been working super extra, and sometimes it feels like at all hours.
