So exciting to see this progress! Check out pre-stabilization photos from @cincyphil in our feed in April. @structural_systems is a great partner. The @city_of_cincinnati & Hamilton County Landbank are funding the project. #ThePortImpact #Repost @structural_systems with @get_repost
Our team is working to restore the Rubel House on Reading Rd., designed by renowned architect Samuel Hannaford. Among the vast scope of work, we’re rebuilding the front porch, which includes recreating the historic timbers and saving the original corbels. #ToughJobsDoneWell
@eshorelandc spoke with contractors from Athens (GA) based NawKaw this morning. They are currently staining the new bricks before being installed, with the goal of matching the existing color palette of the iconic smokestacks. For more on this project, please visit the link in my bio!

Mold is something that every homeowner hopes to avoid, but hoping doesn’t prevent it from invading any structure and potentially creating all sorts of issues for the people who live there – everything from headaches to nausea to allergic reactions and respiratory problems. The problem with mold is this: the only things that toxic spores need to grow and thrive are the right balance of temperature and moisture, plus a source of food. That means mold can easily grow on a wide variety of surfaces in your home if they’re given enough time under those warm, moist conditions.

Masonry week at Thornfield is hot, painful, fun, stressful, tedious, and rewarding. This kitchen door, installed sometime between 1898 and 1905, will again be the window it was in 1800.
We're moving the window currently between the dining and sun rooms, original and barely ever exposed to the elements, to where the door is. I'm taking apart the window, piece by piece to the frame box, and relocating it! In it's place will be a fixed hopper window until we find the perfect stained glass or something.
This also mitigates a couple big cracks that formed in the stone wall above the door - which formed because of the door! All that stone is being laid back in place and reinforced. Right now, you can see the sun through the crack in the plaster from the inside!
Max finished pointing the stone feature wall and I finished leveling the ceiling joists in the office (for new plaster). That's Max telling me I'm #1 through the hole in the kitchen wall.
Big thanks to Ron and Max (best father/son team in masonry) for helping with this scary awesome phase of work!

Another country house in Co. Mayo being reclaimed by nature. Clogher House in Co. Mayo was built in the 1770’s and existed for nearly 200 years until it was destroyed by fire in 1970. This house and estate was once part of a community of 'Big Houses' that included the Moores of nearby Moore Hall and the Blakes of Towerhill House. Originally a smaller house when first built, it was as a result of a storm in January 1839 that resulted in a number of changes being made to the structure. The roof of the mansion was torn off in the storm known as ‘The Big Wind’. As Clogher was left roofless, it was an opportunity that was grasped to remodel the house, add another story and a new roof. In 1844 Samuel Nicholson described Clogher House as "amongst the largest and the best in the Country, and appears to be kept in excellent order". Clogher was once the home to James FitzGerald Kenney, Cumann na nGaedheal TD for South Mayo 1927-1944 and Minister for Justice 1927-1932. He had inherited Clogher through his mother’s family and made it his home until his death in 1956. In 1967, the contents of the house were offered for sale at auction which including the contents of the library that extended to over 3,000 books together with both Celestial and Terrestrial globes. The house was sold at this time to a timber merchant. Unfortunately in January 1970, Clogher House was destroyed in a fire and at the time stood on 200 acres having once been surrounded by a demesne of 640 acres. Despite the efforts of fire brigades from Claremorris and Ballinrobe the house was reduced to ruins. Clogher was unoccupied at the time having been looked after by a caretaker who lived nearby. The photograph of the house in the 1960’s is from the Facebook page of ‘Lost Buildings of Ireland’ who credit it to William Fitzgerald Kenney. #ruin #abandoned #derelict #mayo #clogher #irishcountryhouses #irishcountryhouse #architecture #history #irishhistory #ireland #wildatlanticway #restoration #renovation #carnacon
