So this book is about getting over death, forgiving oneself, a road trip and relationships. But what really got me thinking was this character's love for for art. Lucian, a rich guy with unsupportive parents, is into topiaries. Topiaries, for those of you who don't know, is the art or practice of clipping shrubs or trees into ornamental shapes. .
“But I can’t believe you can do this. It’s amazing.”
“It’s just a hobby,” he said, following along a few steps behind me as I walked around, watching my expression as I looked at all of them.
“This isn’t a hobby,” I said. “It’s like you’re a sculptor. You should be proud of these.”
Here's the thing: Once upon a time, I loved creating. I loved making crafts. I used to save up wrapping papers from presents received and pens with no ink, scraps of chart paper left over from a school project and thermocol sheets and cardboard boxes in which shoes and electronics came in. Why did I do that Cuz I had an idea. Making a pen stand from old pens, a little teddy bear from newspapers, a personal notebook from scrap papers.
I saved stuff because I liked to recycle. Not because my textbooks dictated that but because I saw an opportunity in everything. Why then, when I have a used pen and my instinct is to save it like a precious jewel, does the thought, "Unproductive!", hit my brain like a loud doorbell
Somewhere along the line, to focus on "more important things" like career and relationships, the things which I once loved doing became "unproductive".
When the desire to create knocks on my door, I ignore it. Doorbells are louder, and "Unproductive!" is ringing it.
And I don't think I'm the only one who's forgotten to be proud of "hobbies". #FinishedReading #AmyRogersEpicDetour by #MorganMatson

words can’t describe this place. we drove the whole night [email protected]the amalfi coast to the tuscany to be here for sunrise. and it was all more than worth it.
but here are some facts this beautiful pic is not showing u. just in case you wanna visit: - the water is full of leechs. they’re everywhere so you might be a snack - it really stinks. the whole area smells like bad eggs. as soon as you’re in the water it’s not that bad anymore but before sometimes it’s really disgusting. - take of your jewellery it gets black. - don’t put on a white bathing suit or bikini. it will be orange afterwards. - and last but not least. it’s really really hard to take a good picture. even if you’re coming at 6:30 am
but it’s sooooo wonderful anyway. besides this few points it’s one of the most amazing natural places i’ve ever been and we’ve been in the water for more than 3 hours.
and now it’s time for coffe. oh yeah
