Maple glazed powerhouse salmon is one of my favorite ways to eat salmon. Something about the combination of the sweetness of maple syrup and saltiness of tamari (or soy sauce) just works amazingly well.
Plus, my powerhouse spice combination of turmeric, black pepper, garlic and ginger not only imparts a fantastic flavor but it boosts the nutritional value of this dish.

Salmon is the best fish for weight loss.
One of the biggest food helpers on the path to weight loss is protein -- preferably lean protein, which is better for the heart and overall health.
The simple explanation is that a good dose takes longer to digest than carbohydrates, keeping you satisfied and therefore making you less likely to overeat between meals. It doesn’t hurt that the body burns more calories digesting proteins than it does carbs. 🐟
But the intriguing thing about fish as your protein source -- salmon, in particular -- is that preliminary reports suggest salmon plays a role in modulating insulin levels or insulin sensitivity.
The key word here is preliminary. Still, two reports bear mentioning. In one 2009 study, scientists fed three groups of volunteers low-calorie diets: no seafood (the control group), lean white fish or salmon.
Everyone lost weight, but the salmon eaters had lower fasting insulin levels, which is far better for overall health. Weight loss is one partial explanation, researchers say, but the compounds in salmon (perhaps omega 3 fats like EPA and DHA) might also contribute to modulating insulin.
Wild salmon is leaner than farmed. It contains plenty of protein minus unhealthy fats. Three ounces of cooked wild salmon contains 155 calories, 22 grams of protein and just 7 grams of fat, most of it the heart-healthy omega 3 variety.
Moved Tuesday grilling to Wednesday this week!
Barbecue shrimp and sockeye salmon kabobs paired with zucchini, yellow squash, and green pepper!
Special thanks to @rastellimarket for the shrimp, @zalliesown for the sockeye salmon, & @bedbathandbeyond for the adorable dish!
What I ate Wednesday...well, this was actually Sunday, but bear with me as I try to get in the groove with some deliberate posts that just might have a catchy theme.
It might surprise you that I ordered the meal at Sunday brunch which included the BIG bagel! A Dietitian eating a BAGEL 😳!
It tasted as good as it looks, and was the perfect delivery device for that omega-3 loaded salmon, pickled tomatoes and all the rest. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Spoiler alert - I didn’t eat the whole thing, and I didn’t feel like I was missing out by not doing so. Here’s my point- healthy eating is all about balance. It’s taken me A LOT of years to allow myself the freedom to make choices like this, and I hope it’s encouraging for you to hear that it’s perfectly normal and healthy to let yourself enjoy the foods you love, even if they’ve been blacklisted by the latest fad diets.
You shouldn’t panic when it comes to restaurant eating, and you shouldn’t feel the need to restrict yourself. That NEVER ends well. Instead, make reasonable choices that will allow you to enjoy the food you enjoy, and engage with whoever or whatever it is you might be celebrating. Give yourself the freedom in the moment, and move on without the guilt or shame.

Salmon for dinner is always a good call 😍 There’s no dinner I enjoy more than a crispy piece of salmon with crispy cauliflower gnocchi 😎 Sometimes I switch it up with a fun pizza but most of the time I go with the basics 🤷🏼♀️ It’s simple to make + sooo tasty 👌🏻 I used leftover gnocchi so this meal took only 10 minutes to throw together 💯 -
Eli is finally on the cauliflower gnocchi train which is a good/bad thing- good because then we can eat the same dinner but bad because then I have to share 😜 Going to have to start buying double bags so we have more to go around 😉 I’ve been loving simple flavors on my salmon lately- just a little salt and pepper with a little garlic on top 🙌🏻 Simple is best sometimes 🤗 Hope you guys had a good day! -
#healthyfood details 👉🏻 1 piece of salmon sprinkled with pink Himalayan salt, pepper, and garlic powder cooked over medium heat in avocado oil for 3-4 mins on each side (wait until the pan is hot), paired with sautéed kale, mashed avocado, and @traderjoes cauliflower gnocchi
