My father last year before he died of lung cancer , lettering a boat he was a #signpainter for 44 years ! I come from a long line of skilled tradesmen the 2nd and 3rd photos are my grandfather and father in 1975 at work in #newjersey they were #signpainters my grandfather taught my dad the trade when he was 17 and dad took over the family business , my grandfather started the business in 1936 in the Philadelphia /south jersey area and during the #greatdepression business was so good for him that he was driving a new car then not many could say that then! he was born in 1904 during #ww2 he had contracts with the government and painted numbers and lettering on all the battleships in the old #philadelphiashipyard ! My father never wanted me to pursue a career as a sign painter because he said it was a dying trade and didn’t want me to struggle to find work if business had stayed good I’d prolly of been a sign painter not a #barber my dad refused to do vinyl ! All thru the 80s and 90s we had a very good life dads business was very profitable I never wanted for anything growing up ! Also my great great grandfather was #peterjmcguire he was a labor leader in the 1800s ! he founded the #carpentersunion in America in the 1880s and started the #laborday holiday we celebrate in America he was also part of starting #mayday he was part of the #SocialDemocraticWorkingmensPartyofNorthAmerica and their goal was to achieve socialism in America thru organization of a socialist party and the organization of trade unions I’m glad they did not achieve this ! he’s also responsible for why there is an 8 hour work day ! He was a socialist #marxist my political views are total polar opposites of his this just shows you that blood and political beliefs and family beliefs don’t always mix his blood is running in my veins but I have a totally different political belief system than him ! I’m very proud of his work ethic tho and I get my work ethic from all three of these men ! My family all thru time have been skilled tradesman or military officers I’m also a decendant of the Viking leader #Rollo duke of Normandy! #barber #masterbarber #tradesman #oneshotpaint #signs #trucklettering
Got to peep @coopertypewest students’ final projects (creating a full fledged & functional typeface from scratch) and this was my absolute faaaaaave—for many and obvious reasons 😆 but also, it’s so clean, harmonious, and fun af! Congrats & you killed it Kel! 👏🏼✨👏🏼
#alwayshandpaint - 2016 sign painting project we painted for the @cubs at the historic Wrigley Field.
Painted this logo for our friends at @saintsimoncoffee yesterday! They have been one of our favorite coffee shops in town since we moved here and lived right down the street! Thanks for the support as always #saintsimon
I tried to #quit using #gloves a while ago and I missed them terribly. I've been told by multiple painters, whom I respect, to lose them, but I love the feel and grip they add. Without them, the smooth lacquered handles almost feel like they'll slip from my fingers. Brush is a Mack 5/8" Flat 1992 Superior Lettering series with the gold tip.
Just finished this gild at @poormouchette in the Jewelry District of downtown Portland! They have an amazing selection of antique and Victorian jewelry and are super nice. ✨💍✨23k gold burnished outlines with lemon gold matte centers. Thanks for the recent support in gold leaf jobs!
We've only been in our new studio about two months and already can't find our tools, feels like home. If you're around this Saturday come join us for the opening of @kelllygolden show @electro_pepper gallery. It's gonna be groovy ✌️
