I had a very successful career in corporate America. I started at the bottom of the ladder and worked my way up as high as I could go. I loved my career, loved the company I had been with for seven years but knew I needed more.
More freedom and flexibility to explore my potential. Freedom to design my schedule, be available to be with and travel with my family, be my own boss and most importantly, freedom to take ownership in the future of my business.
After the birth of my second child, I quit my job in corporate and began to explore my options to go out on my own. I tried a couple of businesses but they didn’t have the right elements for long-term success.
The main element missing from them was marketing. So I dove into that headfirst to learn everything I could about what marketing elements a business needs to succeed.
A few years into my business, I was experiencing major success. I had a roster of amazing clients, my bank account was fat and happy, ...and I was working myself to the bone. The struggle of running a successful and thriving business alone was taking its toll on me. I was getting sick, working 10 hour days, working every single weekend, and putting out fires by myself. I had to stop taking new client consults because I was drowning in work.
I took a long hard look at where I wanted to be and rediscovered why I got into entrepreneurship in the first place: flexibility and freedom. Not being tied to my laptop on vacation and taking client calls while on a family outing.
So I expanded. I brought on a team of professionals in their space to allow me to stay in my zone of genius and to get back to the work I loved to do. The work that didn’t ever feel like work!
And I got back to building a business without compromising on anything important to me.
✨No more 60+ hour workweeks.
✨Back to the gym regularly.
✨Family time evenings and weekends.
✨A consistent revenue stream that continues to grow!
✨The time to dream and proactively grow my business instead of working for it.
If it’s time for you to expand your business by outsourcing your strategy and growth and partnering with a professional marketer, let’s talk (link in bio)
Anyone else have to constantly remind themselves to BE PATIENT One of my favorite quotes (@gretchenrubin ) is, “The days are long, but the years are short”. In the rear view mirror, two years seems like an instant. But thinking about 2 years in the future Working on a project for 2 YEARS Building something for TWO YEARS It seems like a lifetime. In the process of building my little side business, that’s how long it took me to really hit my stride. A long time. And now that I’m here... I can see that it can continue to grow and develop in wonderful, beautiful ways... all while helping KIDS. 💜 I’ve had to be patient and trust that it would work out... I’m so glad I stuck it out.
This home had beautiful finishes. Parade of Homes -Grand Rapids.
These were some of my wife’s favorite spaces.

I think it’s time that I brought back #TipTuesday for self-employment and small business tips so you can get your work done and make your dream job a reality... Like a Boss. Deadlines are a tricky thing when you work for yourself because you make them up! Yes, of course your client tells you what day something needs to go to print by or go live by, but all the other dates in between are entirely up to you. Make deadlines that are realistic so that you consistently reach them without fail, building a strong trust between you and your clients. One missed deadline can mean a complete loss of their business so it’s much better to build in some buffer time then trying to impress them by setting near impossible due dates. Building out action steps in between big deliverables and sending your client a timeline will show them that you’re dedicated to their project. Outlining many phases in a 2 month period looks like your working a heck of a lot faster than of your client just assumes there’s only one final deadline 2 months away. Building out a timeline shows your clients how invested you are and has the added benefit of keeping you on track internally too! Now go out and conquer your week, and try sending out a timeline of action steps next time you kickoff a project! .

Every small business should have a email list. One of the most used tool for marketing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nearly 70% of people in the US have made a purchase influenced by a company email. According to Radicati Group, more than 3.7 billion people worldwide use email. That’s almost 54% of the world’s population! Data from Pew Research also shows that 92% of adults in the United States use email, and 61% of these email users are checking and sending emails on an average day.
Not only does email marketing allow you to take advantage of the prospect of reaching a large group of people, but this medium can also offer benefits that other digital marketing tactics can’t provide. Email marketing allows you to personalize your messaging and tailor messages based on customer actions.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So why doesn't your business have an email list again 🤔

Tax and Tacos 🌮 as much as I love my creative projects and side hustles it makes it super daunting and confusing when it comes to tax time 📆 but thanks to this event I’m feeling a lot more prepared and informed 🧾✏️👌
Working from home certainly has it’s benefits (especially on sunny days in the garden!) but it can, at times, feel isolating.
I often work in local cafes where I find other business owners also working remotely (our free, makeshift office!).
Getting out of the house and seeing real people is often enough to avoid me feeling isolated...plus, I am big fan of coffee! ☕️
For more ways to avoid isolation from working from home, check out the link in my bio. 🙌🏻

Hello Loves! It’s that time again...homework. I’ve been asked on numerous occasions how do I work full time (and yes I’m busy at work), have my family, run my business, and attend school Simple - I have a dream of a better life. It is accomplished through time management, Jesus, prayer, late nights, and coffee! Is it easy, NO!! Everyone has 24 hours in a day. We all make choices. Some are good while others are questionable. We learn from life experiences. Follow your dreams! What are your hearts desires you have placed on the back burner Turn that dream into reality! It starts with a plan that’s executed. (FYI, don’t buy granola, make your own.) I was so happily surprised to know that an Etsy order went to @brainstormingthecastle today! This is one of her favorite quotes and I can’t help but resonate with it as well! I too have changed careers and I wonder daily if I’ve done the right thing. Between working full time, doing the sign thing full time and being a full time grad student... IM SCARED... and STRESSED. But my thing has always been, “you’ll never know if you don’t try”... when you first make a big change it’s scary, it’s stressful and can leave you with fear- it takes a lot to go the extra mile... but if you don’t, you’ll never know what’s on the other side❤️
Repost from @brainstormingthecastle using @RepostRegramApp - When I first decided to leave my corporate gig, I printed a graphic with this quote on it and taped it to the wall in our bathroom next to the mirror so I could start every day with this thought in my mind. A few weeks ago my husband presented me with this handpainted sign by @grove_street_press as an anniversary gift (what can I say, he gets me ☺️). As entrepreneurs, we put ourselves out there time and time again, knowing that we might fall, but it’s the chance of flying that keeps us coming back for more. If you have a favorite quote or mantra that keeps you going, I’d love for you to leave it in the comments. •

Sometimes you’ve just got to let the professionals do what they’re good at and when it comes to photography @amelia.acesnaps is as her name suggests ACE!
I have been putting off having corporate shots done for so long, I mean who honestly likes having their photo taken 🤦♀️ but actually it really wasn’t that bad, almost fun!!
Amelia was amazing and basically didn’t ask me to pose once she just snapped away while I semi worked and I really like the results, so thank you Amelia. You made what is usually a really cringy and shiver inducing experience a walk in the park!
As a small business owner, every success and failure can feel deeply personal. Don’t forget to treat your setbacks for what they are: learning moments that you can grow from. #madewithanimoto
I don't post enough reviews from my clients. Perhaps i should.
Honest customer feedback is the absolute backbone and lifesource for any small business.
Kylie and family had reached out to me at the start of the year with one goal - to save money on their existing home loan.
Happy faces all round.
Checking out a new pie/coffee/milkshake joint in the inner west.
@piethiefpies opened last Saturday with little fanfare. Our local Facebook Buy, Swap & Sell group gave it a big boost of exposure but I only had time to check it out this weekend.
Who else but my partner in crime, Baby J and my loving wife, who tagged along, for some afternoon snacks.
Chatted with a few locals who were ordering and they said the pies and coffee are really good.
We had a bacon and egg pie, vanilla slice and a peanut butter milkshake.
Have you been there yet What's your favourite pie or drink
Meeting an ex-ATO debt case officer for a coffee catch up today.
A fair amount of my clients have ATO debt, and they're often embarrassed by it, and aren't aware of the options they have.
We'll appear on a a Facebook Live video soon. So watch this space.

We had family visiting us from Singapore this fortnight gone.
First time in ten years.
Something my wife and I don't have time for any more, is cooking. With three kids - and Baby J hanging off her most days - we simply haven't got the time to cook proper meals.
It's beautiful to sit down to a home-cooked meal, prepared by family. Bit of Australian-Chinese, bit of Singaporean-Chinese.
As immigrants, we are fortunate to be given a new life here, carving out my family business, building my community page @humans.of.sky, supporting my wife's career choices and watching our kids grow.

Get to know your BDM (Business Development Manager) and Lender! Today, Macquarie Bank and Eliza Mead.
I began my career in banking in early 2010. I completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne majoring in non-fiction writing directly after high school, before getting my first full time job in the call centre at ME Bank. 📱
The day I handed in my final assignment at university my folks said “it’s time to apply for a full time job”. I always wanted to work in an industry that’s growing like the finance sector, and I greatly enjoyed working in various roles at ME Bank before joining their broker sales channel in 2013. It was here that I found my real passion for working in business development and relationship creation and management. 📱
I left ME Bank in 2016 and began working for a Non-Bank called Liberty Financial, which opened my eyes to the wide range of lending solutions outside of the box. I am very excited to have recently joined the BDM team at Macquarie in February, and am loving representing a lender who has customer service at the forefront of all of its processes and products. 📱Macquarie’s motto of “I Bank with Macquarie” instils a sense of pride for all of its staff and customers, and it’s not uncommon to walk into the Macquarie office to see staff wearing their “I Bank with Macquarie” t-shirts by choice! 📱
Now for some quirky facts about me… 📱- My favourite movie is Jurassic Park (and the 1993 original still stands up today!) 📱 - A natural follow on is that I think dinosaurs are awesome 📱- I also love Lego and am often the cool adult at family events as I will build Lego with my cousins’ kids for hours (at a recent family event I’d been at for several hours my Grandma said “you’ve been too busy playing Lego to say hi to Grandma”) 📱- I like to think I am a positive person and as my Great Uncle Des used to say “Everyday above ground is a good one!”
"So John, what did you get up to on Sunday" ☀️ "Good question! I got the laundry done, as it was really sunny. I also met my client at the airport to sign mortgage documents."✈🤗 "Don't you have better things to do" 🤔 "No, it's the right thing to do. She arrives after a 20hour flight from Europe, including an interstate transfer. She needs this refinance." 💲So what is everyone up to today
At The Boathouse this arvo with other Western suburbs brokers. Why do we love working for ourselves Coz we can wear anything we want!
Jokes aside, we caught up with 3 lenders - Macquarie, AMP and Pepper Money - and their BDMs had an opportunity to meet and greet us.
Macquarie and AMP are 2 lenders I use a lot of. Every lender has their own niche, and very often they are far superior to your typical Big 4.
Keep a look out for my posts, introducing my BDMs and lenders to you!!
