I always thought loving was easy, but I’ve realized to truly love in the way that we were designed to love is really hard. I countlessly have to remind myself what love really looks like - what it should look like and be fearless enough to let out the sails of my heart and just love others and God the way that I should - fully , completely, without excuses. Black Girls Surf magic. This was the best day of my life. I had a thought, turned it into a vision, next came the plan and last the execution. There will never be another day like this but I’m stoked and more inspired by every moment of this day. We’re here. If no one told you let me be the first to say, Black girls and women surf. We do. I didn’t do this for me, this is for the next generation. No turning back. 💕🏄🏽♀️✊🏽 #blackgirlssurf #blackgirlmagic #surfergirl #inclusion #visibility #surf #santacruz #davenport #tacos #californialove #blackgirls
“Only a surfer knows the feeling”. The feeling of how time disappears, how the mind is silent, how you’re 100% present in your body and in the present moment, how you are one with nature, completely humble to all her power yet in symbiosis with the fluctuations. The effortless letting go of the waves you don’t catch and the celebration of the ones you do. The community spirit of us all being equally dependent on power of the ocean and unanimously swallowed by her when she wishes to do that. I’ve never experienced anything like surfing. It’s so big, so powerful, so transformational, so humbling, so far away from prestige and performance and so healing so many aspects. For me, it’s the perfect yang to the yin of yoga. The perfect combination. Healing all over. All the way in. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. The gratitude is overwhelming and I’m literally sitting here on the bus on my way to the airport crying of happiness and gratitude. ✨
Thank you @blackstonesurfcenter for this time around, thank you @sok_luna for being the best one ever, thank you @pierrenicolas85 for giving me and @vevvejaderlund an amazing lesson, thank you @vevvejaderlund for cheering me on, thank you @dommdk for your constant smiles and thank you mother ocean for healing me, scratching the outside but healing the inside 🙏🏽 #tenerife I believe again it’s a hasta luego instead of an adiós 🤙🏽 #movingmeditation
I have always felt this deep need to prove myself. It propelled me to be a high achiever. For decades I ran my life from a sense of total urgency. Gotta be first. Gotta be best. Gotta execute as much as possible now! Urgency is a perception. As leaders we choose to see our days this way. And it’s a choice. Here is what you are signing up for though…
Big rushes of adrenaline that tell your body to grab some quick fuel in the form of sugar stored in your muscles. It fatigues you quickly and it also causes low grade inflammation which is the pre-cursor for disease.
Of course you then crave sugar to get more quick fuel.
When it becomes chronic you are releasing massive amounts of cortisol.
You are constantly on guard because of that urgency. Your body reads danger. It thinks it’s being sniffed out by predators so it's going to suppress melatonin, your sleep hormone and stop using vital energy for restoration.
Of course you can’t sleep and your jeans feel tighter.
Don’t drop the dream, drop the urgency. That has helped me so much. I started with a simple exercise technique to use my adrenaline rushes to support NOT harm my body.
Do mini well timed HIIT workouts. HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training. It’s physically challenging so it requires a ton of readily available energy.
The next time you feel that sense of urgency (for me it was all throughout the day) and you notice your heart rate go up, your muscles tensing and your breath getting shallow, it’s your window! Use that burst of energy and do a 3 minute HIIT. That is all you need and yes you can totally do it in your office. I do it all the time.
Here is one of my go-to’s:
Set the timer on your phone for 3 minutes. Press start.
Do 40 seconds of jab/punch combinations
Rest for 20 seconds
Do 40 seconds of squats
Rest for 20 seconds
Do 40 seconds of alternating side kicks
Rest for 20 seconds.
Catch your breath. Walk around. Grab some water and then get back to work. You have just given your body a physical outlet…a reason to actually use that shot of adrenaline. You won’t be dangerously knocked out of balance all the time. You will feel better and actually accomplish MORE. When it works for you, and
