Woke up like, it’s my birfday!!! .
Join me for a special b-day #AfroHipHopDance class this week. They’ll be cupcakes and lots of booty shaking of course 🧁💃🏽
Thursday nights 7:15-8:15 👉🏾 6009 W. Olympic Blvd LA 90036.
This year I choreographed, performed and produced a sold out show which highlighted artists of color via dance and live music #InMySkin317
Initiated my first #HealHerWorkshops tour which also sold out but more importantly were some of the most beautiful, powerful and inspiring days of the year. .
Celebrated 8 years of teaching weekly #AfroHipHopDance classes!
Practiced vulnerable creativity by sharing clips of raw, impromptu, improvisational performance art on IG, which is huge for me because I usually only share things that are more polished and orchestrated and I wanted to push myself in this way so we out here winning as #TatiMoves. .
Practiced loving my husband better and persevered thru the most challenging time of our marriage. More on that later. .
Found a way to support my family thru some major tests + take granny to a bunch of full day doctors visits during the busiest work time of the year. .
Also started planning a women’s healing retreat in Bali for fall of next year which I’m super excited about!! #SheHealHer
I have a really good feeling about 2019. Like it stirs me up in the best way. Whether you’re feeling down or hopeful about the future, setting goals or setting intentions to not set goals, I pray we find more peace in our hearts and rely on each other more. Here’s to experiencing an abundance of joy, love, creativity, soul nourishing experiences and dreams fulfilled. Thanks for sharing this journey with me. Much love fam 💓🙌🏾

be too much to carry
gotta shake off yesterday
create space between each

Part 3: it wasn’t until the last five minutes of a three hour jam session that we began to understand what this piece is really about - overcoming fears of truly being seen and embracing parts of my body i was taught to hate. it’s a process. it takes a lot of conscious effort to dismantle years of oppressive behavior. it’s also taken me years to relinquish control over many situations. i understand it’s been a coping mechanism but I’ve been working on a new approach. i’m a planner. i usually see the end of a project in the beginning, which isn’t a bad thing. but I’ve been practicing letting go. learning how to be more curious with the creative process verses feeling the need to map out what everything is gonna look like from the jump. leaving space for true collaboration. leaving space for the unknown. leaving space for the Creator to move thru me. .
What a wonderful experience with such an amazing family. Today we stepped out of our routine and went out to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Stepping out and asking people for their prayer request out in the streets. Many approached us with a smiles and when they found out what were doing their mask came down and pure transparency transpired. Depression, struggle with children, and anxiety were just some of the things people were masking with their smiles. Lesson of the day: outward appearance is not always a reflection of what’s going on. Be bold, be courageous, love on and pray for someone you wouldn’t regularly do it for. #LoveSunday #Prayer #PopUpPrayer #PrayerStation #MovementChurch #TatiMoves #CintyCentre #Move #Movement
Been twirling in the streets of #nola
Looking forward to more movement, more joy and letting my braids whip around in dance class with y’all, lol! .
Only two #AfroHipHopDance classes left before we go on a small break for my #SheHealHer workshop tour. Hope to dance with y’all soon!
CLASS: 7/12, 7/26
7/19 + Most of August.
Class resumes 8/30 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
(2 of 2) In the year 1865 more than 250,000 slaves were told about their freedom two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth is commemorated as the real end of slavery in the U.S for people of African decent. As we celebrate #Juneteenth I’m grateful for these markers in history that prove our efforts are not in vein. May we stay strong and connected through vision, laughter, love and movement. We need all the healing medicine we can get to continue the quest for #freedom for all! “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” -Nelson Mandela.
Loved sharing this experience with y’all! @iamkingtae @richardson_chery @queensofsankofa

I got so much inspiration from @childishGambino’s latest music video #ThisIsAmerica. And while there is a Black genocide happening in this country, there is also an evolving Black renaissance: bringing more awareness, conscious creativity and collective movement. One effect of systematic racism is that it tries to dim our light, our joy and sense of humanity, making folks feel so paralyzed by the trauma that we feel too hopeless and helpless to do anything about it. For me, dance is a form of resistance; an awaking to my true self. It gets me in my joy quicker than just about anything else. And while anger can be a powerful catalyst to respond to injustice, joy can be its perfect partner - creating balance in a world that needs a major equilibrium shift. And I believe that unifying communal spaces are one way to contribute to that shift - hence I created my weekly #AfroHipHopDance class. Let’s move together. Be in our joy together. And as my sis @mumumansion always says, #getfree together.

As much as I love this choreography by my girl @ninaflagg, I wasn’t gonna share this video cuz I messed up a couple of times. Sometimes I feel embarrassed that I’ve been dancing so long and still get nervous in front of a camera and struggle with certain rhythms. And while it’s nice to share something that feels polished and complete, sharing the process, ongoing mistakes and steps it takes to move through all of that is honest and real. So here I am - shaking my booty, on the beat, off the beat, too fast, right on time, and everything in between. .

Counting down the days till I get to take this woman’s class again, which has been so inspiring for me as a dancer, student and teacher. I’ve been getting my whole life in @ninaflagg’s class and you should too. Usually the choreography is fairly upbeat but she slowed it down for us with this fun, sensual groove which felt so good. Join us every Sunday at @yns_dancelinela from 11:30-1:00. See you there!
Thank you to everyone who came to see our show tonight! @mackkara brought together so many amazing artists and I feel blessed to have been one of them and to choreograph #CatharsisTranscendent. Shot out to @emersion for capturing this photo of us, featuring @3aniiii @bbronz0 @iamkingtae @jahannablunt and myself. And shot out to @joni_margaux for making our beautiful costumes. See y’all Saturday night for our last show celebrating African Diasporic Music and Dance! Ticket link in bio #WeThePeople #AfricaInAmerica #BlackArtMatters 🙌🏽🙌🏾🙌🏿

I haven't danced in a couple of months as I've been healing from an injury. Tonight was my first time reacquainting myself with this art form I love so much. And while it's often a bit painful to watch certain dance videos of myself, cuz I always think I'm doing more than what I'm actually doing - nothing brings me more joy than dancing! And I know that doing the thing I love most is also the healing medicine I need to return to myself - with a new awareness in my bones. Thank you @wsouly for an awesome class! #westafricandance #dance #healingthroughmovement #tatimoves
FYI #AfroHipHopDance will start back up in the New Year, January 19th! 💃🏾 💃🏻💃🏼💃🏿
15 years old. Stretching before a show. One of my favorite teachers and choreographers was Robert Gilliam. He always had us in funky costumes and interesting makeup. It was a rough time for me. You can probably see the sadness I carried in my body. So thankful for these moments of creative expression. These special moments saved my life #fbf #tatimoves #artheals

So excited to share that I am officially a new member of the Joyful Heart Foundation, providing healing, education and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse. I will not only be one of their main facilitators and movement therapist for their holistic retreats, but I will also be working with this dynamic team to help build curriculum for upcoming retreats and projects. They said they fell in love with me immediately and wanted to hire me before they even did the interview. How sweet is that I've been praying for ways to evolve in my purpose and it looks like my prayers are being answered. #amen #tatimoves #shehealher #healingthroughmovement #radianthealingbreakthough

Congratulations on your Grammy nomination @rockydawuni! It was such a pleasure to dance in one of your music videos, but it's been more of a pleasure knowing such a cultured, wise and loving man. We are rooting for you!! #afrobeat #reggae #africanthriller #tatimoves
One of the best summers of my life was dancing every day at ECOLE DES SABLES, an international center for traditional and contemporary African dance in Senegal. Both studios had a missing wall which overlooked the ocean. That summer I fell in love, got the best tan of my life, drank the most delicious fresh ginger and bisap juice and danced my ass off, literally. When I arrived they called me "Dji fon de," (big back side), by the end of the trip I lost ten pounds and they said, "Djiye fon de what happened! Now you baguette" Lol! So many fun, amazing memories on my favorite continent once again, dancing with one of my favorite girls @laurelfanya 💛
