One of my favorite mini projects. Student's learn similes and metaphors and the difference between literal and non-literal language. We then create similes and metaphors that describe ourselves and create a literal self-portrait to go as with them. They're so much fun and I'm always so proud with how they turn out.

Anyone know the average atomic mass of pretzelium These kiddos do! Love using food to explain chemistry concepts!
Can I get an amen! For you skeptics out there, here are my reasons why every teacher should have a dog (in no particular order)!
1. Dogs are cute. If you have had a frustrating, sad, or overwhelming day, their sheer cuteness will lower your blood pressure and help you forget your worries. This is my dog, Pax-I dare you to stare at his picture and not smile!
2. Dogs love you. If you had a day where nothing you tried seemed to work, as soon as you get home, your dog will make you feel like a rockstar. He or she does not care that you forgot to post attendance, were late to pick up your class from specials, or that you forgot to make copies for a lesson. They think that you are the greatest thing since sliced bread, or squirrels.
3. You could use the excuse, “ I’m sorry I couldn’t grade your homework because my dog ate it.” Maybe you’ll even get away with it! If you don’t have a dog, your students will know that you are lying.
4. Dogs help you find balance. A dog will let you know when you’re spending too much time on lesson plans. They will force you to get outside, take a walk and pay attention to them, so you don’t burn yourself out by working around the clock.
5. Dogs provide a plethora of great teaching material. At our last open house, a parent told me that his son comes home and talks about my dog almost every day. I realized it’s probably because I talk my dog almost every day. He is woven into our math problems, vocabulary sentences, and sample narrative stories. Every time I say his name my students immediately pay attention, because well, who doesn’t want to pay attention to a story about a dog! What am I missing Why else should every teacher own a dog

❄️⛄️❄️ So excited to share our “how to build a snowman” writings! We made them a little more exciting this year by writing them in the shape of the snowman. So fun!!
Today at school we played. All day. And it was FANTASTIC! Today we saw our students collaborate, communicate, infer, calculate, experiment, be creative, follow directions, work together, think critically, focus, explore, smile, laugh, problem solve, make connections, negotiate, compromise, imagine and most importantly: HAVE FUN. #gspd2019

My kids are OBSESSED with #squishies! I have had them in my cool down kit since the beginning of the year but they have taken them to a whole new level. Does anybody else have a class that loves them! 💙💚🧜🏻♀️
Hard at it today! 👐
Thanks for the quote inspiration @_gollymissmollie! This is hanging in my classroom because not everything has to be about kinders. Sometimes it can just be about me 🌮
My sister sent me an early Valentine’s Day gift!! Can’t wait to use my new diffusers... and warmer... and bath bombs!! 💝 #valentinesday
Ou February, March and April puzzle posters are ready to go: Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Earth Day and Spring!
Combining reading, writing and social studies, these engaging puzzles will engage your students 😍
#WhatWeDidInRtI Today we needed to switch up our small group warm up. I dug out these sight word puzzles and the kiddos had a blast trying to figure out the mystery words. You could have your students make them on their own, by writing words on index cards and having them cut them apart for a friend to solve.
I am not one to start conflict or stir the pot but this has been weighing on my heart and mind lately. Can we all please just be kind to each other Please don’t assume because I’m a “basic white girl” that my life has been easy, or that I don’t know what name shaming feels like or that I was able to relate to characters in picture books growing up. We are all fighting battles, insecurities, anxiety, prejudices of our own. If I ever truly offend anyone please dm to let me know how and why. If you want to go off on a rant please don’t. If you want to fight, fight for each other, if you want shout let love and acceptance be the cry! I see color I get I don’t know what you’ve been through in your life but guess what you don’t know what I’ve been through either. Please don’t assume because I am not using this platform to make my voice be heard that I don’t fight injustice. That’s not me. I have my way you have yours doesn’t make either of them wrong just different. We have to be able to have a difference of opinion and still be able to respect each other. Let’s all just accept each other! #bekind #youdontknowmybattles .

Acknowledging God, welcoming Him into your life, and keeping Him first gives you an advantage! In Christ is where you will find the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that you can't get from book knowledge. A teaching degree is great, but having the Holy Spirit show you how to be an EFFECTIVE teacher is a whole nutha level.
Had to fight back the tears as I read this book to my kiddos. It details all the amazing things my friend and her class did while passing a law. The kids loved it and were able to make meaningful connections ❤️
We love reviewing with ‘Headbanz’! Students tie yarn around their head and place a strip of paper (vocabulary word) in between. The word must be facing their partner. Students then take turns asking each other questions to guess the word tied around their head!
Who doesn’t love Crankenstein! Check out our fun activities that go with the book, “A Crankenstein Valentine” on Life of a Teaching Mama’s TPT page!
Low👏🏼prep👏🏼center👏🏼 • My littles were super engaged at our writing center today! • It made my teacher heart so happy to watch them look for their “special letter” and to hear them talk about letters with friends... unprompted ❤️ • My co-teacher and I were continuously writing more letters at their request 😍 #wednesdaywin #learningwithmisslemon
