1800 tequila. It's another well marketed, highly available brand here in Australia challenging the likes of Patron for shelf position.
The bottling, shapped like the old Myan pyramids, certainly help it stand out but is it a premium sipper to spend your hard earned on
At a reasonable price point of $80 AUD, you'd expect some complexity and depth of flavour but sadly, you'd be left wanting alot more.
On opening the bottle there are hints of vanilla, coconut, agave and smoke.
Upon tasting, we found it rather basic. No thrills, no complex thought provoking flavour profile but rather small hints of vanilla, caramel and pine. That old familiar alcohol burn that is found in many cheaper tequilas is present here which is disappointing.
Its certainly not in the premium category, nor would we really recommend it as a great sipper. Its simple, non complex, straight forward low end tequila that works well within a cocktail. So much so that even their website has cocktail recipes to use (which speaks volumes in our book). Another entry level tequila and worth coming back to when you've branch out with something more complex for comparison.
Region: Jalisco (Los Valles)
Aged: 24-36mths in french oak
Drinking: As a mixer or neat.

Good times, great tequila! Heading west today and couldn’t help dig up some pics from the last time I was in Palo Alto. The pre-Launch Of @compovedatequila at @ferrarisiliconvalley 🥃 X 🐎 ————————————————————————
Motivation Monday 😊 Yellow in many cultures yellow is the color of happiness and prosperity. And I must say this “Happiness” looks dam good on this F12 TDF. Happy Monday
Heading west today and couldn’t help dig up some pics from the last time I was in Palo Alto. The pre-Launch Of @compovedatequila at @ferrarisiliconvalley 🥃 X 🐎 ———————————————————————— I have had a fascination with Italian sports cars from a very young age. Probably started when my late uncle would let me “drive” his Alfa Romeo up out driveway at 6 yrs old. I grew up with posters and scale model Ferrari and Lamborghinis in my room......... needless to say good tequila and test driving these beauties was a special treat. ————————————————————————
NOM 1492. Patron. We all know the name and we admit, we always have a bottle of one of thier expressions on hand. Global marketing reach and always available here in Australia make it an easy to find "semi" premium sipper.
Patron is a household name and usually a starting point for many introductions into sipping tequila but once you've done your research and tastings, it may be best mixed into a great cocktail.
With natural agave and vanilla notes, the anejo has a slight burn with a distinct oak and alcohol flavour. Its fairly well balanced on the palette with a slight hint of honey at the finish. Its not cheap however and usually fetches over $100 here and for the price, there are far better sippers around.
To Patrons credit, a tahona is still used along with stone/brick ovens which is something that can get thrown to the side in preference of quicker distilling methods in large scale producers.
It's a simple, non complex and readily available tequila.
While it's handy to have a bottle around, compare this to a Fortaleza or G4 for instance and you will quickly realise the difference in quality.
Region: Cienega, Jalisco
Aged: 12 mths in a mix of american and french oak
Cork/stopper: Natural cork
Drinking: Straight or over ice.

From distiller, Criilo Oropeza, comes a tequila that is all about rock n' roll and the party life, mixed with Mexican traditions. Welcome to Espolon tequila, another readily available brand throughout Australia.
There's a bit of mexican history in each expression of Espolon tequila. Each label on the Blanco, Repo, Anejo and XA carries a different story, attributed to the art work of folk hero Jose Guadalupe Posada and spirit animal, Ramon the rooster. There is no doubt that their labeling is beautifully detailed and a great artistic tribute to Mexican culture.
From NOM 1440 (cabo wabo is also made here) in the highlands of Jalisco comes a simple, inexpensive tequila that is marketed towards "good times and cocktails". They even play rock music during the fermentation period to appease the yeast. I mean that just really sets the tone.
There's an agave, pepper and oak smell with a slight "alcohol" note to the nose but its not overpowering. Once sipped, we detect more agave, oak, sweetener and vanilla with a small burn. No real complex flavours or depth here and seems more suited for cocktails but then again, for the price its not too bad as a straight sipper if you are looking for a bargain.
Is it a premium sipper No, but at $50 a bottle will make some great cocktails or even be a nice inexpensive "toe dipper" into the world of tequila. Looking for a bargain Give it a try, it could spice up your party but don't expect refinement.
Region: Jalisco highlands
Aged: 3-5mths (repo) in American Oak
Drinking: can be sipped but probably best mixed into a nice cocktail.

Summer is here for most of us and it’s that time of the year where [email protected]normally become slightly more health conscious (as we expect [email protected]wear less clothing 😂) So this post isn’t new but may be useful to you 💪🏼
The internet is full of articles touting health benefits of tequila....... While it’s debatable if tequila itself will improve your health. It most definitely is a healthier option than most other drinks: ⠀⠀
Some noteworthy nutritional facts: • Pure agave tequila (100 percent agave) is low in sugar. Tequila can contain as little as 69 calories per ounce and no carbohydrates thanks to the distillation process.
• Tequila contains special sugars called agavins, These sugars are more complex and are less refined molecules which cannot be digested by human digestive system. Agavins have weight loss properties which promote faster fat metabolism and reduce body weight. ⠀⠀
• These agavins can lowers glucose levels in blood controlling type 2 diabetes; act as fiber and prebiotic to help the digestive system. ⠀⠀
• These sugars not being absorbed by the body is a large factor in the reduced hangover experienced when drinking tequila. ⠀⠀
• Not to mention if you are sharing tequila responsibly and having a great time it is most definitely good for you mental health. ⠀⠀
• To see best results enjoy responsibly; drink high quality tequila; avoid sugary mixers (of at all) and enjoy with friends. ⠀⠀
• But seriously still exercise! We have all heard the saying “Tequila may make you look better naked” but your body was made to move! If you don’t enjoy working out, Hiking, walking, trail running are great ways to see a new city or place 😜 #keepwandering and #drinkmexican ⠀⠀
Just a bottle and a glass, that’s all you really need! #hastalacruz
@casamigos. Originally made as a "friends only" tequila for George Clooney and Co., word got out about this celebrity endorsed tequila and it started hitting the shelves. So big was its growth that liquor giant Diageo chimed in, purchased the company and its now a billion dollar float. Not bad for something that comes from NOM 1416 (producers of Avion to name but one) and known for diffusing thier products.
________________________________________Now here's the issue(s).....the purists will tell you to stay away, warn you of overly sweet tones (which it certainly has), potential for additives in the mix and of over priced labels. All this may well be true but under that is a tequila that is actually fairly nice. Its easy to drink if you enjoy a sweet tequila with caramel scents and flavours, subtle vanilla and oak go along with it. There's even a little butterscotch on the nose. It has minimal burn but also minimal agave flavour.
________________________________________In places like the US and Mexico, where selection is in abundance, I can understand people steering you towards a Fortaleza or G4 for instance but here in Australia......the market is slim and if you've dropped by your local liquor store and can't wait for your next premium order to arrive, well this could just tie you over.
________________________________________Never had tequila You'll most likely enjoy this and could be a good starting point on your tequila journey. If you are a purist with a love for the more traditional then you may not love this and want to wait on your next order. Bottom line, this isn't premium but it's far from being a bad tequila. Price is moderate here in Australia but as an every day sipper, you can do far worse. Give it a try if you enjoy Clase Azul or Adictivo.

Aged: 14mths in American Oak
Drinking: over ice or straight
