The Story behind my drawing:⠀
Hitting theatres on November 22, 2017, in the U.S, is Disney /Pixar's newest animation "Coco". The movie is based on "Dia de los Meurtos" which strictly translates to "The Day of the Dead". Which follows along a life of a 12-year-old boy boy who finds himself lost in the colorful Land of the Dead and despite his family's ban of music, that traces back to generations, he finds himself a passion in music and melodies and decides to go through a wild amount of events to participate in the talent competition. The movie "Coco" had not only gotten me excited for the newest Disney/Pixar hit, but the meaning of the film has resonated with me with the fact that if you truly believe in your interests, passions or dreams.. you should take every positive initiative forward to achieve them, despite what anyone else may say. So In honor of "Coco" and the Mexican holiday of "Dia de los Meurtos", I was inspired to create this piece; of a woman decorated beautifully in traditional taste for the event.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
Though I am currently living in the U.S.A, I am fortunate enough that it is NOT impossible for me to someday visit Vancouver. I am both shocked and inspired by the background story of both Sophie and Sandrine on them traveling their way from France to Vancouver. Oddly enough, with being around completely different sides of the world, they found a way to connect us all together, through the beautiful capture of these beautiful rain forests.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
This drawing is my reminder to stop and smell the daisies. I wanted to draw something that evoked sun and warmth and a sense of free spirit. Often in our day to day life we are expected to behave a certain way or dress a certain way. We forget what it feels like to put on clothes that make us smile and head out to just enjoy whatever nature puts in front of us. So, close your eyes, feel the sun, smell that flower! You can colour the flowers and the clothes anyway you imagine.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I have visited Vancouver a number of times for work projects. I have been lucky that each time was early spring where the weather at home was still cold and dull but Vancouver was in full spring bloom with sun. What a treat! I'm a photographer and one of the first photos I ever sold was of Vancouver from Stanley Park. Vancouver has been good to me!⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
This is done in blank ink.⠀
This drawing was about a tabby cat that likes to display by a window sill of a cottage that I used to pass by on my way to work. It has beautiful blue eyes with brown stripes. I first thought it was a porcelain piece of art and then it moved and touched the glass.⠀
⠀
I am not really good at drawing realistic animals so I decided to just use lines and dots just as in this image.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I live in the UK and I've spent two weeks in Vancouver once before. I have taken loads of photos during that time and, now and again my husband and I look at these memories and one can't imagine how much memories stored in our minds by looking at these photos such as what we ate at a restaurant or what people were doing at that time. It was a lot of fun.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
The teddy bear is a soft toy in form of a bear. It is an iconic children's toy. The charcoal drawing is of my cute twin baby girl, cuddling her adorable teddy. I bought this teddy bear for my son in 2005. By the time he was three years old, he threw it aside and started chasing toy cars and Thomas the Tank Engine. I gave the teddy to my daughter. She loves playing with and cuddling her teddy every day.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
Being a Dreamer is what truly defines me in one word. I began making Mike The Dreamer as my contribution to Big Picture Art Project. It led to a mini story where the character daydreams different alternate realities within his dream. I liked playing with the term dreamer and daydreaming as my plot. Mike is also a concept that talks a lot about my life overall. I love using symbolic imagery as it can be found in all my work.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I love traveling to different places and learning from new cultures. Currently I am living in Argentina, Buenos Aires. I have however a very close Canadian friend whom invited me to participate. Would love to visit Vancouver in a near future. It always makes me happy to be at international events or Art collaborations.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
Some people walk by and see a mass of rocks and stones. Me? I see forms, shapes, angles and rugged beauty. And, when I see an Inuksuk standing among all this, I feel like I somehow won the lottery. Like I found a hidden gem. I want to photograph it, draw it, take it all in - in case it isn't there tomorrow. Contrasting the thoughtful sculpted statue with the scattered, accidental rocks is inspiring. To make sure I get it right, I walk on the rocks, touch their surface with my hands, step back to take it all in, and bend down to get a closer look. I love this scene. I know that it won't look the same the next time I visit Vancouver. But for now this drawing is enough to remind me of this place and these assorted rocks and stones.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
Vancouver is a contrast in big city excitement and natural beauty. As a prairie girl I am drawn to the west coast and look forward to my visits there.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
My father, Max Akerman, died April 6th. He had Parkinson's Disease but his final illness was sudden. It was very shocking. But I'm glad he didn't suffer a long, drawn out ordeal. I took some photos of Dad last December and started this portrait, the most meaningful one so far. I feel the love and bemusement, as though he was thinking, "What is she up to now? Well, I love her, I have nothing better to do, so let her do her thing. And we'll see what comes of it.." He loved his family in the best possible way.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
This is a drawing of my first grandson, Isaiah. I thought my heart was full when I had my own children. I was wrong! I distinctly remember holding him in my arms for the first time. My heart was so full of love and joy!⠀
Children are such a beautiful gift from God and grandchildren, for some reason, seem to have an even more special place in your heart.⠀
Since Isaiah was born, we have been blessed with two more grandchildren; Titus and Miriam.⠀
If I had known how wonderful it was to have grandchildren, I would have had them first!⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
My childhood is littered with memories of visiting my great grandparent's house in Silver Valley, AB. These memories mostly consist of quading to the river, searching for Gypsum in the washout near by, and lots of chats around their dinning table. Opa's stories and old memories still make me laugh, and while I observe Nana's amazing knitting skills, I ponder how they are able to store so much energy in their old, fragile bodies. As they pass their sixty-seventh anniversary, with four children, eight grand children, and eleven great grand children, the whole family, their friends, and their neighbors and both proud and surprised that they are still living on their own. My sketch represents those memories of sitting around the table, in their miss-matched chairs, playing Scrabble, and those of trying to play Pool in their basement. Such times I wish to hold forever, but will have to satisfy with the memories instead.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I live in Dawson Creek, BC, and I have never been to Vancouver, though I would really enjoy it. I would love to see the Pacific Coast and bike through Stanley Park.⠀

This picture is part of the Big Picture Art Project!⠀ ⠀ Drawing by Rory Fehr⠀ ⠀ Country: Canada⠀ ⠀ Link in profile⠀ ⠀ The Story behind my drawing:⠀ My childhood is littered with memories of visiting my great grandparent's house in Silver Valley, AB. Such times I wish to hold forever, but will have to satisfy with the memories instead.⠀ ⠀ My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀ I live in Dawson Creek, BC, and I have never been to Vancouver, though I would really enjoy it. I would love to see the Pacific Coast and bike through Stanley Park.⠀ ⠀ Click here to read more about the Big Picture Art Project:⠀ http://thebigpictureartproject.com⠀ ⠀ #collectiveart #collectivearts #collaborativeart #NorthVancouver #thebigpictureartproject

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
I've always been told that faculty of fine arts is the one for me,⠀
My friends, teachers..etc have always encourage me to study Art,⠀
Now..well I am in my second year of pharmacy school,⠀
too busy that I rarely draw,⠀
Some days I keep wonder why I didn't give myself a chance to study Art..or even to enter the pre-exam to find out if I have the right requirements to..⠀
It must be fate..⠀
Thanks to the big picture art project I have a reason to draw.. :)⠀
So simply I drew a bird standing on a man's hand..⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
After reading some articles and looking for some photos, Vancouver seems really interesting!⠀
Traveling is a dream,so if it happens_God's willing_Vancouver is absolutely on the list..⠀

I had cold many weeks ago, and I was having a Hot Herb Tea. That day I read an email from Sandrine about drawing with felt pen or any kind of pen something that you are inspired to and I saw my big Tea Cup and I started to draw what I was having, so I draw an imaginary flowers from my Herb Tea!⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
I have always known that I am highly intuitive. I respond so strongly to the energies of those around me that, at times, I can not even differentiate between the the feelings and emotions of others and my own. In essence, if the people around me are sad, then I am sad whether I know the reason or not. Likewise, if the people around me are happy and excited, then I will find myself filled with elation. In a world that is driven by social media and technology we have endless amounts of information at our fingertips. This rapid increase in both factual and unfactual information results in a culture of people who are filled with opinions and the need to express them. For me, this means that I can sometimes feel extremely overwhelmed by all the voices, opinions and crowds. So much so, that I begin to feel detached, alone and lost. In a world with so much to say, I am silenced an I wonder if I even exist at all.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I have never had the pleasure of visiting Vancouver. As a person from the Southeastern USA, Vancouver evokes images of beautiful natural scenery, groundedness and peace. I hope to visit someday soon!⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
This is a sketch from one of drawing evenings that I addend on a weekly bases. I love life drawing as it give you the greatest opportunity to draw people as they are, sometime I like to draw in more public places like coffee shops or public transport. This drawing is a great example of the time freedom that life drawing session can give. It was done in 1.5 hours in a slaw and relax peace. I have chosen this drawing as it shows that even life models have emotions, they don't pretend, they pose for us and they feel and think. In this portrait you can see the sadness of this model, her far away being even though her body was with us, her mind wasn't. This is the perfect kind of model for me, one that feels and is not afraid of it an do not hide it.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
My name is Aggie, polish born artist who lives in Great Britain. My two biggest passions in life are art and travel. Vancouver is a place that would love to visit on my next journey to America. Canada as a country itself seams to be haven for artist and Vancouver looks like it has all the best from two world, the modern architecture and life full of energy as much as beautiful nature, which combine together give an endless inspirations to people like me.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
My image is of 'Home', symbolising all that matters to me. My family and the city of which i live and grown, developed alongside one another. old buildings are demolished while new ones are built, new additions to the family are introduced and elders fade into forever slumber.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
Vancouver makes me think about many other blustering, thriving cities such as New York, Tokyo. All of the mysteries that people have lived and are living to this day. The whispers through the streets, the knowlege within the architecture.⠀

I’m a seventeen year old dutch girl and I’m drawing since I’m twelve. I taught myself and I’m proud of my work. This drawing has already taken 12 hours of my life, but it is still not finished. I wanted to draw this jumping horse, because I love horse back riding and later I want to join jumping competitions. I’m sorry if my English isn’t that good. I’m still in the learning process!⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
We live behind Latimer House in a newish home, but a 2 minute walk gets me here... a stark contrast! This mock gothic, vitally important prisoner of war base of WW2 is now a De Vere hotel full of atmosphere. Dusk is particularly murky here in autumn which is why I thought charcoal was the best choice to draw the house.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
Hello to all! In the last years i have seen a lot of pictures in every media about refugees coming to countries in Europe, also to Austria. I have seen desparate mothers with their children in cold winter, sitting in tents, nothing to eat or to drink. I have seen the anxiety in their eyes and couldn' forget what i have seen. This inspired me to make this drawing. I want to send out a message: We all have only one earth to live on, we all share the same biology, and God loves everyone of us, no matter what colour of skin or what religion we have! Best wishes from Ingrid!⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I live in Austria, it's only a small country in Middle Europe. It's a very beautiful and safe place to live. Maybe, one day, i want to visit Vancouver with my 12 years old son Elias. That would be great!⠀
Best wishes from Ingrid!⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
A mandala serves the creative purpose of giving expression and form to something that does not yet exist, something new and unique. The process is that of the ascending spiral, which grows upward while simultaneously returning again and again to the same point.Creating mandalas helps stabilize, integrate, and re-order inner life.⠀
Unlike traditional mandalas, this unusual mandala integrates the true essence of oneness of nature and our spiritual self.⠀
I believe the floral glory of nature posses the enchanting abilities to absorb our pain and propel us towards a positive and radiant future.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
Vancouver is the city we're I would gladly settle down for the rest of my life. Currently living in the land of festivals, India, I aspire to gain admission into the University of British Columbia, the education hub of Vancouver. Since, the coastal city is well known for it's arts and culture, I consider it as a paradise for budding artists like me.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
Joy. Love. Ecstasy. Intimacy. Sensuality. Touch. Kisses. A special moment between myself and a lover. It was a moment anticipated for so long and appropriately savored.⠀
It always sticks in my mind and stirs emotions when I remember the chemistry and synchronicity that I would experience with her. I would give my whole self to her and she would do the same. Even trying to better me, it seemed like, she would allow more of herself to come out and as she gave. She received. Deeper than physical. Beyond the moment. To live on in my mind. I search for her in other women. That type of moment. Maybe I'll find it maybe I won't. She's gone but not forgotten.⠀

My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
When I was younger my father used to go to Canada all the time I don't know if he want to Vancouver but I would like to go to Vancouver. I hear beautiful things about it⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
In Hanoi, I used to have electric trains, and later, the city changed, the train was no longer. Hours can only appear in memories, old photos, paintings. As in today, in my paintings there is a train.⠀
⠀
I was born in Vietnam in 1973, where I live as an Asian country. Ever since I was little I liked drawing, and then I became an artist from time to time. Painting is like a lot of pictures, but I choose the abstract school for myself. This school realized that it was in line with Eastern philosophical ideas like the Asian countries I have been through - China, Thailand, Singapore ... v, v. I went almost to Asia.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
Canada, your country is beautiful, but I only know through books, television, I have not been there. But I believe with my paintings, it will take me everywhere ... in the near future will be Canada - your country.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀⠀
I work as a graphic designer and sometimes when I'm thinking about an idea or concept for a job, I occasionally find myself doodling as it helps me clear my mind and think better. This piece is the product of one of those days and was originally meant to be a quick sketch of a random face. Throughout the work day I found myself adding little bits to it here and there and it eventually ended up evolving into this final piece. I love how an idea can morph into something completely different and how even as the artist of a piece you may not always know what the final product will end up looking like, since sometimes it feels as though the picture itself has a mind of its own and takes you in a completely different direction. I hope this could be a lesson to me, so that on those days where I'm not inspired and don't have any particular ideas, I should still pick up a pencil, scribble on a paper and see where it takes me.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀⠀
My mum was born and lived in Canada so one day I really hope to travel there, Vancouver being one of the places I would love to visit. I'd especially love to go there with my mum, since she hasn't been back to Canada since moving to Malta 40 years ago.⠀⠀

Every year since our honeymoon we travel from Seattle to Vancouver or Victoria for vacation. We love the waterways, mountains, gardens, city life, art, parks, hiking, food and people. The Story behind my drawing:⠀
My 19 year-old son asked me if I would travel to Europe with him. He wanted me to go back to Iceland where he had visited the previous year alone but this time to drive the perimeter together. I was thrilled and honored to be asked. It was a trip to remember. This tiny vertebrae, about 1 cm was found at the side of the road on one of our pit stops. The intrigue of not knowing what it belonged to and it's delicate beauty inspired me to try and capture it in a drawing.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I have lived in Vancouver for 27 years and marvel every day at its incredible beauty. I am also painfully aware of the challenges that so many face in trying to survive in a city that can be financially and socially stigmatizing. The paradox of beauty and beast.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
The picture shows a moth in the field, for me, it reflects my desire to demystify a false belief in my country. People thinks these animals are bad luck, this is a free drawing for me, because I found this particularly moth at the floor of my house.⠀
⠀
Moths are nocturnal butterflies that feed on nectar from flowers. Only a few species can become harmful. Also in the popular culture has become known in the comics, in the television, the cinema of horror and science fiction as a villainous creature.⠀
⠀
In addition, their disappearance would represent a danger to the food chain.⠀

This was an exploration of nature, something that is important to me. I wanted to convey a sense of depth and mystery to this, to really express the sense of intrigue I often feel when visiting forests. The figures in white represent myself and my friends. I used the same white to create flicks and spots which are sort of representative of fireflies and help to push a sense of atmosphere.⠀

I am always inspired by my garden and I had to draw the last bit of nasturtium holding on during the crazy up and down temps of a Cleveland autumn. I was enchanted to be able to capture this last bit of summer joy and extend the sensation a little longer through this sketch.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
Eve synopsis⠀
⠀
Eve, once the mother to all and wife to Adam. Together, with the angels help, they watched over all mankind. Until Lucifer, The Dark Lord convinced Adam he could be a king. Betrayed by her true love, Adam’s treachery started the war. Sides were taken and imperfection set in. Angels and demons now spend all eternity fighting in a holy war for the souls of not just mankind, but all creation. So when we die, our soul is chosen for God’s army or the devil’s. But none of this will matter if Lucifer’s daughter, Kaylarah, obtains the five rings. She will claim her throne and enslave all life.⠀

This picture is part of the Big Picture Art Project!⠀ ⠀ Drawing by Jonathan Borden⠀ ⠀ Country: Canada⠀ ⠀ Link in profile ⠀ ⠀ The Story behind my drawing:⠀ Eve synopsis⠀ ⠀ Eve, once the mother to all and wife to Adam. She will claim her throne and enslave all life.⠀ ⠀ “For if the balance ever became unbalanced again, the only thing that could restore the faith of mankind will be the blood of God…” The Blood Book Isaiah 67:22⠀ ⠀ My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀ I love Vancouver! The Story behind my drawing:⠀
This is a pine tree that I see basically every day in my daily walk through the forest in our outer suburb of Stockholm. I moved here 8 years ago from Melbourne, Australia for a relationship. I’m still here! Though it’s been challenging on every level. But exciting too.⠀
⠀
I find that those trees, especially the pines, make me feel at home. So they’re really important to me emotionally. I see them as my friends and I try to render their individuality. It pains me that many of them appear to be dying. I feel people take pine trees for granted, so I try to honour them in my drawings and paintings. A memorial.⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
One of my favourite tv shows is Smallville, which was filmed in Vancouver. As a result of this I always think of Vancouver fondly, as well as being on my list of places I'd love to visit.⠀

This picture is about all the teenagers or any persons who wish to be an artist. Our society hardly appreciate different types of dreams. Most of us are told to be a doctor or an engineer or maybe an officer. Our parents keep worrying about our future, that's why they try to stop us from taking up unconventional jobs or following our dreams..⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
A room with a view. In February 2017, I flew to France for two weeks with my son. I had not been anywhere in Europe before and had not travelled for sixteen years so this was an adventure for me & a test of my fear of flying. We spent two days in Paris sightseeing then headed south to Saint-Sauvignon where we stayed for the next ten days. Coming from summer in Australia where we have absolute scorching hot days, it was bleak and very cold. When I wasn't exploring the local township and had my alone time, I sketched this view over the course of a week from the hotel room in my handmade journal. I'm so glad I packed my art supplies as there wasn't a store that sold any.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
I have always been longing to art. In a childhood, having read an announcement about the admission to the theater school, I have tried to enter in it. I was admitted and left an ordinary school for this one. There were a lot of boys and a few girls. At the lessons, our chief asked mainly the boys and very seldom the girls. For this reason all the girls had inferiority complex and were very afraid to recite their lessons. Then due to the problems with my spine I had gone to the hospital and was forced to leave this theatre school. Later it was discovered that I had lost nothing, because our chief turned out to be “blue”. There was a scandal and the theater school was broken up. After a while this man became a director of one of the capital theaters.⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
I wasn't born in the 90's, but still felt like a 90's kid, because my sisters and I used to watch old cartoons, sitcoms and anime all the time or we played supernintendo and in general did lot of stuff together.⠀
I sometimes miss it, because that was one of the happiest times in my life.⠀
This picture was mostly a mixture of everything that influenced my childhood, for example the buttons or the clothes, because back then everybody used to wear this crazy and characteristic clothes and hairstyles noticeable in shows like "Hey Arnold" or "Everybody hates Chris".⠀
⠀
My connection to #Vancouver or what Vancouver evokes to me:⠀
I'd love to visit Vancouver sometime, because big cities in general are just gorgeous and always have something that makes them unique and stand out also Vancouver seems to have a big history behind it which I'd love to learn more about⠀

The Story behind my drawing:⠀
This picture is of a little girl from a fisherman's family in a small village near Kolkata, India. Her father, apparently , must have asked her to keep an eye on the fishing nets , while he went away on an errand. She stares at my husband and I as we got out of our car , keeping an eye on us and our activities as we went around taking photographs of the place. The only time she smiled was when we waved goodbye and got into our car!⠀

I was born in South Africa and returning occasionally to my home country always includes a visit to one of the national parks. I love animals and am totally committed to their conservation and protection. This cunning little fellow entered the bungalow and proceeded to steal all the fruit in the bowl.
