There is evidence going both ways in terms of support, however, before we dive too far into the research, just a quick refresher for those who may not be familiar with the term. BCAA’s are an amino acid, which helps make up proteins in our bodies. Any protein source we eat, most commonly meat or eggs, are made up of these amino acids. The amino acids are the most simplistic form of a protein and goes in to repair damaged proteins in your body. There is a lot of information regarding everything regarding amino acids, but I will save that for another post!
Research supports that BCAA’s are good for those individuals who do not get enough protein, so people who may not like protein, those who live a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, or those who are under a pretty heavy caloric restriction. BCAA’s are good to supplement your diet.
The reverse of that includes those who eat a lot of protein in their diet. Research shows that those who eat adequate enough protein do not necessarily get any benefit from added BCAA’s. At this point, you are essentially paying for an expensive flavored water.
Me, personally, I save my money and don’t buy BCAA’s. However, for some, they could be super beneficial!

As Ihave mentioned before, deadlifting is an exercise that gets a bad rap more often than not. It’s not because it is a dangerous or bad exercise, but because people don’t properly perform it or add WAY too much weight before they’re ready.
Even if you think you are a pro at deadlifting, take a step back and analyze form to help prevent injury in your low back.
Some things to look for:
✅you want the bar as close to your body as possible ✅make sure your back is not rounding when you go to pull the weight off the floor. Research shows this does not put an insane amount of excess pressure on your discs, but if you can.. keep that back straight ✅avoid your hips rising first before the weight. You want one smooth movement
✅use your heels to really drive into the ground, almost as if you’re pushing the ground away from you
✅keep your core nice and tight through the whole movement
This checklist won’t 100% guarantee you won’t have an injury, but it will help to greatly reduce the risk.
Next time you do deadlifts, set your phone up to the side of you to video yourself so that you can check your form. If you’re unsure of what you’re looking for, send me the video and we can analyze it together so that we can ensure you’re performing this movement safely!
