So... my meal plan doesn’t suck 🤤
Also, my father is quite the do-it-yourself-er and this granola is homemade by him. He was nice enough to share the recipe for you 🤗
5 cups of oats (Not quick oats)
1/2 cup canola oil
1/4 cup honey
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. Vanilla
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup mixed nuts
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Mix everything BUT the chocolate chips. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Than stir out the chunks. Bake for another 10 minutes.
Once it’s cool, add in the chocolate chips and enjoy 👅
I love adding it to my yogurt with a cup of fruit!!
Tag me if you make it!!
How much sugar is too much The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued new guidelines that call upon countries to reduce the consumption of added sugar. The UN group continues with its recommendation that both adults and children limit their intake of added sugar to less than 10% of total daily calories. What’s new is its conditional guidance that it may be best to keep added sugar below 5% of daily calories. That’s 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day for a 2,000-calorie diet. Added sugar consumption is estimated to be over 22 teaspoons a day among U.S. adults today – 8,030 teaspoons a year! https://bit.ly/2WaYCwH
Here is a chart developed by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to start bringing your awareness to the amount of sugar by the teaspoon added to common every day foods.
Tuesday Jan 22 2018: Totally lazy day today!! I slept in until 2pm and really didn’t move until 3pm! Yesterday was an emotionally trying day and I’m also adjusting to night shift. So I’m gonna forgive myself a little. However, my eating was total crap!!! Tooo much sugar too much junk foods. My sister came back from China/Korea/Japan so I had to try her different flavors of kit kat. Wasabi was AWFUL... Pro #diettip keep a box of wasabi KitKats around. You’ll take one bite, get that sweetness you crave, be tortured by the wasabi, and boom craving gone. Went grocery shopping and doing some meal prep now.

It’s my birthday guys! What a great excuse to talk sugar because, let’s be real, I’ve eaten quite a bit today...⠀
But seriously, words are powerful, especially when speaking to your children. Too often I hear children, yes even five year olds, use the phrase “too much sugar.” ⠀
“Too much sugar.” Is this a good or bad thing to say to our children Let’s think about it. If we start to demonize food and label it good or bad, we can ultimately be setting ourselves and our children up for failure with a healthy relationship with food. ⠀
Sugar is in many foods - natural and added. Fruit has a lot of natural sugar. Does that mean it’s bad for us ⠀
Instead of labeling higher sugar foods as “bad,” using language like “that has too much sugar,” or restricting these kinds of food try these strategies: ⠀
1. Explain that sugar gives us quick energy, and should be eaten in moderation or “sometimes.”⠀
2. Explain that many foods have sugar, but some options are better choices. ⠀
3. “We can still eat (enter food item here), but maybe not every day. ⠀
4. Avoid using treats and sweets as a reward or encouragement to eat other foods on their plate. ⠀
5. Try offering desserts WITH meals and snacks. I know, crazy right If we don’t put restrictions on food or make them compete with other foods, eating sweets won’t seem as much of a big deal. Neutralize them and you’ll be amazed. Because let me tell you, your kids will someday enter the real world and have to make choices on their own and they WILL come in contact with sweets, treats and other indulgent foods. Give them the confidence and knowledge of how to make healthy choices, instead of guilt and shame when they do, and they will, consume these foods. ⠀
With all that said, I’m certainly not trying to praise sweets or say that you should eat them all the time, but rather we should be mindful of the language we use around food and simply enjoy things in moderation. Sometimes the language and restrictions we have on food are more dangerous than the food itself. ⠀

✨✨ EATING OUT: HEALTH ❤️ DANGERS💛 👊👊 Hidden Added Sugar👊👊 When I was in college, I worked at a high-end Italian restaurant and will never forget the day I learned that they added 2 tablespoons on refined sugar to every serving of marinara sauce! Restaurants add salt, sugar and cheap oils to many things like sauces and salad dressings to enhance flavor without adding cost that you would never put in your meals at home. The server usually isn’t aware of this, so even if you ask, chances are you won’t get a straight answer

There's a surprising amount of sugar in popular kids' drinks.
If you’re worried about how much sugar your kids are eating, it’s time to take a second look at how much they’re drinking.
It's no surprise that many sodas have a lot of sugar. What may be more surprising is that many fruit drinks, often billed as healthier alternatives, are often loaded with close to the same amount of sugar and calories. #sugarydrinks #toomuchsugar #readingpediatricdentistry #drinkwaternotsugar #sugarcavity #sugarkidsdrink

Finding out about food...
This is my mission to improve what we eat and enjoy more interesting foods. And to help the girls make good food choices themselves. I see this as having a few stages. Firstly to understanding what we eat. Starting with sugar. 🍫Nutella is such a favourite in our house. Not a regular purchase, especially since discovering a nut allergy. But we still have some left over!
Eva was horrified 😱😱😱to see how much sugar was in one portion of Nutella on toast. She spooned out the sugar into the scales and helped calculate the amount of sugar in one portion of Nutella in toast, which was 21g sugar 😮☹️in 39g (a generous portion size). #healthyfood #goodfood #feedingkids #learning #childledlearning #bettereating #sugar #toomuchsugar #makinggoodchoices #nutella

Food label alert: Don't fall for it!
"Organic, Turmeric, Probiotics, Natural" they are all buzz words companies will use to try to get you to buy their products. "These must be healthy, they have turmeric and probiotics and those are healthy!" Yes, these things can be healthy, but not when it's coming with a 23 gram dose of sugar which is the same as what's in the same size serving of a sugary Coke.
This product is also called "natural defense" making you think that it's going to boost your immune system, however research is very conclusive that consuming this this much sugar is actually going to instantly decrease your immune system and will far outweigh any of the benefits of the probiotics or turmeric.
Get ready for a push of buzz words like these in unhealthy products to make them seem healthier. #healthfoodmyths #foodmyth #orangejuice #toomuchsugar #americandiet
