Unless you are passionate about #design, I would imagine the thought of sitting through a 3 day color workshop where you dissect the subtle nuances in color undertones would not be your cup of tea. However, for those of us who live for design and can't seem to get enough, understanding #color is an exciting venture. I'm just returning home after attending nationally renowned Marie Killam's Color Expert Workshop in Charleston. I met seasoned designers, real estate agents, college professors teaching interior design classes as well as home stagers. It didn't seem to matter if you were a novice or highly skilled....there were so many takeaways for everyone. Maria proved to be quite the color guru with such a keen understanding of undertones. She was authentic and genuine and even shared stories of her earlier mishaps. My understanding of color has forever been transformed to a new level that I never thought possible. Grateful to be able to call myself certified as a True Color Expert trained by the very [email protected]mariakillam.

Another pic from the Evoque Hotel Inspiration showroom. I like the hits of blue green.

There is not a living soul left who bore witness to the first Great War, and very soon there will be none left to tell the tale first-hand of the Second World War. For the sake of our children, the importance we place on Remembrance should be increasing year by year, for, in the words of George Santayana, ‘Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it’.
Just one of the beautiful staged rooms at the Evoque Hotel Inspiration showroom. I missed the grand opening but popped in for a look yesterday. Who likes the idea of a bit of hotel luxury at home
Blue vanity anyone Thanks to Karin and Vivianne @plumbingworld_nz for a fab showroom visit today. I enjoyed talking taps and toilets!
Accessories to warm it up for some lovely clients😊
As a curl-up-with -good-book enthusiast, I’m a crusader for every seat in a home having a comfy cushion, a light to read by and a place to set your (insert drink of choice here) & maybe a little snack
More braziers in all different sizes brought from India to NZ by Hawthorn. We had so much fun exploring all their international finds. It’s a great place to go if you’re looking for some patina - lots of old textured doors and things like that.
What a great evening presentation and hosting of the Sherwin-Williams COLORMIX Forecast 2019. Even the desserts were color coordinated 😍Fabulous job Robin Blessing! Can’t wait to work with the new color journals. #sherwinwilliams #truecolourexpert
Another lovely find. Divine perfume, perfect packaging and just right for our coastal vibe.
This is a side view of the water plant grouping I posted a while ago, snapped during a visit to @willsandprior. So pretty I think, and easy to maintain I’m guessing— you wouldn’t have to worry about forgetting to water them (my usual downfall)😜
Now that’s a brazier! One of our great finds visiting the Hawthorne showroom today. Imagine lazy holiday evenings sitting around that 🔥
Wallpaper Wednesday! This stunning design in various blue and green and gray colours is so garden fresh and yet moody. Paired with the mosaic metallic paper makes this interplay of patterns and colours a striking design style.
Matching #benjaminmoore paint colours are Gray owl, Sea Haze, Timothy Straw, Lichen Green, North Sea and Oasis Tropical.
What do you think of these wallpapers

I always smile when I walk past these black and white photos, taken when the kids were quite young. I love the sparkle in my son’s eyes in his shots— he got right into it. My daughter..., not so much. Many tears were shed. As a result, these photos are a daily reminder of my (first) fall from grace as a parent. Out the window went all my high-horse parenting standards (conceived well before I had any children of my own😜). Out the window with “l’ll NEVER bribe my children”, and “I’ll NEVER give my daughter Barbie dolls”. In the window (and out of my mouth) came sentenced like “If you just smile a little bit for the photographer, honey, maybe we’ll have time to stop at the store and buy you a Barbie on the way home!” 😬
Still love these photos anyways!
An afternoon of tile sourcing for 6 bathrooms and main house flooring. So many options of tiles with textures, shapes, patterns and gorgeous neutral colours.
When you work with a design professional who is a colour expert, the process for tile selection doesn’t have to take all week. We help you save time and money so you can stay on schedule and budget.
What decorating project are you working on that you would love some help with

Soooo, very contentious topic here. How do you feel about books backwards on a shelf I admit it, I have one set of bookshelves in my home with the books all turned backwards. But don’t worry! I can just pivot the whole section forward at a time to see all the spines, so I can find a book very easily. I am a reader and a book lover, and every room in the house has books on shelves. In this room I really wanted a calm and neutral space, and I love the colour of the aging pages😊
So tell me, where do you stand:

Announcing that I’ve branched out and opened a shiny new Instagram account for @nicolawarnerartist . There’ll still be some arty photos here from time to time, but I’ll be sharing a lot more work in progress, peeks into the studio (or the kitchen bench), and finished works over at @nicolawarnerartist (hint: click and follow 😉). Meanwhile it will be all interiors, colour and fabulous relaxed coastal style here at Island House. X
Sitting and watching, waiting for the leaves on our maple to turn their annual fall blaze #c’monalready
You wouldn’t think this is a coastal house in NZ but it is. Isn’t it wonderful how the owners have embraced the style It’s a little piece of romance tucked down a steep seaside road.
Is the painting big or the artist small A bit of both :) At @artfusions.at.carmel gala evening. The exhibition is on this weekend.
Used my fave colour scheme for this kitchen inspiration board: black & white & green plus wood = pretty happy me
