A “Burger” is a term that many native born Pakistanis use to describe an individual who maybe Pakistani in terms of their descent, but is British in all aspects otherwise. Although we often grow up feeling as though we do not entirely fit into either label perfectly, what we do blossom into -often impeccably- is being able to carry both sides of our unique cultural heritage hand in hand not only within our minds, but also our hearts. • What may have often started off as a feeling of conflict or fractured identity within, often enables us to bloom into something far far more: the embodiment of complete and utter wholeness. •I chose to the term “Burgistan” as not only does it allow for us to take ownership of the term “burger” but also to to end with the ending of the term “Pakistani” as we will always remain British and Pakistani, no matter how much we’re often made to choose one aspect of us, as we appreciate and value each bit of ourselves and our multi-faceted dentitions. The fact that it is written in Urdu (which is the national language of Pakistan, although there are several regional languages spoken too) and English script too further highlights this, as more often than not, we are able to not only read and write in both of these languages ( and several others) with relative ease but also to be able to appreciate the insightful linguistic advantages that comes with that too. •The backdrop is that of Pakistan’s national flower - the Jasmine Flower - as it is a flower which is seen as the perfect embodiment of what Pakistan was to stand for upon it’s creation - a land of purity, harmony and land free of any prejudice regardless of caste, creed or religion• I hope this page can allow for a community of positive and like-minded individuals to contribute to not only taking back ownership of a term that may often be used in a manner that dismisses our experiences completely, but to also enable us to wear our unique identities with a sense of pride and celebration 🇵🇰💚•
